Dunphy Leaves Penn Basketball - 18 years ago
Penn's coach leaves to take over from John Chaney at Temple. Thoughts? Does this give someone else a chance to win the NCAA ticket?by CrazyLarry - Other Sports

Having sat on ajury last week in a case where all the eveidence was eyewitness testimony, good luck finding such a place John. Any faith I had in the system is pretty much dogshit now.by CrazyLarry - Other Sports
Re: NCAA 3/26 - 18 years ago
Fair enough. I was trying to make the point it was a good shot, but it would have been even better to hit the near upper corner, so it was a stupid phrasing. Still, bad goaltending.by CrazyLarry - Hockey
Re: NCAA 3/26 - 18 years ago
Yeah, you CANNOT allow that shit in. Beautiful shot, to the far upper corner, but no excuse not to be able to cut that off. 2 goals for MSU in the last 90 seconds of periods. Lack of mental toughness from Maine.by CrazyLarry - Hockey
Re: Thank You, Schafer! (Part 1001) - 18 years ago
Now, I'm being slightly argumentative, devil's advocate here, but I think it's a very legitimate question, when no other ECAC team has won a tourney game in 6 years. As for Colgate competing last year, well, so did Bemidji State last year, and Holy Cross this year. I don't think that means those conferences are competetive as a whole, yet. The wins are just rare events, where rare in hockey isby CrazyLarry - Hockey
Re: Thank You, Schafer! (Part 1001) - 18 years ago
This is as good a place as any (except the Harvard thread) to point out the remarkable 6-5 record Schafer has in NCAA tourney play going into today. That's really good, considering the number of other ECAC wins in the NCAA tourney in that time. Counting that up, the ECAC is 9-23 in the NCAAs since Schafer came to Cornell. Cornell is 6-5 in that time. The last non-Cornell ECAC team to win anby CrazyLarry - Hockey

It just seemed to work fine for me once I set it up. Well, to be fair I tried this to try to get the CBS MarchMadness Internet, and that didn't work at all. But it worked for CN8 today. So, I really can't say.by CrazyLarry - Hockey

It seems you should just be able to go to the Mocrosoft site and pick up "Windows Media Components for QuickTime" Let me know if you need more infoby CrazyLarry - Hockey
Re: NCAA 3/26 - 18 years ago
I'm watching on my Mac laptop as well. I had to pick up some plugin that allows Quicktime to play WMP stuff. I can't remember what it's called, though. let me see if I can find it.by CrazyLarry - Hockey
Re: OFFICIAL NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament Bracket 2006 - 18 years ago
Could be worse. I had to wake up at 8 am to watch it. And then after, I thought to myself, "Why did I wake up to watch it?" I can get better, more coherent, more accurate analysis any number of places at a time of my choosing. ESPN probably knows this. So, why do we watch it. Just because it's Cornell hockey on TV. Bob Norton could come out speaking in toungues and we'd still watby CrazyLarry - Hockey

Re: 2005-06 Schedule - 19 years ago
Amen to that. Some of us remember listening to road play-in games on the radio and watching dump-and-chase all season long. And by chase, I mean road-runner/coyote chase, as in, not get. I suppose I didn't watch too many years of futility, but it should be noted, my Cornell hockey fandom began with at least 5 months before I actually saw a win. Still, I must say, it'd be nice to play a reby CrazyLarry - Hockey

Re: Analyzing the RPI Bonus - 19 years ago
Of course, with the committee doing their "We voted and made DU the #2 overall," thing, I'm not so sure we can keep doing this and know for certain, which is why I have not gone back and done the analysis for this year. On the Selection Show is was very clear that there was discussion on whether Cornell or Minnesota got the last #1 seed. There is no reasonable set of bonuses thatby CrazyLarry - Hockey

As I recall, I don't remember you doing too much back then, either....by CrazyLarry - Hockey
Re: Quit BITCHING about seeding - 19 years ago
Yes Scott. I knew that. I didn't think through that the whole Amherst regional was Away, so it didn't matter. I thought you were mentioning UNH as away because it made a difference. I guess it's the BC and Mich regions that would make a difference.by CrazyLarry - Hockey
Re: Quit BITCHING about seeding - 19 years ago
Actually, Amherst is 200x95, almost Olympic, so I don't see how that's a size problem for UNH. I would say the right thing is to make all games neutral except actual home games (i.e. Minnesota). You could argue crowds for BC, BU and Michigan, but I would think UHN will also get plenty of crowd support at Amherst. But crowd support and actual home rink are two different things.by CrazyLarry - Hockey
Re: OSU vs. Cornell Stats & Facts - 19 years ago
The CCHA seems to be heavily penalized. OSU is still highly penalized, but I noticed they also have a lot more PP opportunities than the average team. That suggests at least some of their PIM excess is due to officiating, not dumb play. So, not too telling.by CrazyLarry - Hockey
Re: How to fix the seeding process - 19 years ago
Since when do teams get to pick their opponent, and why do you think Schafer will be any better at doing it than the Committee? Also, do you really think Schafer will pick going to Worcester in BC's region rather than playing a struggling, injured Minnesota. And why would he want the headache? I'd rather he concentrate on winning two games, rather than scouting 16 teams. Also, this year's tby CrazyLarry - Hockey

Didn't even know KASA was on USCHO. Cool. Why isn't there a link to it?by CrazyLarry - Hockey
Re: How to fix the seeding process - 19 years ago
I know we'd all love to be in an east regional, but the system is really pretty good. As everyone says, no one predictor (RPI, TUC record, H2H, COP, or even KRACH) has enough precision to define seeding. PWR takes a number of criteria (not the best criteria, no, but not worthless ones, either, at least they are reasonably well motivated) and uses them all together. I think that has some value.by CrazyLarry - Hockey

Re: minnesota it is - 19 years ago
Record in last 20 (or 16) is a terrible criteria. Those games are exclusively conference, except the Beanpot. Maybe 20 gets you back to the holiday tourneys for some teams. With conference strengths so different, not to mention that the difficulty within a conference will be wildly spread based on who you play early and who you play late. Also, the ECAC is the only conference with a balancedby CrazyLarry - Hockey
