Re: huge LAX game today - 9 years ago
I will luckily be in attendance today. Virginia's D has actually played fairly well considering they're starting an entirely inexperienced close D (2 freshman and a senior walk-on). That said, that's where we have to attack them, as Virginia themselves have plenty of offensive weapons. Ultimately, I like our chances in this one and think we pull it out by a few.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell @ SU Lax 02/15/15 - 9 years ago
SU game is a rough way to open the season, and I don't have high hopes for the game, but I also don't feel that a loss will be particularly meaningful later in the season either. This team is loaded and should be poised for a deep run in May.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Basketball 2014-15 - 9 years ago
Al DeFlorio CAS Donahue had winning Ivy records his last 6 years at Cornell, going a combined 63-21. Courtney is currently 21-39 in the Ivies. As has been said several times in this thread, he was gifted three All-Ivy players for those last four years. Prior to that he was ordinary at best. Let's stop lionizing him. His first five years Donahue was 23-47 in the Ivies. Fairly or unfairly, conby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Men's Lacrosse 2015 - 9 years ago
First day of practice today, and 2 weeks until the opener vs. Syracuse. Starting to get pumped for what should be a very, very good season for the team.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Basketball 2014-15 - 9 years ago
Being as this is the final year on Courtney's contract, I think a lot of people hope this year is his last.by semsox - Other Sports

Wonder if Dean got injured at some point and was just battling through it. Very odd to see someone as dominant as he had been to just fall-off so dramatically.by semsox - Other Sports

Stewart in net tonight per Brandon Thomas. Hayden Stewart will make his third start in goal tonight. DU also switches it up, starting Tanner Jaillet.— Brandon Thomas (@BT_unassisted) December 6, 2014by semsox - Hockey
Re: Basketball 2014-15 - 9 years ago
I will be pretty surprised if we only manage 5 league wins. We'd be favored in all 4 games against Penn/Dartmouth. Call me crazy, but if everything breaks right, I could honestly see us competing for 2nd in the league.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Attendance at Lynah - 9 years ago
imafrshmn My first couple years going to games at Lynah ('05-'06, '06-'07), section A was full of the most inspired heckling I'd ever heard. That first season was Lynah's last one before taller glass panels went in, and the ability of fans to interact with the game directly, having players hear taunts and react to fans, was still in full effect. We were arguably a more hardcore bunch of fans thby semsox - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2 Clarkson 1 (ot) - 9 years ago
I'm not sure which is more unexpected. Getting a SHG in OT on a major, or the fact that our basketball team is going to win their opening game on the road. Good day for the Athletics Dept.by semsox - Hockey

Re: Cornell Men's Lacrosse 2015 - 9 years ago
I don't mind getting the Syracuse game out of the way, but you have to think that that's about the best way to put the Red in an uncompetitive position going into the game with Ivy practices starting so late compared to other teams. Going back to 2009, they've opened against either Hobart or Binghamton to start the season, and generally don't play their first ranked team until they have a gameby semsox - Other Sports

Re: Cornell lax 2014 post-mortem - 10 years ago
I have to think next year's team on paper will be stronger than this one. Our key losses are O'Neil (who has been truly unheralded for his do-it-all play the past two years), Freshour (who played tough, but took what felt like an enormous number of penalties by being overly aggressive), Paoletta (who came out of nowhere to have a very nice year this year), and Tesoriero (who numbers wise had an aby semsox - Other Sports

The sox part is indeed a Red Sox reference, though I confess I am not from the Boston area. Still became a fan before 2004 though, so there's that.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2014 - 10 years ago
The outcome of the Harvard/Yale game is the only remaining decider. A Yale W over Harvard creates a multiple tie at first where direct H2H no longer works as a tiebreaker. If Cornell loses to Princeton and Yale beats Harvard, Cornell/Harvard/Yale/Penn would all tie at 4-2, which Cornell presumably wins due to having a 2-1 record against the remainder, and then a H2H tiebreaker over Penn who wouldby semsox - Other Sports

Indeed. The field is set now, with some combination of Harvard/Penn/Yale/Cornell in the tournament.by semsox - Other Sports

Re: Let's talk about ILDN - 10 years ago
This is the frustration that comes with these broadcasts when they're executed poorly. The Cornell sports twitter mentioned that the power went out to the video scoreboard, which is where the live video feed is taken from (hence the ridiculous cut away's to players posing and twirling their sticks after goals rather than showing the ensuring faceoff, but I digress...). But this is entirely a probby semsox - Hockey

Cressler leaving the program. Hopefully this is the kind of move it takes to get Andy off his ass and make the move that should be made. I'm disgustedby semsox - Other Sports

Excited for this season. Doesn't have the pressure that last year did. Expect a good effort and a W in the opener.by semsox - Other Sports

At the very least Duke's win should seal the Tewaaraton for Rob. Small consolation for what I'm sure was a fairly emotional weekend for him and the rest of the team.by semsox - Other Sports
