Re: PU @ CU - 11 years ago
I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the guys have been playing with or through illness the last two weekends. Students have been missing a lot of class, but I don't have any hockey players in my classes this spring to confirm that the hockey team has fallen victim.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
Predictions in Ithaca are now one inch of snow by 6 p.m. with more presumably falling over night. But how much more and how quickly it accumulates remains an open question. So with any luck, those already in central NY can get to the men's game and home again without incident.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
Cornell sent out an email this morning noting that there is no current plan to close the university but that there always remains the possibility that things might change. It isn't snowing here yet and snow is predicted to start early afternoon. Local weather forecasters, unlike the Weather Channel, are currently predicting 3-5 inches locally today with more accumulations possible overnight.by dag14 - Hockey

Scrimmage against Albany moved to 1:00 p.m. on Sunday to minimize travel issues.by dag14 - Other Sports
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
I think the women are already on the road. They practiced this morning and I know they travel today. I am also fairly sure that the Q'pac men's team will arrive in Ithaca today. Most teams travel on Thursday since Ithaca is several hours away from every other team except Colgate. Even Union and RPI tend to come in the day before.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Aints - 11 years ago
As far as I know, the players don't read eLynah and if they do, they don't admit it. So what is posted here is for the posters, not the players. I just get tired of the whining sometimes. There are pleny of whining fans on syracuse.com and I hate it when eLynah posters sound like those idiots.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
Central New York is on the western edge of the predicted path of Nemo and likely west of the area where the normal snow/air movement from the west collides with the mass moving in from the south, which is why I said, "unless things change." That is why we have a winter storm watch in effect. Ithaca currently shows 2-4 inches expected Friday into Saturday. That is pretty normal for Febby dag14 - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
AT this point, all the attention is focused on New England and the coast. Unless things change, travel/weather in Ithaca should be no worse this weekend than is typical for February.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Aints - 11 years ago
Give him a break. He didn't intentionally jab a guy in the nuts during a faceoff at center ice in full view of 3 officials . He did what guys in the faceoff do to distract an opposing player...he just did it a little better/worse than most because his aim was especially accurate or his opponent was not also jabbing with his stick so Lowry was more easily able to make contact, etc. Yes, it suckby dag14 - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Clark - 11 years ago
I agree; if the team loses games, it probably isn't the goaltender's fault. And I don't think there is a statistic that can show otherwise because so many of the stats that appear to measure a goaltender's performance in fact measure team defense. Goals aganist average measures the goals scored when the goaltender was in net but does not differentiate between those that might have been his or hby dag14 - Hockey
Re: Lacrosse 2012-2013 - Albany scrimmage Sat 2/9 - 11 years ago
Even if it isn't a "real" game, it's worth it. If the roster numbers aren't accurate, there will be plenty of people who know who is who . The weather could be horrible, however....the main drawback to a lacrosse scrimmage in February.by dag14 - Other Sports
Re: Dunbars - 11 years ago
The problem is that Dunbar's is only crowded for 2-3 hours 2 or 3 nights a week. So it probably isn't that profitable. That is one of the reasons there are so few bars in Collegetown these days. Students drink where they live, and go out to Collegetown at 11 pm to be seen before hitting after-hours at a fraternity or apartment. And that is if you have ID to get into a bar. Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
Women beat a pesky RPI team 3-1. 2-0 after the first, an ugly second period where we survived only because RPI is chippy but otherwise inept. Stronger play in the third but all in all, not the best effort from our team. The RPI fans might argue about the officiating but my sense was that it was pretty bad both ways meaning inconsistent calls.by dag14 - Hockey

The free video feed from Yale, complete with video replays, was better than any paid RedCast product. From the broadcast announcers comments, I am guessing it is a student enterprise, at least in part.by dag14 - Hockey

Re: CU at RPI - 11 years ago
I remember the 1978-79 season getting off to a miserable start but I must confess I had to generate a report to get the details. Cornell was 3-3 going into the Dec/Jan break and went 18-5 down the stretch, including the miraculous come-from-behind victory over Providence where Randy Wilson missed the empty net to let us back in the game and send us to the ECAC tournament. In spite of the turnby dag14 - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
The video of the first goal failed to do it justice the camera angle is not wide enough. Barley-Maloney won the face off cleanly back to Campbell who was parked in the high slot. Her one-timer was a rocket down low and the goaltender never had a chance.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
We definitely deserved the win but against nationally ranked teams, we can't afford to make any mistakes because good teams will make you pay.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
Women beat Clarkson 3-1. Overall a good effort against an excellent team, although there were some periods of sloppy passing and poor judgment calls on the clear, etc. And we were lucky. Clarkson had a 3 on 0 and didn't score....I guess they don't practice that play.by dag14 - Hockey

Re: Sustainable library? - 11 years ago
This is standard practice in Mann Library; it happens once or twice a year. Cornell has classes in turf management and, if not entire sod farms, at east its own sod production so its not like the libraries are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to be a little imaginative. And as far as I know, no one waters the grass....it lasts through finals and then disappears.by dag14 - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: The swim test - 11 years ago
Transfer students are exempt from the Phys Ed requirement and swim test is part of the PE requirement so I assume that is the rationale. I agree it is somewhat illogical if one is going to impose the requirement on first-year matriculants. But it also doesn't apply to grad students. Or faculty and staff, for that matter.by dag14 - John Spencer Is Dead
