Re: 2011-12 student season tickets - 12 years ago
That's how it was when I was an undergrad. They moved to one ticket per student when demand was at its peak. Now they're having trouble selling out. I think the theory is that it's better to give 2 tickets to 750-ish motivated fans who will make sure those tickets get used. I always enjoyed having two tickets and being able to bring someone.by CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: 2011-12 student season tickets - 12 years ago
It's a shame that student interest in the team has waned to the point where a line is no longer necessary. In part, I think it's attributable to some down teams in the last few years (by our lofty standards), but probably due in larger part to the success of the basketball program. It's no longer a one-sport town. My freshman year was the fall of '03 and I vividly remember the line for hockeyby CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Schoellkopf Field to get new video scoreboard - 12 years ago
Hey - I'm very pleased to have a replay board. Sneeze and miss a goal in lacrosse and you have no idea what happened. Over the last few years, the school has done a great job with Schoellkopf: new addition to the fieldhouse, new turf, new video board. It's a great place to see a game. Now if only we had something to cheer about on the football side of things. It kills me to see such a huge stadiuby CUontheslopes - Other Sports
Re: Nice motivational story on Cornell QB Jeff Mathews - 12 years ago
Wait - we got a QB transfer from Cal, as in UC Berkely? Who knew...UNH isn't too bad either, but a transfer from Cal could be a difference maker in the Ivy League for sure.by CUontheslopes - Other Sports

ithacat Coach DeLuca might be interested in this guy: TE Ben Green – 6-7/245 — Belvedere, Calif. (Phillips Academy) An all-league selection at tight end and defensive end, Green led his Brentwood School team to a league title and a spot in the CIF Southern section finals in 2007. He went on for a postgraduate season playing at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. playing both ways. He hauled inby CUontheslopes - Other Sports
Re: NCAA Lacrosse Quarterfinals vs UVA - why so quiet? - 12 years ago
Swampy billhoward The forum is taking this loss pretty stoically. Because it's lacrosse not hockey? Because Virginia plain-out whupped us and we can't think of enough if-onlys to make up a four-goal margin? And the heart of the team returns in 2012, so there always is next year. In the meantime, we're likely to have one of the lowest-rated incoming classes (proving only the value of those lists)by CUontheslopes - Other Sports

Getting back to hockey from the sideshow above... Ryan O'Byrne notched an assist last night in Colorado's game against Chicago. He's 20th in the NHL in +/- at +11 and has been logging over 20 mins of ice time a night. Sounds like he's found a good fit in Colorado, which was desperate for defensemen when it picked him up from Montreal.by CUontheslopes - Hockey

Jacob '06 CUontheslopes Kyle Rose CUontheslopes A sad day. Its becoming increasingly clear that if we want to compete on a national level in athletics, the athletic dept. is going to have to increase the endowments for some key coaching positions, e.g. basketball and lacrosse so we don't just become a coaching conduit for other schools. It's incredibly frustrating to lose coaches to other schoolsby CUontheslopes - Other Sports

Re: DeLuca takes over lacrosse - 13 years ago
A lot of people have credited our strong defensive efforts over the years to DeLuca. For me, Tambroni's success as a coach was his ability to fill holes every year with guys who we'd never heard of who were waiting in the wings, an ability to convert players to different positions, and find hidden gems from non-hotbed areas. As an in-game coach, I was never a huge fan of his style and inability tby CUontheslopes - Other Sports

Re: Cornell vs. Syracuse Lax - 14 years ago
As far as I'm concerned there is no bigger enemy on my list now that Syracuse. After these lacrosse games and 50+ years straight of losing to them in basketball it's starting to get old. I'm not sure what we need to do, but wow do I hate them. I hate Harvard and Princeton and the rest of the Ivy League, but I REALLY hate Syracuse. After having lived in Ithaca for 7 years, perhaps it's how obnoxioby CUontheslopes - Other Sports

