Re: FF Semi vs. Duke - 10 years ago
I will be making the trek up to Philly for this. I feel we are the best team in the country. I felt the same way when we faced Duke in a semi-final game in 2007. Hoping for a different result this time around.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell-Maryland NCAA lax 2013 - 11 years ago
I disagree with the assessment that most people are going Cornell. Almost every single prognostication I've seen has this a one-goal game, and most have Maryland coming out on top. I'll be at the game, and while certainly not going in expecting a win, if this team is going to be the one left standing on Memorial Day (which they certainly are capable of), they're going to have to beat the best aloby semsox - Other Sports

Re: Lax 2014 - who to chop to fix SOS - 11 years ago
I have several issues with this. First, I do not mind some of these weaker scheduled games with Upstate opponents. It throws a boon to some of these lesser programs who otherwise would not get to play opponents of Cornell's caliber (for the record both Syracuse and Albany also played several of these schools, also doing their part as the lacrosse powers in the region). Second, funny how easy it iby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse polls 2013 - 11 years ago
I believe the Laxpower rankings take into account scoring margins and such. I don't think it's that much of a stretch, as Cornell has one of the most efficient offenses and defenses in the country. All of the advanced lacrosse metrics rank Cornell very high; it just seems some of the human pollsters are not seeing it to the same extent. If the numbers keep where they are, the team will begin turnby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse polls 2013 - 4/22 - Cornell 6/4 - 11 years ago
No chance we play Penn State with Tambroni there. Additionally, the W over Virginia in most years is definitely one to hang your hat on, and I would have guessed a stronger year out of Colgate with Baum coming back.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell @ Brown Lax - 11 years ago
Apparently the same thing happened last year, but yes, a large upset nonetheless.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell-Bucknell Lacrosse - 11 years ago
Mock did not play at all during the game. I read on Laxpower (though do not quite remember it myself) that he took a very large hit near the end of the Yale game. Hopefully nothing too serious and he is back sooner than laterby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell-Bucknell Lacrosse - 11 years ago
I think ithacat is underselling Bucknell. "Only beaten one team with a winning record" couldn't even be used to describe Hopkins this year, and certainly does not capture the whole story with a very good Bucknell team. I would say this loss is only stunning if you had unreal expectations for the Big Red this year. This Cornell team (unlike some others it has been compared to in thisby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Quarterfinals at Q - 11 years ago
FWIW, the Quinnipiac thread on USCHO mentioned that the games on both Friday and Saturday were already either sold out or SRO, likely excluding whatever allotment Cornell gets.by semsox - Hockey

Re: General 2012-13 Wrestling thread - 11 years ago
Surprised no mention of the Southern Scuffle. Cornell placed 5th, with the highlight obviously being the Dake-Taylor rematch, which Dake won (semi-controversially?). I'd be curious what some people who are more familiar with wrestling than I am thought of the supposed controversial calls.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse 2013 pre-season - 11 years ago
Wow, I did not see that Coach's pre-season poll. I mean, I suppose you could argue that that is where we should be based solely on last year's performance. Of course looking solely at last year's performance is quite probably the most misleading thing you could do when considering how the team will perform this year. I don't see how we're not worthy of a top 5 pre-season rank, as that's whereby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Red Cast Really Sucks - 11 years ago
I didn't get a chance to see Saturday's game live, but the archive up on-line looks pretty much the same as Friday's game did. Was it much better quality than what this archive looks like or am I just losing it?by semsox - Hockey

Re: Lacrosse May 2012 - Colgate's Baum wins Tewaaraton - 11 years ago
Baum definitely won the award out of circumstance. If Duke won, pretty sure Constabile would have won it. Loyola did win, but Sawyer was overshadowed by Lusby in the post-season (had Lusby been the finalist instead of Sawyer, he would have won it). If UVA didn't win the title last year, Rob almost certainly would have won it. On the bright side, hopefully Rob will have another shot at it neby semsox - Other Sports

Re: Lacrosse-Rob Pannell Status - 11 years ago
Swampy The BIG issue is the Ivy League. I think the league would be utterly stupid to stand in Pannell's way if he wants to play the extra year. What future athlete would choose an Ivy if Pannell becomes the poster boy for broken dreams due to Ivy rules? It's not as if he was some trumped up "medical" redshirt as a freshman who some coach schemed to have later, when he was bigger and stby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse May 2012 - 12 years ago
Johnny 5 But, the bigger question...the 500 pound gorilla...is, what happened to us? This year's Cornell team was expected to (maybe) take it all. Was it just the loss of RP? yesby semsox - Other Sports

Re: Lacrosse-Rob Pannell Status - 12 years ago
ESPN1160 had a podcast with Barry Leonard from this past Tuesday prior to the Syracuse game. They had a fairly lengthy discussion near the end regarding Rob's future, and as someone who spends alot of time with the team on the trips and stuff, Barry was fairly adamant that even Rob doesn't quite know what the rest of the season will entail. While his progression from the scooter to seemingly coby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse-Rob Pannell Status - 12 years ago
FWIW, A poster on laxpower (who also posts in-depth analysis of all the games) said he heard from a trusted source that Rob was about 4-8 weeks away as of the Denver game (3/20).by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse 2012 - Cornell 9 Denver 8 3/20 - 12 years ago
Awesome highlight video (among many!) of the Denver game provided by a Cornell Fan over on laxpower. The videos are up to 720p, and there's highlight videos from most of the biggest games over the past year or so. Highly, highly recommended.by semsox - Other Sports

Aaron M. Griffin Trotsky In keeping with the spirit of the thing. Keith Wright, co-captain of Harvard men's basketball team It’s not like I walk into a classroom and everyone starts clapping. Re: Lacrosse 2012 - Michigan lacrosse plays indoors - 12 years ago
I'm more worried this injury will keep him out longer than 6 weeks, and possibly the season. If that's a possibility, I have to imagine Rob has lots of scenarios going through his head right now, most of them not the best.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: cornell basketball at maryland, tickets from Cornell still available - 12 years ago
jtn27 I disagree. If Cornell had the exact same season Harvard has had this year we would be ranked the same as Harvard (which I think is not good enough to make the tournament as an at-large bid, considering the losses to Fordam, Penn, and Princeton). It's not like there is a pro-Harvard bias in college basketball circles that gives them an advantage, nor is there an anti-Cornell bias (there migby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Lax vs. Hobart - 12 years ago
Al DeFlorio semsox There actually is a break in the schedule following the Annual Tuesday Syracuse game (14th of April), but whether that game is 'worth playing' from our perspective at that time of the season is questionable.Hobart has games scheduled April 14 and 17 with Bellarmine and Syracuse. Whoops. In that case, I guess I would be surprised if we ended up playing this game this season.by semsox - Other Sports
