Re: Cornell 2 Quinnipiac 1 (Postgame Thread) - 15 years ago
I'm sorry but I've never heard the crowd join in the song unless it's sort of humming along on their way out of the rink. Of course my knowledge only goes back to '03, but most people think of that as a nice background sound while walking of of the rink.by CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: ECAC Expansion is a horrible idea - 15 years ago
Scersk '97I'm right with Jim on this one. We play Niagara every year on our own accord, so, for completely selfish reasons, why not make them part of the conference schedule? And then there's this misconception: CUontheslopesI'm sorry but I do not understand why people are so eager to add Niagara to the ECAC. All they'd do is weaken our already weak SOS. Niagara and RIT just are not good hby CUontheslopes - Hockey
ECAC Expansion is a horrible idea - 15 years ago
I'm sorry but I do not understand why people are so eager to add Niagara to the ECAC. All they'd do is weaken our already weak SOS. Niagara and RIT just are not good hockey programs over the long haul in DI. I think RIT has a chance to be competitive, but we need fewer conference games, not more. We can't get any OOC games because we have so many in conference games which fill us up to near our lby CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Syracuse Article on Riley Nash - 15 years ago
This portion is very interesting: "It's a tough answer," Nash said. "I'm not going to go just when they (the Oilers) ask me to go. I don't feel I need to go and bounce around in the minors for a few years. Cornell is a nice place to be." This seems in line with what I heard from an inside source that told me that Riley would most likely leave when his brother graduated (by CUontheslopes - Hockey
11 blocks in the 3rd period - 15 years ago
Just FYI, the article on cornellbigred.com says 11 blocked shots in the third period...pretty impressive.by CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Are we that good? (Cornell after 10 games) - 15 years ago
I have to agree with all the prior comments that this team is rather reminiscent of 04-05. Unlike the last few years where it seems like they're going to somehow find a way to lose...this year it just feels like they're going to win and they know it. That said, I'll voice my usual critique of most Cornell teams - We need to score more goals when we dominate the play like we did in the first peby CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Greening goal - 15 years ago
Definitely looked like the puck deflected in off something - very well could've been Greening's shoulder. It had that little wobble you oftensee when the puck hits something trafficwise in front.by CUontheslopes - Hockey
Cornell 2 UND 1 Postgame - 15 years ago
I thought Cornell looked really really good tonight. The offense generated a lot of chances 5x5, though I'd have loved to see us hammer in a goal. Greening continues to look like an absolute beast out there. R. Nash looked good as did both Kennedys. I thought Whitney looked like he belonged on the ice - had a really nice poke check through the legs of a UND forward. Scrivens looks alright - haby CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2 North Dakota 4 (3rd) - 15 years ago
B. Nash was the problem with that goal my God...awfulby CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2 North Dakota 3 (end 2nd) - 15 years ago
Brendan Nash is simply awful - terrible turnover leads to an easy UND goalby CUontheslopes - Hockey

Re: Cornell to play two @ North Dakota - 15 years ago
Al DeFlorioNice that The Ralph is, like Lynah, 200x85...unlike many WCHA rinks. I agree - it's a good thing for us. Personally, I don't understand how the NCAA allows it. They don't allow schools to play football on a lacrosse field or a Canadian football field. Even if they allow it for the regular season, they certainly shouldn't for the playoffs. I always thought that was very very unfair.by CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Dartmouth Post-game - 15 years ago
BMacWhen was the last time we saw our guys deliver those sorts of hits? Greening had a humongous open ice hit in the first, and Ross was absolutely pounding on guys. Not to belabor the point, but this was the first time I've seen Cornell look like the '04-'05 team since... 04-05. Huge defense, big hits, strong forecheck, great goalie who saw very few overall shots that came in flurries, and anby CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Dartmouth Post-game - 15 years ago
Ronald '09Some comments about the game: 1) Keir Ross is a tremendous blue-liner, and may just be our most reliable by the end of the season. He got injured late in the game, does anyone know if it was anything serious? 2) The forecheck looks especially strong and keeps the puck in the offensive zone. For that reason, I was encouraged that we used more dump and chase rather than carrying tby CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Harvard Post-game - 15 years ago
rediceCUontheslopes It's an absolute outrage how badly the Athletic Dept. has handled this situation. When I was an undergrad we had that streak of sellouts dating back to Alabama-Huntsville. I'm not necessarily singling out you, CUontheslopes. But, as a general comment, rather than blaming the Athletic Dept for the empty seats, people should make a concerted effort to bring a non-hockey faby CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Harvard Post-game - 15 years ago
TimVCUontheslopesAs for the controversial non-goal, I was sitting in E and had a great look at it - definitely didn't go in. It hit the inside of the crossbarand went straight down onto the outside of the line, but not over it. From where I was sitting it wasn't really even that close, only a tiny piece of the puck ever touched the line. Pretty hard, IMHO for the puck to hit the insideof the crby CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Harvard Post-game - 15 years ago