semsox phillysportsfan I just dont see how one good year out of two years with a CBI appearance gets a coach a PAC10 job coming from an Ivy league school unless the coach happens to be related to the president or there is some other connection Perhaps some other connection you should be referring to is his 6 years as an assistant at Northwestern. Certainly assistants have a very large hand inby CUontheslopes - Other Sports
Re: Now that our season is over... - 14 years ago
mnagowski There's no "immorality" associated with making an honest living. You believe that Wall Street has been 'honest' over the last decade? If individuals haven't operated within the confines of the law, convict them and send them to jail, but most 22 year olds right out of college? Yes, I think they're making an honest living as are the majority of people working on Wall Streetby CUontheslopes - Other Sports
Re: Now that our season is over... - 14 years ago
Yes, let's completely blame these kids with student loans to pay off because they didn't get athletic scholarships for becoming doctors, lawyers and bankers to pay off their loans. Maybe if the students got a balanced perspective from the faculty more students might be less dismissive of public service. Ithaca and Cornell seem to be tolerant of everything under the sun except genuine academic divby CUontheslopes - Other Sports
Re: Odds that Donahue stays? - 14 years ago
Not sure, but seeing coach with his young son yesterday makes me think that he might not be so quick to uproot. I played golf with him this fall at the RTJGC (good luck as a single on the first tee) and he talked quite a bit about how much he and his family liked Ithaca. That's certainly not dispositive, but it doesn't hurt.by CUontheslopes - Other Sports
Re: Basketball Selection Show - 14 years ago
Jordan 04 Rita Even though a 96 field team would likely mean another IVY League team would get an invite, Would it, though? While the chances would certainly increase in a strong year, "likely" seems to be pushing it. I don't know the historical RPI's for the non-champions, however. I think you just need to look to see how many NIT bids Ivies have gotten. (65+32 = 97, so pretty mucby CUontheslopes - Other Sports
Re: Harvard 0 at Cornell 3 Game 2 Postgame - 14 years ago
Ronald '09 CUontheslopes - Has anyone noted that Greening has ZERO penalty minutes to date? That's an incredible stat and shows you just how dominant he is. He skates so hard and moves his feet so well that he's always in position. He played a GREAT game last night. Greening has 29 PIM this year ( ). Do you not remember his 5 minute major and game misconduct against Q earlier this year?by CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Harvard 0 at Cornell 3 Game 2 Postgame - 14 years ago
Not to switch gears from the discussion of the glass, but I thought that was one of the more complete games I've seen Cornell play in a long, long time. It was a night when the breaks didn't seem to be going our way. We hit a crossbar, had a bunch of shots go just wide, Richter played a solid game in net against us, but we pulled it out. Cornell was clearly the better team, but I've seen us dropby CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: 2011 NCAA lacrosse quarterfinal sites - 14 years ago
I know exactly how many (or few) have been played in New England. Ever think there was a reason? Also I'm not saying that any of those sites (Yale, Lehigh, etc.) submitted bids, merely that they would be more convenient locations. I also have no complaint with an occasional site being in New England, but I'm not a fan of how many times they're playing in Foxboro over the coming few years (3/5by CUontheslopes - Other Sports

Al DeFlorio CUontheslopes Horrible choices that are convenient only to people who live within 10 - 20 miles of the stadium. Getting from ANYWHERE to Hofstra is a pain (except if you're already on the island). Gilette Stadium is convenient only to those in Boston. The NCAA continues to blow it with its choice of sites. Re: Opinion Piece: A Little Perspective - 14 years ago
amerks127 CUontheslopes Very well said. I can't stand to read the hockey pieces in the Cornell Sun. No disrespect to the two kids who write it, but honestly, it comes across as a weekly whine about how Cornell has failed each week. I choose not to read it and I know a lot of other hockey fans who don't either because they can't stand the Chicken Little "the sky is falling" weekly rant.by CUontheslopes - Hockey

Cornell in the Olympics - 14 years ago
OK, technically not Cornell, but a friendly face, ECAC ref Peter Feola, just made a horrible penalty call during the Russia/Czech Rep. game and was ripped apart by the commentators. Bad call led to the first Russian goal. Glad to see we're not the only ones getting screwed by bad ECAC refereeing.by CUontheslopes - Hockey

ScrewBU CUontheslopes Germ Ummm....not being melodramtic, being realistic. Pairwise # 16 puts us right on the bubble. Yeah, sure, if we don't lose one of the next two, win our first series, AND win one in Albany we have an outside chance. Last year wasn't a lock until we pulled out the Princeton game. Too bad we've been backed into a corner (again) such that we have to at least make the semisby CUontheslopes - Hockey
