Boston Globe Article on Devins and Whitney - 14 years ago
According to Joe Devin, who plays forward for the Big Red, playing with his brother and Whitney, who are both defensemen, has made his collegiate experience special. “It’s been unbelievable,’’ Joe Devin said of his time at Cornell, in Ithaca, N.Y., some 350 miles away from home. “Growing up around Boston hockey, you see most kids going to play at BU or BC or Northeastern. Don't forget the added benefit for recruiting. Scrivens is now the only collegiate goalie to have made two starts in MSG. Promising recruits an annual trip to Florida and a chance to play at MSG sounds pretty awesome.by ebilmes - Hockey

It's not like BU scored a clean, wide-open goal or anything. And it wasn't even on the 6-on-3. BU turned a 5x4 into a 6x4, as is standard for teams which are losing in the final minute of the third period. There was traffic around the net and the BU forward made a nice play to poke in the puck. I really, really don't see the big deal about the 6x3.by ebilmes - Hockey

During last night's Islanders-Leafs game, the announcers mentioned that Schafer was doing a great job of preparing players for the NHL while ensuring that they received a quality education. They talked about how Matt had stayed for four full years and that Chris was there now. Moulson promptly committed a penalty in the offensive zone (in the crease, no less) and Toronto scored on the pp.by ebilmes - Hockey

Since the USCHO article mentioned Gallagher's chances at Hobey consideration, it might be relevant to point out that one of the delusional Oilers prospect blogs continues to believe that Riley Nash is a legitimate candidate for the Hobey Baker: Recently, and for the first time I can recall since Shawn Horcoff starred in the NCAA, there have been whispers about Nash as a possible nominee foby ebilmes - Hockey

RichH Kyle Rose RichHActually, I thought all our videos were pretty good, certainly not "embarrassingly bad." They were inappropriate for the venue: too syrupy. It's a hockey game, which means more ass-kicking and less glee club. Yeah. And then there was that one that made our football program look like a place for excellence. I didn't really expect to see much high-quality stuff,by ebilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell-BU @ MSG postgame - 14 years ago
Jim Hyla jkahnAnd finally, so ebilmes doesn't have to say it this week, you just can't take a cross-checking penalty in the offensive zone, paticularly late in the third period. And to repeat myself, it's OK to take a slashing penalty when you're a man down at the end of the game? After all, that's the one that led to the goal. Both penalties were stupid. Both came late in the 3rd in a close gamby ebilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell-BU @ MSG postgame - 14 years ago
BU was a different team than any other we've played this year. They were better, and I'm not sure why their record is so bad (I guess it's Millan's fault?). I hope our guys learned something from watching their powerplay. I know we've had great special teams this year, but imagine how often we could score if we passed like they did! Some good stops by Scrivens and a few missed open nets, otherby ebilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 BU 3 (Final) - 14 years ago
Third goal seemed to be a crease violation when they showed the replay at MSG. But as others have said, Ritchie had no doubt that it was a goal. I question why it would not have been reviewed, since either the crease violation or the whistle would have negated the goal. Tie which felt like a loss. Stupid mental errors and zero clean goals for BU.by ebilmes - Hockey

Re: MSG game video available on Redcast - 14 years ago
Jim Hyla Rita Yeah! I wasn't looking forward to using BU's All/ Some/ No Access. But is this a separate broadcast, or are they picking up what BU was doing? I know Jason will be there for radio, but? It's the MSG in-house video feed, which I assume will be sent to both BU and Cornell, but ours will have Jason's audio accompanying it.by ebilmes - Hockey
Re: Quinnipiac 3 at Cornell 2 postgame - 14 years ago
HockeyManFair enough re Greening, but from where I was sitting it looked to me like a 2 min minor at best. And yes, some of the other calls were highly dubious (including the makeup call on Q after Greening was sent off, which made me think the refs too wondered about the earlier call, or at least about the rule as written). Right, the Q penalty which was called during Greening's major was a vby ebilmes - Hockey
Re: Quinnipiac 3 at Cornell 2 postgame - 14 years ago
I'm not going to try messing with the quote formatting, but to respond to Jim's comment... I think one big reason why some of us tend to focus on B.Nash is that he gets the start every single game. It's absolutely mindboggling when he has a terrible game (i.e. Yale) and then his name is called during introductions the following night. If the coaching staff proclaims Nash to be the top defensemby ebilmes - Hockey
Re: Quinnipiac 3 at Cornell 2 postgame - 14 years ago
Perhaps I am also a "negative Nelly," but I don't see many positives to take away from tonight's game. The first period was absolutely dreadful. Three minors from our top defensive pairing, including two from B.Nash. Then Greening's hit; there wasn't any malicious intent, but it was a hit from behind and the Q player went down hard. If you ever doubted Greening's importance to this tby ebilmes - Hockey

Re: Princeton 2 at Cornell 5 (postgame) - 14 years ago
Nash's goal was a snipe from near the faceoff circle right in front of B. He had no one in front of him, took his time with the puck, and lasered a shot which beat Kalemba over his (left?) shoulder. Robb's analysis seems spot-on, especially about what happened on the two Princeton goals. Given how close each of the games against P were last year, I was surprised to see how bad Princeton lookedby ebilmes - Hockey
