Re: Men's Lax Tournament 2024 - 3 days ago
The entirety of Big Ten Lacrosse just disgusts me. Are there really going to be four Big Ten teams (JHU, PSU, U of M and Maryland) in the NCAA tournament?by MattShaf - Other Sports

This edition of Cornell Lacrosse is an enigma. At this point, anything is possible.by MattShaf - Other Sports

As complete of a game the Red have played this year. Ivy wins against the Yale and Princeton are the beginnings of a good NCAA resume and we seem to be hitting stride at a critical time in the season.by MattShaf - Other Sports

Last second Pole Goal for a Win was phenomenal! but I am glad to get off that roller coaster ride of a game. Lots of stuff to clean up but, An Ivy League win v Princeton is an awesome way to spend a Sunday afternoonby MattShaf - Other Sports

Not being able to win a draw and not being able to play team defense is a bad combination. Let’s see some halftime adjustments and win this game.by MattShaf - Other Sports
Re: MLAX: @Denver 2/24 - 2 months ago
Miserable loss for the Big Red. Up 4 goals twice and outscored 5-2 in the 4th quarter. Beaten regularly at the face off X (only 15-37) Too many unforced errors in second half and too many undisciplined penalties (DU 5-7 with the extra man). Let’s hope we don’t look back at this one at the end of season with regret.by MattShaf - Other Sports

Lacrosse seats are in many ways similar to football. If you like to watch a play develop and understand the importance of all ball movement a seat in the second tier is a great perspective. Unlike hockey sitting behind the net in lacrosse is not a great vantage point (IMO) as you are typically too far from the field to appreciate the play on the near side of the field.by MattShaf - Other Sports

4 point weekend after not playing a real game in 18 months is a great start. Look forward to building chemistry and developing finish over the course of the season. See you all in Lynah East next weekend.by MattShaf - Hockey

Kaldis scores to make it a 4-3 Cornell deficit. About 11 minutes left in the 2nd. This one has the making of a shootout.by MattShaf - Hockey
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2017 - 7 years ago
SU with three daggers to end an otherwise close first half. The CU shot which hit the pipe but led to a SU goal was vintage SU v CU. Plus the final goal of the half with 0.1 seconds left is just unexcusable. Going to be very hard for Cornell to comeback since the Big Red only went 3-12 at the faceoff X in the first half and SU has been a better second half team much of the year.by MattShaf - Other Sports

Yup....Although we were outplayed the rest of the period by UML, the response was better than against UNH in '03.by MattShaf - Hockey
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2017 - 7 years ago
Very slow start to this year...and it doesnt look like we will have the talent to compete with Top 20 teams. Perhaps its time to re-evaluate the recruiting process, shake up the current recruiting philosophy and rebuild from the base.by MattShaf - Other Sports

Another loss. 0-4-1 in the last five is rather pathetic. This team has regressed back to mediocrity at this point.by MattShaf - Hockey
Re: Cornell 9 @ Harvard 10 lax - 9 years ago
Edited my original post to reflect the high school rule which allows the team in possession of the ball to call timeout at any location on field. This is also rule at youth level and in the NLL. MLL doesn't have a restraining Box so not sure how they play it.by MattShaf - Other Sports
Re: Cornell 9 @ Harvard 10 lax - 9 years ago
Stand corrected and apologies to Coach Kerwick who clearly knows the rules better than myself at the college level. Thanks for the link. FWIW, this is not the rule at the High school (section 25 article 2) level.by MattShaf - Other Sports
Re: Cornell 9 @ Harvard 10 lax - 9 years ago
I scoured NCAA rule book and can't find that stipulation. I think it is common practice to get the ball in the zone first to stop the clear clock and prevent the other team from setting up a tougher ride. Certainly we see coaches call timeout with a defenseman in trouble or a clear in trouble in many circumstances. If the face off has separate rules I am unaware of them but will re look at the NCby MattShaf - Other Sports
Re: Cornell 9 @ Harvard 10 lax - 9 years ago
Coach Kerwick has to take some of the heat for this loss. At 9-9, when Massimillan wins the FO But is forced to come back to the Cornell side of the field he needs to use his TO (especially when he has two in his pocket). As a coach you must minimize the possibility of a transition turnover especially when, with less than 1 minute to play, the next goal will likely win the game. Otherwise, tighby MattShaf - Other Sports
Re: ECAC Prelims - 9 years ago
+1 Great reply on right on point. Do you believe that the program improve with Shafer as the coach or not. That is the criterion that matters, nothing else IMO. Mattby MattShaf - Hockey
Re: ECAC Prelims - 9 years ago
Even if this isn't rock-bottom, there is no reason to wait to see if we reach that point before a change is made.by MattShaf - Hockey
Re: ECAC Prelims - 9 years ago
In '94 We were chanting "McCutcheon Must Go". I wouldn't be surprised if the undergrads will be calling for Shafer's job soon. It's a shame given how close his team's were in the early 2000's but either the game has passed his style of play by or his ability to recruit players capable of succeeding in his system has significantly diminished. Either way a dramatic change is needed to rigby MattShaf - Hockey

Will any CU fans be going to the Sucks v Yale game at MSG on Jam 11? It is possible that there might be more CU fans at this game than either Harvard or Yale alumni. Matt Shafiroffby MattShaf - Hockey
