Re: Alumni in the Pros - October 2007 - 16 years ago
The arguments about fighting come down to a matter of taste. John knows and likes the European style so he views fighting as barbaric; I know and like the WHL style so I view fighting as an appropriate enforcement strategy. Fighting can get out of hand. Most fighting injuries probably happen during line brawls when guys fall, get their knees twisted, get sucker-pucnhed, get cut by an errantby Trotsky - Hockey

evilnaturedrobotIt seems to me that Dilligaf does know his hockey and he does have some sort of inside contact to the program, he's been right enough that I have to conclude this. It just seems that he has something personal with Mike and he lets this color his views, sometimes to the point of ridiculousness. It's not like he's the first poster who had a low signal to noise ratio. Even RichS mby Trotsky - Hockey

ninian '72Thanks for the heads-up. I talked to them today, and they said it would be tight, but there should be no problems buying tickets. I'm more comfortable with getting there early. Kickoff is at 2 pm. I assume we'll be there around 1:30.by Trotsky - Other Sports
Re: Wayne State Men's Hockey To Fold After 2007-08 - 16 years ago
KeithKFor that matter, should we feel bad about Schafer's non-reciprocity towards lesser schools? No. KeithKit's doubtful that games against Cornell would bring in that many fans/dollars and I'd be surprised if this decision wasn't about dollars. Yes.by Trotsky - Hockey
Football at Yale - 16 years ago
Tough first half, down 16-zip. No offense, except for a great last drive down to the Yale 20 which ended in a sack and an incompletion.by Trotsky - Other Sports
Re: Ticket Procedure Posted - 16 years ago
French RageSadly, through all this discussion, it would be easiest and make the most sense to just let people line up when they want to. I know that will never happen, but someone needs to chime in and say that at least once a week or so.And somebody needs to second it. But the odds (and benefit) of it happening are exactly the same as the odds that Collegetown Bagels will be magically transforby Trotsky - Hockey

metaezraI had no trouble getting the game in Internet Explorer through a 10mpbs wireless connection. No strobing or any other issues for the duration of the game, except for some programming issues during halftime. Not so much luck with Firefox.Hmm. I've been so weaned from IE I didn't event think to try it. Microsoft sucks -- except when it works.by Trotsky - Other Sports

BeeeejThe idea of a representative democracy running a multi-billion dollar Ivy League research university ...Hey, no argument. Four letters: "CCNY." The sanctimony of Cornell's flowers and kisses alumni ahem "development" campaign is no different than, say, that of a megachurch or a huge non-profit, and it has the important benefit that it can result in a better hockey progby Trotsky - Hockey
Re: Dartmouth also... - 16 years ago
So the basic model is: self-perpetuating elites with names like Olin and Noyes and a voting majority set policy, and a handful of trustees are elected by various factions of the Great Unwashed (alumni, faculty?!, students??!) to give the whole thing a democratic paint job. Cornell is special in being partly public, giving the governor a comfy place for a few cronies to nap. Shrug. From whatby Trotsky - Hockey

Al DeFlorioTrotskyAl DeFlorioHow did others find the webcast?I never got it to work. The live stats worked fine, but the video would not play. I reinstalled the latest Windows Media and did all the other obvious things, but got nothin'. Did you click on the "Bucknell" button listed under "2007?" The iBNsports staff was very responsive during the game. Can you get eitherby Trotsky - Other Sports

Re: If you thought Lynah was rough for visiting fans... - 16 years ago
Assistant District Attorney Scott Rowland said the rivalry will have no bearing on the way the case is prosecuted. "It appears that it played a part in the fight," he said, "but that won't play any more of a role in our handling of the case than would a fight over a girl or a car or a song on the jukebox." Not to mention Albany in 2002 and 2006. Oh wait. Harvard's been the second-most successful team in the conference during the reign of The Stout One. I'd rather accentuate how INCREDIBLY well we've done than make specious statements about an opponent. The Crimson have been a fine team. We've just been better.by Trotsky - Hockey

bothmanNash was a great get for Cornell, but other than him, I don't see Cornell going out and beating the upper echelon teams for talent. The guys you mention may very well evolve into great players (Sam Paolini etc) and I will have to eat crow. But, let's be honest, on paper, by no means are these players highly coveted by the top teams in college hockey. That should tell you something rigby Trotsky - Hockey

pfibigerIt seems like we'll be pretty jammed up on defense next year, bringing in Keir Ross, Sean Whitney, and now Birch. I imagine one of them (Whitney?) will defer to '09. Rich SNot sure were you get that "scent of urine" thing from but it would have been more appropriately applied to Bruins' fans at the old Boston Garden or currently to the Nassau Coliseum. We would also have accepted "the Gallery Gods" for the scent of urine. Everybody knows there is neither piss nor vinegar at Uniondale, because we have no fans.by Trotsky - Hockey
