Kyle Rose I read probably more than 5,000,000 news-ish words each year and listen to the audio edition of the Economist with regularity, and I did not know that Ottawa was the capital of Canada. I'm sure I have run across it—probably lots of times—but it's just not important enough to have stood out in anything I've read. Canada's government is rarely in the news, and when it is it's usually prby George64 - Hockey

I don't know if "decamped" is the right word. Seifert was fired after two seasons, I assuby George64 - Other Sports

Give My Regards ACM Swampy Dryden is not the answer. Especially if the question is "Who was Cornell's goalie on the 1970 undefeated national championship team?" Bob Rule! I almost forgot - we had two undefeated teams in 1970 and Bob Rule played on both, but he was a much better lacrosse goalie. Interestingly, his hockey save percentage (in three games, total 37 minutes) was onlyby George64 - Hockey

DFORD '94 This is why Ken Dryden is the best... Stanley Cup With Ken Dryden Thanks. Dryden exemplifies what college sports should be about, but rarely are. His description of the Domain Arena's ice cleaning apparatus reminded me of my introduction to NY Rangers hockey at the old (not the oldest) Madison Square Garden back in the late '50s. Al DeFlorio They could start by changing the rules on goalie pads so they'd look like this again: The NHL has reduced the height of goalie pads by about two inches for the 2013-14 season. Only about six more to go.by George64 - Hockey

Re: The intern behind Sum Ting Wong et al. - 10 years ago
Jeff Hopkins '82 Part of me wants to deny any relationship between him and Cornell. Another part of me wants to shake his hand for a great prank. The article only says that Fields-Lefkovic was the intern who answered the call from KTVU and confirmed the names. As dumb as this was, the real dunderheads were the people at KTVU who passed on the bogus names and read them on air. As Steven Colby George64 - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: Cornell "Suicide School" NPR Story - 11 years ago
Kyle Rose I hope this means the suicide barriers on that bridge are coming down, too: that view has been ruined for at least as long as I have been affiliated with Cornell. Anyone know when those barriers went up? The restoration of that view would be magical. Ken Dryden's suggestion for making hockey better - 11 years ago
Al DeFlorio There was a time when a goalie looked like a human, with legs, arms, and a recognizably human form. A save required moving a glove, a stick, a blocker, or a leg. No more. Today a goalie is so padded he just stands in the way. A snapped glove save causes wonderment in an announcer. Compare any photo of Dryden in a Cornell or Montreal uniform with any goalie today. No wonderby George64 - Hockey

Jim Hyla billhoward When the scoreboard clock had no tenths, Bill Russell could speak at length about whether at 0:01 and the Celtics down by one, was that a long or short one second left. Then, only, did I care about tenths on the shot clock. Any set of numbers in the hands of Barry Melrose is like having a loaded .22 pistol to a five-year-old. TimV Jim Hyla But that was back when men were men. Wow. Some of those brawls with the Fergusons were right out of Slap Shot. And you didn't get a game misconduct, you got five for fighting then came right back on the ice to find the guy again. Back in the day, Cornell held intramural boxing championships and Doug Ferguson competed at least once. As I recall, he lost the bout that I saw.by George64 - Hockey
