Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - Tewaarton - 8 days ago
billhoward Five finalists for the men's and women's Tewaaraton Trophy. A couple weeks ago there was discussion that Notre Dame's Pat Kavanagh and Cornell's seemed the front-runners. The list of finalists out May 9 has Kavanagh but not Kirst. Have to think, almost getting shutout against Penn, really hurt. He’ll be back next year, and that a hopefully healthy Mike Long and a more mature Ryanby George64 - Other Sports

Trotsky It's the Ivies. None of us have had a decent football team since the 60s. To me, decent means being competitive in the Ivy and Patriot Leagues. A low bar, to be sure.by George64 - Other Sports
Re: Wells College 1868-2024 - 14 days ago
In addition to proximity, there’s another connection between Wells College and Cornell. As the story goes, Ezra wanted Henry Wells (of Wells Fargo, and later American Express fame) to locate and endow his proposed women’s college at Cornell. Wells declined, as he wanted Wells to be a separate and distinct entity in his hometown of Aurora. Not deterred, Ezra and Andrew White then convinced Ithaby George64 - John Spencer Is Dead

George64 billhoward If Cornell is a safe backup alternative for a Columbia or Penn also-admitted candidate, Cornell might pick up some more students than it expects. Given recent events, I wonder if Columbia’s early decision admits will be able to get out of their commitments. From my vantage point 85 miles away, Cornell seems relatively tranquil. jtwcornell91 David Harding On a lighter note, I wonder what modifications we'll see (hear) in "The Song of the Classes". "I used to date girls from Elmira and Wells ... but I got tired of driving down to Purchase every weekend." Re: Bye-bye Ben - 23 days ago
Nice comments from former players: “Ben is a phenomenal coach and an even better person. His attention to detail and enthusiastic personality are infectious, and helped establish a winning culture during my time with him at Cornell. He genuinely cares for his players, staff and community, and I know he’ll continue to positively impact their lives at Princeton, just as he has mine.” — Morganby George64 - Hockey
Re: Cornell admissions - 28 days ago
chimpfood Do we know what proportion of the class is from early decision? It seems like a lot of colleges are really leaning into that to improve their yield which then lowers regular acceptance rates, causes students to apply to more colleges regular decision, and makes schools admit even more students early. upprdeck Denver was lucky to win the first 3 games and then played a really nice final game to win it all. Interestingly, Denver played an indirect, but significant role, in Cornell’s emergence as a hockey power. Ned Harkness was good friends with Murray Armstrong, the highly successful coach at Denver from 1956-77 (460-215-31), with five NCAA Championships. Armstrong had scouted twin broby George64 - Hockey

billhoward The only one that was worth a smile was after Ryan Goldstein tied the game: "Not only is he skinny as a chimney sweep, but he's got the hands of a mohel." That line reminded me of one of the truly great SNL ad parodies. The actual ad extolled the smooth ride of a Lincoln by showing a diamond cutter practicing his craft in the backseat. The SNL takeoff substituted a mohelby George64 - Other Sports

This from Tyler Nase — “The team scrimmaged against the Heavies this past Saturday. We raced 2*2k with each boat lining up against their heavyweight counterpart. Overall, the team performed well. The Varsity and JV won both pieces and the 3V and 4V won the first but lost the second. ugarte George64 My understanding of “red shirting” is that athletes matriculate, practice with their team for a year or two, but not play, but take some classes to ease their academic burden during their following four playing years. Hypothetically, could a non-Ivy athlete practice with his team for two years, but not compete, then play in his final two years, graduate on time, and then playby George64 - Hockey
