Re: Men's Soccer 2022 - 1 year ago
Swampy Iceberg 1-1 tie to Yale earlier with Penn beating Columbia. I guess Cornell would have to beat said Columbia team next week and hope Penn loses at Princeton to win the league? Seems unlikely. I wasn’t impressed by Princeton. But then, they could always park the bus and pull something out. Assuming we beat a pretty bad Columbia team, are we a safe bet to make the ncaa’s even if Princetoby CU2007 - Other Sports
Re: ECAC Playoff Changes - 1 year ago
Trotsky CU2007 upprdeck is this really a good thing and why the change? I would say it is somewhat of a good thing if you are perennially in the top 4 (Cornell) because the chance of an upset in the 5-12 series is greater in a one game playoff than a best of three, thus theoretically increasing your chances of getting a weaker opponent in the quarters. Maybe?I'd say that is offset by the fact tby CU2007 - Hockey

BearLover Iceberg It's only been 4 games but I guess anemic offense will be the theme of this year? Looks very similar to last year’s offense—little talent, bad execution. Benching Donaldson and Bancroft, two of the higher skill guys, was a questionable choice given the team couldn’t set up anything on any of their ample man-up chances. Are Donaldson and Bancroft healthy?by CU2007 - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Princeton - 1 year ago
Quick look shows only 2 ECAC teams in the top 30 of the RPI/Pairwise. I assume this means the league did not do well in the early, heavy non-conference portion of the schedule. Could be another tough year for ECAC at large tourney bids? Disclaimer: I know there is still a lot of hockey to be played.by CU2007 - Hockey
Re: Cornell field hockey - 1 year ago
Al DeFlorio dbilmes This might be the first post in eLynah history about field hockey, but the Cornell field hockey team deserves a shoutout for its 2-0 victory Sunday over No. 4 Louisville. It was the highest ranked team Cornell has ever defeated. Cornell will try to pull off another upset this weekend against No. 15 Harvard. Harvard up 1-0 in the third outshooting Cornell 15-1. What?! upprdeck My take from the last common council meeting is that there will never be a comeback for Joes now thats is planned to be knocked down for yet another set of appts.. I miss the Italian places around town from 20 or so years ago. Joes, Napolis, The Coddington, Lucatellis etc.. Is there any good Italian in town any more? Gola is your best best, IMO. scoop85 The official who called the laughable PI penalty on our guy who had inside position and was looking at the ball should never be allowed to officiate another college football game. It would have been disgraceful if that play cost us. Didn’t see any of the game today but there were absolutely terrible PI calls last week too.by CU2007 - Other Sports

dbilmes Cornell scored three second-half goals to rally for a 3-1 win Tuesday night over Binghamton in its final non-league game, before closing the season with four Ivy games. If Cornell wins out (a difficult task), it has to hope that someone else knocks off Penn for Cornell to have a chance at the title. According to Coach Smith, Cornell played last night without six injured starters. Next gamby CU2007 - Other Sports

toddlose Then these Canadian teams don’t get paid for this the way tiny schools get paid to get slaughtered by Alabama Football Really? The economics of college hockey aren’t the same as SEC football? Thank you for the enlightenment. Re: Cornell football 2022 at midpoint - 1 year ago
My HS team finds the worst teams in the entire state of Ohio, goes 4-0 non-league, gets demolished in all 5 league games, then proudly claims they went 4-5. Cornell seems to have tried a similar approach this year.by CU2007 - Other Sports

toddlose CU2007 Trotsky The Gee Gees (Garnet and Grey) were playing their third game in three nights and just off a 7-hour bus trip. I imagine they did not look and feel their best. Yikes. Do these Canadian teams get paid for this the way tiny schools get paid to get slaughtered by Alabama Football? Do they play in front of 98,000 fans when on the road? No?by CU2007 - Hockey

Seems like we actually have a good quarterback. To have a bad team when you have a good player at by far the most important position to me means we are probably just totally undermanned skill wise at most of other positions on the field.by CU2007 - Other Sports

dbilmes Trotsky jkahn Per the UCONN athletics blog, we may be playing UCONN at MSG this year. Boring but makes sense. UConn program is a program on the rise. Its new arena is scheduled to open in time for the upcoming season. There are a lot of UConn alums in NY, and of course it's not hard to get from Connecticut to New York City! billhoward An indoor stadium for game play needs to have a tall roof. The Dallas Cowboys stadium center screen hangs 90 feet above the field. I don't know what height is required to not affect 90% or 95% of long soccer kicks or long lacrosse clearing passes. In football, it's a do-ever in Dallas.
