Re: Red Hot Hockey - 10 years ago
The ice was very soft. Not sure if that was a result of the Rangers game in the afternoon prior to the CU v. BU game or just due to the fact that the Garden ice is 5 stories above ground and always sucks a little more than other NHL rinks that host a multitude of events. We were in 210 row 11 and couldn't believe that the shot on the 5v3 didn't go in. We heard absolutely no ping from a post oby MattShaf - Hockey
Re: Red Cast Really Sucks - 11 years ago
Even more infuriating about tonight is that Sidearm supports Colgate Hockey for both audio and video, yet we wouldn't even be offered the video b/c it's an away game.by MattShaf - Hockey

Hey at least I can watch on my ipad this year! Video quality is above average through quiktime. Mattby MattShaf - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Ferris State In Progress - 12 years ago
Tough ending. Had the feeling that we were just a little tight. Looking for the perfect play instead of just going with the play. PP was really tough to watch. I'm usually the last one to be screaming shoot the puck but what would Doug Murray have done! He would have unloaded the bomb! From the beginning, not really sure what we were getting most of the year. Feeling was, good to hang with thby MattShaf - Hockey

Bemidji State vs Minnesota Women's Hockey on BTN in HD works nicely. Redcast doesn't work at all. What an f-in joke.by MattShaf - Hockey
Re: Not a goal? - 12 years ago
The old MSG is notorious for odd bounces off the boards and not infrequently would a team score from some ricochet off the stantions, which is what would appear to be the case here. Too bad it didn't work in our favor this time.by MattShaf - Hockey
Re: Screw BU - 12 years ago
Agree the call against Birch was the most egregious due to the timing. Play was right in front of us and was soft at best.by MattShaf - Hockey
Re: Not a goal? - 12 years ago
At the game, we had a great vantage for the first no goal. Net came off the far mooring. It looked to us however that the puck landed on the goal line and bounced immediately out then a real quick whistle with the puck still in loose in the crease. But, perhaps that was with our Cornell tinted glasses. Cornell owned that second period (especially the 4x4) and should have scored 3-4 times. But tby MattShaf - Hockey

Scrivens looks good tonight for Leafs in preseason game vs. Flyers. Very "big" in net.by MattShaf - Hockey
Re: Cornell-BU tickets MSG Sat 11/26/11 8 pm - 12 years ago
Looks like the scalpers have finally caught on as almost all tickets are sold out already and sites like stubhub are flooded with tix at significant markup.by MattShaf - Hockey

Yale +3. Likely at Pepe's before the game. Should be fun!by MattShaf - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Rensselaer - 13 years ago
Tough, hard played game in both directions. Cornell really looked clueless on the Power Play until the overtime session. No set plays, paucity of shots. Guys couldn't decide whether to shoot the puck in and chase or carry the puck in and then set up the play. We looked much better playing 5-5 or 4-4 then man up. Overall, we shut down their power play, limited the changes in momentum against uby MattShaf - Hockey

1-1 start lynah east living up to name. Good game so far a few to many turnovers. Looking forward to stronger 2nd.by MattShaf - Hockey
Re: Buh-bye, seniors - 14 years ago
Winning an ECAC title and getting into the NCAAs is a superb year!!! IMO, this team played great hockey week in and week out. They did this all while dealing with the challenges of an undergraduate workload at Cornell! The coach has his system. His success compared to his peers reinforces this style (4 ECAC titles in 10 years). I was as dissappointed as any other alum with last night's resultby MattShaf - Hockey
Re: Thank you seniors 2010 - 14 years ago
Thank you to a great group of Cornellians! We appreciate your effort and commitment to our (and hopefully your) favorite CU pasttime. Good luck Matthew Shafiroff, '94by MattShaf - Hockey
Re: North Dakota Postgame 1/22 - 14 years ago
Great grind it out win. On one of those nights where the offense and power play were not clicking, the defwnse and goaltending stepped up and generated a win over a highly ranked opponent. Scrivens play was superb. I'm looking forward to a more open but harder hitting game tonight.by MattShaf - Hockey

Re: MSG Pre-Game - 14 years ago
MSG let's you bring bags in. Typically, they do not like to let food into the building but if its snacks or you have kids with your they're generally ok with that kind of stuff.by MattShaf - Hockey
Re: Quinnipiac 3 at Cornell 2 postgame - 14 years ago
just two notes: (1) We needed a better game out of Scrivens. The goal in the last minute of a period was an energy killer and the third goal was soft. Yale and Q are clearly the class of the ECAC, and Scrivens has had some breakdowns in both games. (2) This is a continuation from last year: teams with real speed give us problems. We fail to either effectively forecheck or to clog up the neutraby MattShaf - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2 at Yale 3+ENG (postgame) - 14 years ago
Agree with most of the above analysis. (Especially with the traffic on I-95 sucking part) Yale played a very fast and well skated game, quickly capitalizing on many neutral zone turnovers and peppering Scrivens with shots (22 alone in the first period - agreed they we're not shots on net). However, that said the game could have gotten out of hand early had a few more of those chances (because maby MattShaf - Hockey

Gate's comeback would probably be more impressive rallying from a 4-1 deficit to win. Does 'Gate still do three dog night?by MattShaf - Hockey
Re: Cornell 6 - 3 Hahvahd; Final - 14 years ago
Great third period. Tons of energy xombined with physical play. Really punished them.by MattShaf - Hockey
Re: NCAA Regional Final: Cornell (1) vs. Bemidji (4) - FINAL - 15 years ago
Close game until the 3rd goal. We missed some high quality scoring chances early in the game and then looked like we had no legs left in the third. Goal scorers goal against us to make it 2-1 (did anyone see what happened to the injured CU playe behinf the BSU net on that play?) and then scramble in front of the net to make it 3-1 and seal our fate.
