Y'know what's really missing with ESPN+? Picture-in-picture, or the ability to switch rapidly (i.e., one remote keystroke like the "last" on cable remotes) between two events. I'm sticking with Albany @ Cornell men's lax right now, but I'd really love to be able to check in on the women's ECAC hockey quarterfinal against RPI without backing out a couple of menu levels on the AppleTV eacby Beeeej - Hockey

Anybody able to get the 3pm Albany @ Cornell game on ESPN+? It's still saying "has not yet started" for me.by Beeeej - Other Sports
Re: 2019-03-01: Cornell 4 St. Lawrence 2 - 5 years ago
ugarte PWR now: 6 Quinnipiac 10 Clarkson 11 Harvard 12 Cornell By the end of the night, we were back down in #13. A win over Clarkson could easily leave us as #8 regardless of other results in the ECAC, from what I've been able to generate. Haven't done much playing around with other conference results.by Beeeej - Hockey
Re: 2019-03-01: #11 Cornell at St. Lawrence - 5 years ago
Apropos of nothing, I just took a look at the ESPN+ schedule to verify that Cornell @ SLU is on the schedule (it is), and noticed that also on the slate for tonight is Alabama @ Liberty. Yes, Jerry Falwell's university has an ACHA Div. I club team, and they're streaming tonight. (Rensselaer @ Cornell women's hockey - ECAC quarterfinal - also streaming on ESPN+, 6pm EST.)by Beeeej - Hockey
Re: Bracketology 2019 - 5 years ago
Not to get too obsessive about these things, but we're rooting against Providence again tonight; a BU win again pushes them down to #13 and us up to #12. Other results don't seem to matter much. The game's on NBC Sports Boston, whatever that is.by Beeeej - Hockey

BearLover This team really needs Donaldson. He does things no one else who has played for Cornell in the past ten years is even capable of. Not even Riley was this fast and tenacious. If Donaldson is healthy enough for the playoffs and we get Andreev back, we can beat anybody. Though our sixth defenseman is a glaring weak link. Donaldson All Cleared Despite Scareby Beeeej - Hockey

marty ugarte Trotsky I believe in hardware. So, the Ivy title is great, and we have a shot at another title this weekend: the ECAC RS. I am aware that some of you disparage that achievement. Opinions vary. To me it's another thing to look back at in 20 years for them to be proud of. Let's Go Red!i only disparage it when clarkson wins it I primarily denigrate the title because of the cup'by Beeeej - Hockey

upprdeck OSU really is sitting in the same spot as us though even at 7 if they lose 2 to MSU and then drop early in the b10 who knows where they fall.. had we beaten MSU we probably would almost be a lock Don't know about "a lock," as all kinds of things can still go wrong in the last weekend or over the conference tourney - but a split with MSU would have us in 8th right now, aby Beeeej - Hockey
Re: Men's & Women's Awards 2018-19 - 5 years ago
Trotsky ugarteGiven what it would mean for the other ECAC teams clustered around us, this is probably true but I'm going to sweat it anyway. Perhaps now is not the time to mention that we have not made the NC$$ 3x in a row in almost 50 years. That feels so mind-bogglingly wrong given how good we were from 2002-12, but obviously it's true.by Beeeej - Hockey
Re: 2019-03-01: Cornell at St. Lawrence - 5 years ago
Pairwise-wise, btw, we're rooting for UConn over Providence tonight. No matter who wins in Denver @ Colorado College, a UConn win pushes us up to 12th. (EDIT to add: Or more accurately, drops Providence down to 13th.)by Beeeej - Hockey
Re: 2019-03-01: Cornell at St. Lawrence - 5 years ago
Dafatone French Rage What's our tiebreaker with Yale? Have we clinched top 4? We're split on head to head, so it goes to wins. If they tie us in points, it means they've passed us in wins, so we'd lose that. We need a point to clinch top 4. Or a Yale tie/loss. Put a bit more succinctly: Unless we get swept and Yale sweeps, we've got a bye.by Beeeej - Hockey

scoop85 He did that after an embarrassing loss at Army about 20 years ago Yup, he did it his first season as head coach (1995-96) after losing at Army 4-1, including having them run around Army's rink for a while still in their gear before letting them on the bus. He regretted it so much (because he had to suffer with the players' stench, too) that he swore he'd never do it again.by Beeeej - Hockey

Jim Hyla USCHO article on how we're doing with our injury bug this year. "Those two wins came at cost, though" Man, if I'd known we could get our wins wholesale, I would've stopped paying retail years ago.by Beeeej - Hockey

For what it's worth, I would happily spend the next ten years slightly dehydrated if it meant Cornell would win the 2019 NC. That was the question, right?by Beeeej - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Brown - 5 years ago
kevdog8 Has Cornell ever called up a club player in the recent era? This year, Schafer has been forced to dress Song, Bramwell and Brakel (when he was here) at times but has preferred to roll 11 forwards or 5 D-men over giving those guys shifts. My guess is he dresses Song/Bramwell as needed and leaves them at the end of the bench again... Paging Damien Rocke...by Beeeej - Hockey

Beeeej Anybody else have no audio? I'm watching the anthem, but there's no sound. Never mind - the broadcasters came on after the anthem. Low gain, but turned it up and it's fine.by Beeeej - Hockey

Re: Gonna Fly Now/Gary Glitter - 5 years ago
LGR14 What's up with the band this year playing Gonna Fly Now before the teams get back on the ice, such that Gary Glitter starts early and fans are telling the Sieve he sucks before he's even on the ice? The old timing worked forever - not sure why they felt the need to change it. I wasn't privy to the conversation, but my impression is they've been moving it up a little each of the last fewby Beeeej - Hockey

Beeeej For the record: After a few random mid-week games, Cornell is #13 in the PWR going into tonight's action. After the win over Hahvahd, as other results come in we're bouncing around #10-11.by Beeeej - Hockey
Re: Conference Play - 5 years ago
Beeeej That's it for OOC play this season, and after all the results are in from last night we're holding at #14 in the PWR, the very definition of the NCAA bubble in recent years. Shockingly, that still leaves us as the second-highest ECAC team in those rankings, and we've already gone 0-1-1 against #6 Quinnipiac with no opportunity to improve that unless we meet again in the playoffs. Re: 2019-01-11: #17 Cornell vs #13 Arizona State - 5 years ago
Scersk '97 They're a fast-skating, counter punching team. Let them shoot and they'll probably score some. We don't seem to be into letting other teams shoot this year, which is fine with me. One wonders if Schafer had a chat with Casey. I commented last night that it's been a long time since I've seen a Cornell team with the intensity required to want to block close-in shots with their boby Beeeej - Hockey
Re: Arizona State - 5 years ago
cufan Just curious as to who is footing the bill for ASU's extensive travel budget? Playing ranked teams around the countr appears to be paying off this year - just look at their record. Makes we wonder why we do not beef up our schedule a little. Maybe you lose a game or three but the team gets exposed to to flight competition. Just a thought. Swampy Jim Hyla Dryden was a major exception and our first drafted player. Was he really our first drafted player, or just the first to be drafted and actually play in the NHL? (I'm not questioning what you're saying. I just seem to recall that around the late sixties and through the seventies is was common for players to be drafted but never even get a cup of coffee in the pros.) Firstby Beeeej - Hockey
