Re: Princeton postgame - 16 years ago
Doug '08To Princeton’s credit, they played a solid game and made few mistakes. That being said, they will almost certainly be in the bottom halfMaybe not. The Tigers shut out Colgate 2-0 Saturday. They have improved: they played much better defense than Quinnipiac.by Trotsky - Hockey

jtwcornell91Okay, when was the last time before last night that *anybody* scored on a penalty shot at Lynah? Joe Nieuwendyk, 2/27/87, vs Steve Duncan of RPI. It was part of a hat trick in Joe's penultimate game (he scored a hat trick the next night, too), and by weird coincidence I have it on cassette tape. Carvel's against Duffus was at Appleton.by Trotsky - Hockey

Chris '03Do we really need roll calls for home games?Considering that many alums come to meet their alum friends also into town, yeah, we do.by Trotsky - Hockey

RitaFrom my brief reading, it sounds like they are very sentimental people. "Guns N Hoses"? Edit: Oh, police and firemen. I get it.by Trotsky - Hockey

sah67This may not be the same team that outworked us, and then swept us at Lynah last March, but then again, neither are we Part one is good. Farewell, Mr. Cashman. Part two is even better. Last year in the QF the Red played like they already had tee times. The System takes time to swallow, python-like, the freshmen, but supposedly this year all the returning players are committed to thatby Trotsky - Hockey

Re: Cornell-RIT postgame - 16 years ago
KeithKYou find out who the real fans are when the team isn't very good. The real fans will come and cheer anyway. Not that I would ever look forward to this but I suspect it's salutary to have a couple lean years from time to time to clear out some of the band wagoners. With a pro team this is true. Not so much with college, though, since the undergrads are the heart of the crowd, and they oby Trotsky - Hockey
Re: From the stands - 16 years ago
The other thing about having designated shooters is that it only works effectively if you've got other guys darting to the net to pick up a pass slid inside or jump on the rebound. It's like needing the running game to set up the long strike -- you need agile guys stretching and collapsing the defense. Otherwise, they can just form a fence and channel the shooter to the lane where the goalie haby Trotsky - Hockey
Re: Cornell-RIT postgame - 16 years ago
Scersk '97count on that idiot, puritan wrestler not to understand Lynah at all.Maybe, but it gets pretty disheartening when the only sound you hear from the crowd between band numbers is "SUCKS!" If we eliminated that cheer completely from the repertoir, then at least people might rack their brains a little to think of something, I dunno, original? Funny? The crowd is like the teamby Trotsky - Hockey

Re: Cornell 0 RIT 2 (3rd Period) - 16 years ago
It's a big win for their program. I can understand their excitement. They were D-3 just a couple years ago, and I don't think they've ever beaten an NC D-1 opponent.by Trotsky - Hockey

Some intermission reading for those (like me) who hadn't seen this: By Brandon Thomas The Ithaca Journal ITHACA - Meet the odd couple. And not entirely because they're goalies, which - as most hockey players will attest - are a completely different breed. Goalies Troy Davenport and Ben Scrivens are reunited as the Cornell hockey team's last line of defense as the Big Red kicks off iby Trotsky - Hockey

RitaPS.. Trotsky.. what happend to the "cat" avatars? That was Archie (another of our worryingly high number of cats). He may make a comeback later this season. What I really need is a Trotsky avatar. Edit: there.by Trotsky - Hockey

RitaColin Greening is gone with a 5 minute major. Not too clear on the Cornell audio what the call was for (or I may have missed it). They said 5+10.by Trotsky - Hockey

RitaYeah Rich! We probably should work on developing our "pool" of thread starters. My record wasn't very good last year, so I should be way down on the depth chart. I was very poor last year and had the 0-0 game this year. Whoever ran the Ottawa game had a good audition.by Trotsky - Hockey

Re: Nash could return as early as November - 16 years ago
Jim HylaWell said.Yep. There's no reason to rush Brendon back into the lineup. This isn't an NCAA challenger team, so the November and December games aren't make or break. This is a team that needs to digest its young talent and adapt to its new (old) style of play, improve every month, and set its sights on February and March.by Trotsky - Hockey
