Really playing with a fire now. They know the regular season is on the line. Up 3 with just under 10 to go.by semsox - Other Sports

I think 'arrogance' is a strong word. Those seniors were getting up for the same practices, running the same drills, etc. for four years. It's not obvious to me that the competitive advantage in this single game isn't worth the sportsmanship and camaraderie advantage that builds over the course of the year and culminates in this acknowledgement of the contributions of these players.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 2 months ago
Given the way we blew away Princeton at Newman, not ready to write that game off yet. I also feel because it's so late in the season, it'll be easy to get up for it knowing the stakes. Even going back a few weeks to the @Yale game, there was still a lot of season left to play, so it didn't have the same urgency the Princeton game will hopefully have :::knocks on wood:::by semsox - Other Sports

Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - 2 months ago
CU77 Is Cornell sometimes running 4 attackmen? Firth is technically playing midfield when he’s out there. As far as I know, he’d always been an attackman in HS, but it’s a clever way to get a high lacrosse IQ player out there and also solves the ‘issue’ of he and Kirst both being lefties.by semsox - Other Sports

May have been a false alarm. Apparently a snow squall moved through the area, and after clearing the field at half time during the women's game, it stayed clear. Very excited for the game, and hopefully they turn out better than the rest of the Ivy has thus far: Penn L to previously 0-2 Georgetown Dartmouth L to previously 0-2 Bucknell Brown L to now 2-0 Quinnipiacby semsox - Other Sports

The women's team is currently playing Cal at Schoellkopf, and from the looks of things, the field conditions are definitely going to play a role in the game.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - 2 months ago
Not that polls mean anything, but funny that this is the first unanimous preseason pick in the past several years, especially when Yale is also looking very strong coming into the year. On a more interesting note, some posters at LaxForum had some pretty detailed reporting from the Cornell/Albany scrimmage from this past weekend, and it sure sounds like this is going to be a fun, well-balancby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - 2 months ago
Trotsky Sounds like this could be a really fun season. Is there a dominant program out there that precludes any chance of a title, or are we in it? There's definitely a universe where we are playing on Memorial Day this year. Probably going to come down to overall health and offensive production from the midfield. rss77 Re: Got To Cornell-Marist scrimmage late. Cornell won 24-11. Thoughtby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - 2 months ago
Also, let the RPI/SOS madness begin. From a Cornell schedule perspective, Lehigh loses a close one to Rutgers, Penn State loses to (a not very good?) Colgate, Denver comes back and beats JHU in hilarious fashion, Ohio State also comes back to win against the Utes, and Syracuse crushes Vermont.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 2 months ago
This is a really likable team. I'm still not sure if they have the "it" factor that I thought the Wittman/Dale/Foote teams had even early on in that run, but definitely the best Cornell team since 2010.by semsox - Other Sports

Mr. Niss - I cannot believe Chris Manon didn't have an opportunity at a more prominent program. I can't recall us ever having a player with his athletic ability. Shonn Miller comes to mind, but that's about it. Love the way he playsby semsox - Other Sports
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 3 months ago
Went to the game today in person. I think it was around the 2nd half 12 minute timeout (had a ~10+ point lead) where I told my wife, "Any road win is good, and we'll be 3-0 in the Ivy". Needless to say, the rest of the game was not as enjoyable, but the point still stands. Good winby semsox - Other Sports

scoop85 Good to see Nazir get back in the flow of today’s game. I continue to be impressed with Okereke—how was this guy a walk on? And Beccles continues to improve and get more quality PT. The team has hardly played at home, and finally gets back to Newman next week in what shapes up to be an interesting game against Colgate. The Raiders have been up-and-down, and come off a bad loss yesterdby semsox - Other Sports

Re: Cornell lacrosse 2023 - 11 months ago
upprdeck the PSU loss is stopping us from being a top 4 seed right now. But we need to play at another level higher to go anywhere they want to really get. I think it's the other loss that's hurting us. No one's going to ding us too bad for losing to a Top 5-10 PSU team.by semsox - Other Sports

BearLover CU77 And per fanlax poster laxfan1313: Lombardi will be returning next year. Glad all these lax players are returning but I’m sad the hockey players couldn’t manage the same. Also bummer that Teat and Donville didn’t opt to extend their Cornell careers. Subtract Donville from Maryland and add him to Cornell last year and…well…you do the math… While admittedly knowing nothing aboutby semsox - Other Sports

Better that Yale made it. Even with their slow start, they have a top 10 RPI.by semsox - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse Princeton 4/29/23 noon - 12 months ago
Good guys win. Wouldn't have been so if Adler hadn't had a truly outrageous sequence to prevent a Princeton ground ball that was going to give them a numbers advantage with no defense really in placeby semsox - Other Sports

That was going to be a dispiriting possession for someone, and I'm glad it didn't end up being us. Kelleher taps it in off of a scramble after Princeton made several great defensive plays. 8-7 Cornellby semsox - Other Sports