Yeah, I mean, as much as I wanted it to be a goal it just wasn't. It was one of those shots that hits the crossbar and goes straight down. I had a perfect angle from almost right on the goal line - it wasn't really as close as that pictures makes it look. Only a tiny piece of the puck ever touched the outside portion of the line and no portion of the puck ever went beyond the line.by CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Harvard Post-game - 15 years ago
As much as I wish it was a goal and I chanted goal, goal, goal, it definitely wasn't. I had a perfect angle in E just on the other side of the netting. It wasn't just me who saw it that way. My roommate did as well, as did two girls next to us who had never seen a hockey game and asked me "Is that a goal? Does it count because a piece of the puck touched the line or does all of the puck haveby CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Harvard Post-game - 15 years ago
I have to agree - we did a nice job last night controlling the game. I was most proud of our hustle and ability to win the battles along the walls. We were disciplined and showed a lot more offensive flair then I've seen in recent years. Once we got across the red line, our offense and passing looked great. On the other side of it...not so much. Brendan Nash continues to look like he has never sby CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Colgate's Exessively Dirty Playing - 15 years ago
No problem. As I said, I found it appalling - the Colgate player went headhunting...on an injured player - simply despicable and reprehensible in my book. He should've been ejected.by CUontheslopes - Hockey
Too bad someone didn't muzzle the Colgate band at Lynah - 15 years ago
The cheers of Freeeeeeeeeeeee Willy and Shave Your Armpits raining down from the student sections brought back memories of the infamous "Fat Conductor" cheer against Colgate several years back. Also, nice going crowd on the "You suck, Cox" cheer. Well done.by CUontheslopes - Hockey
Section F sat too... - 15 years ago
Unfortunately, being a law student and having literally THE last line number in the grad student line, led to my assigned tickets are in F, the first time I haven't had seats in B or D ever out of 6 tries. Now, of course this annoyed the hell of me, though I must say I chose F instead of G for one reason, because I knew G was a seated section and I really did not want to sit. However, last nightby CUontheslopes - Hockey
Colgate's Exessively Dirty Playing - 15 years ago
The hit that led to the 5x3 interference penalty was absolutely one of the dirtiest plays I've seen in 6 straight years of watching Cornell hockey. We had a player (Barlow I believe) who was injured and limping to the bench and the Colgate player just lit him up. It was interference, but it should've also been an unsportsmanlike or a game misconduct. It was absolutely ridiculous - laying out a guby CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Colgate 2 at Cornell 2 post-game thread - 15 years ago
Ties in general are rather unsatisfying. Some ties are good ties, some ties are bad ties. It's hard to decide what this one is. Overall, I'd have to say it's a good tie being down 2 goals w/6 and change left in the 3rd, but wow...we should've put that away with a 5 minute PP. Overall, I thought we could not have played much worse. I counted at least 6 horrible sloppy turn overs in our own endby CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Guest Editorial in Today's Sun - 16 years ago
great article - I think that echoes the sentiment of a lot of us alums/students out there. I would've called for Andy's Noel's head...but that's just a personal thing. I think the guy does an awful job. It's amazing we've had the recent success across the board that we've had considering the handicaps he puts on our programs in comparison to some of the other Ivies.by CUontheslopes - Hockey

Re: Alumni in the Pros - March 2008 - Murray updated - 16 years ago
I hadn't realized that but that makes the commentary make more sense since his co-commentator remarked that he "figured you couldn't resist getting Cornell in there" or something to that effect. Either way - nice plug. Murray got a few good hits in there in the fight too, but not many blows exchanged.by CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - March 2008 - Murray updated - 16 years ago
Murray lays out a Coyote at center ice in an attempt to contain a breakout - leads to a breakaway. Murray then fights the guy he hit. Cornell mentioned quite nicely for a few sentences about their "fine hockey tradition."by CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - March 2008 - Murray - 16 years ago
Murray in action tonight against the Coyotes. Just got hung out to dry on a 2-1 and was unable to break it up (though he didn't make a very spirited effort he was positionally sound). He's still first on the team at +20 at the beginning of the night. Broadcasters gave NCAA hockey a nice plug, listing all the NCAA products playing for the Coyotes.by CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Season Post-Mortem - 16 years ago
ithacatCUontheslopesI'm 100% displeased with our switch towards being smaller. I think Schafer acted rashly in changing the team's style. It was is if he said - these teams get me to an NCAA Quarterfinal, but no farther. Now we're stuck with small teams who can't even make the NCAA's. Hopefully, we can get some more big guys and return to being the Red Army team we were in years past. I've beenby CUontheslopes - Hockey
