Re: What could have been. - 11 years ago
I don't believe Ron Francis was ever a serious recruit; more like wishful thinking. He came to campus with his friend, Mark Canduro, who did play hockey for Cornell. I don't think Francis played college hockey -- rather he started in the OHL.by dag14 - Hockey

Harvard leading Duke 10-9 with 6:25 remaining in the 4th. Edit: tied. Can't depend on Harvard to hold a 2 goal lead against Dukeby dag14 - Other Sports

Seibald was the best lax player in the country his senior year. That doesn't qualify him for this list?by dag14 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell vs. Siena Lax - 11 years ago
I just went through the roster and I am pretty sure that every single healthy player on the roster got in this game for Cornell since the bench emptying began at the start of the 4th quarter. So a little sloppiness can be expected.by dag14 - Other Sports

His Olympic coach or mentor encouraged him to go to 165 to face the challenge of wrestling Taylor who Dake acknowledged would be the best collegiate wrestler this year .by dag14 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell-Yale lax W12-10 - 11 years ago
Yale's faceoff guy was good before this game; the contest at the X was one of the keys to the game for both teams. I don't think our overall faceoff play was as bad as the statistics would indicate because we forced some turnovers after possession was established as a result of relentless wing play. Our guys do not quit and that made a big difference overall.by dag14 - Other Sports

Villalonga was injured during the match but it wasn't clear to me what the problem was. Since he advanced to NCAA regardless of outcome and since the team trophy was not in danger, I am guessing he forfeited to avoid a more serious injury. Stryker Lane was also injured during his last match and it looked like it involved his already-injured knee. To his credit, he did not forfeit; he continuby dag14 - Other Sports

Virginia beat Vermont by a score of 12-10. The Cavs apparently also did not have there best mid-week showing.by dag14 - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse 2012-2013 - 11 years ago
The Red were pretty sloppy through 3 quarters and AJ was not seeing the ball. Way too many sloppy passes and other unforced errors. Canisius played well, except for some dumb penalties. Much like our hockey team this season.by dag14 - Other Sports

Ah, these women are students? Playing Sat/Sun means they can miss fewer classes? Nah, there must be some other reason for the scheduleby dag14 - Hockey

I was behind the glass for those goals and didn't see them go in the net. Thanks for the link so I could finally see how we won the game!by dag14 - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs Toothpaste Lax - 11 years ago
It has been a long-standing Cornell tradition not to exceed 19 goals in a blowout out of respect for a beleaguered opponent. And I don't believe they will shoot on an open net unless the outcome of the game is still in doubt. Yesterday the Colgate goalie was out of the net red-dogging and Coach DeLuca saw a player ready to shoot at the wide-open net so he called a time out and the officials wavby dag14 - Other Sports

There are 10 players on the men's hockey roster [4 who are from NY] and 12 men's lacrosse players [9 who are from NY] in the Dyson School which is ranked in the top five in the country. Less than 10% of those applying for admission to Dyson last fall got in so that is an impressive statistic.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
I disagree; from my angle in section N, she hit the player squarely from behind in a clearly illegal check. I would not at all have characterized it as "skating pretty softly." My thought at the time was surprise -- I think it would have been called in a men's game. It was a stupid hit; she made no effort to avoid or minimize the contact and earned the first major penalty I can rememby dag14 - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Binghamton lacrosse 2/26/13 - 11 years ago
Fiore's goals against were all scored with Cornell a man down. The radio comments suggested an extremely porous special-teams defense. There is clearly work to be done there.by dag14 - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse 2012-2013 - 11 years ago
I was not at the game but watched on TV. I am not really sure how to evaluate AJ's game. He made some spectacular saves in the first half, when the game was close. He was a different goalie in the second half but I am not completely sure why. He was left hanging out to dry by his defense on a couple of those second half goals, but the difference in his stats can't be attributed only to his deby dag14 - Other Sports

Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
Official attendance was 2182. More importantly, there were a lot of raucous students in the crowd, as well as the band. At the end of the game, several players took a run and jumped against the glass at Section D where the wrestling team and friends had been leading the cheers throughout the game.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
The Harvard goalie has a GAA of 1.24 so scoring 3 goals is actually quite good....She made some phenomenal saves tonight. Laura Bellamy, Harvard's senior goaltender, leads the nation in saves percentage [.958] and GAA [.078]. Does anyone know why she did not play tonight?by dag14 - Hockey
Re: Disgruntled Goalie - 11 years ago
My son the goalie's comment -- "That is ridiculous." Who would ever want that guy on their team -- athletic or otherwise? Selfish, immature and short-sighted. If I were his parent, I would be cringing.... Think about the Matt Molsoun story that has been published in a lot of different places: A kid cut from a lot of teams growing up, ridiculed by other kids' parents as being a &qby dag14 - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Lacrosse 2013 pre-season - 11 years ago
Cody Bremner missed a lot of practice with the flu so he was probably not 100%. Coaches started subbing in the 2nd quarter, including taking RP out for all but man up situations so everyone got decent playing time. Four goalies played as well. My conclusion from watching is that there was a steep drop off from first string to subs in "game readiness" -- fewer dropped balls and missby dag14 - Other Sports
