Re: Who are these guys? - 10 years ago
I can take a stab at some: #1 John Hughes #2 Kevin Pettit maybe #3 ?? #4 Harkness #5 ?? #6 ?? #7 Dick Bertrand. Bertrand played for 4 years at Cornell but he had a birthday and was too old to compete in the championships.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: Can offensive skills be taught at this level? - 10 years ago
Having watched a Cornell lacrosse goalie become a highly regarded LSM since his talent was being wasted riding the bench behind Matt McMonagle, I know that a good athlete can be coached/trained to be much more highly skilled, even at this level. Whether it is learning to be smarter about playing the position or learning how to execute a skill more effectively why shouldn't this be true of Diviby dag14 - Hockey
Re: Falconry - 10 years ago
True if they are licensed to do so and have the required permits. BR and Ez are also banded as part of a research project so off limits to licensed falconers.by dag14 - Other Sports
Re: Falconry - 10 years ago
And in other news, BR and Ez are back and sitting on three eggs again this year. When on campus check out their home at the top of the light pole just east of Weill Hall. Or from anywhere in the world visit them 24/7 on the hawk cam: hawk camby dag14 - Other Sports
Re: Wrestling - NCAA Championships - 10 years ago
Realbuto's match was both a heartbreaker and an inspiration. He injured his knee early in the first period -- he could barely put weight on his leg. His knee was taped up and he kept wrestling. And he didn't just lie on the mat to watch the clock count down in an effort to avoid the injury default -- he kept battling even though he was clearly in pain. In the third period the ESPN announcer sby dag14 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell - Colgate LAX - Cor 10-7 end of 3 - 10 years ago
Knight and the defense were looking directly into very bright sun in the last quarter; I don't think he was seeing the ball well at all -- literally. That plus some sloppy play at both ends made this game closer than it needed to be.by dag14 - Other Sports

Dustin Brown played varsity hockey at Ithaca High School as an eighth grader, the first year he was eligible to do so. He left for the OHL after 9th grade....by dag14 - Other Sports

Cornell was rolling 2 lines for most of the 3rd, which shortened the bench even more.by dag14 - Hockey

This thread hijack is no fun. Can we get back to talking about our actual alums who are actually playing pro hockey?by dag14 - Hockey
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2014 - 10 years ago
Don't forget that we have not yet played a ranked team....Cornell should have excellent numbers at this point in the season. The true measure of this group is how they do going forward. I think they have the character to surprise a lot of people, and quite likely the skills. There is not a lot of depth on the team, however, so the guys need to stay healthy.by dag14 - Other Sports

3 unanswered goals in the 3rd period so Cornell takes game one.by dag14 - Hockey

At least one key Cornell player was sick this week. I suspect that she was/is not alone. This may have an impact on their play.by dag14 - Hockey

Re: Cornell-Hobart lacrosse opener C12-8 - 10 years ago
An observation on the scoring of the last two Cornell goals: After Cornell scored to make it 10-8, Hobart called a TO. When Cornell controlled the ensuing faceoff and went on offense, the guys passed on a couple of good scoring opportunities and seemed satisfied to just maintain possession. Cornell called a TO with about 1:20 left. Coming out of the TO it was clear the plan was to kill the clby dag14 - Other Sports

Colgate internet feed was horrible for the women's game on Friday as well. It was free but I would have preferred to pay if it would mean actually being able to see the games.by dag14 - Hockey

The flu is making its way around campus. I don't have any hockey players in my classes this term but I have had a dozen other athletes miss class due to flu or come to class with obvious symptoms. Keep your fingers crossed that the guys are just tired from a tough weekend and not sick....by dag14 - Hockey
Re: WTF, is Lynah empty?! - 10 years ago
I found a ticket to the UMass game that someone had dropped. It was a seat in Section B with a price of $13. The rest of us pay $18 a ticket for season tickets; students pay $13. For reasons unrelated to Cornell hockey, I have had access to several years worth of information about the athletic department budget, and the rationale behind the spending cuts that were made in the very lean yearsby dag14 - Hockey
