KeithK ugarte Rita Yeah, I know, not our alumni, but did anyone else notice a few more wrinkles and age spots when you realized the NHL Eastern conference finals will feature Tim Thomas and Martin St. Louis? PS... Thank you Josh for the updates. Just the opposite. When guys from the old days are still playing it makes me feel less decrepit. Towerroad Jim Hyla Dafatone Kyle Rose Trotsky We will disagree, but I don't think you can just "figure out" how to compete with a team that is simply head and shoulders superior to you They may not figure out how to win, but they certainly should be able to figure out how not to lose 6-0 after several years of observation and planning. Re: Cu - 0 Yale - ECAC finals (postgame) - 13 years ago
Towerroad As many have pointed out Cornell has been the dominant team in the ECAC during the Schafer era. I think that cuts to the big question: is dominance of the ECAC enough to qualify for success? I for one would like a bit more. Again, I'm not calling for a Frozen Four every year and a championship once every five -- but something a bit more than "we're the top of the middle tier."by ftyuv - Hockey

Ronald '09 Rita RatushnyFan Beating your man to the net and slamming home a rebound is a beautiful thing IMHO. In my opinion too. That is why I got a bit miffed when it was referred to as a "garbage goal". I just thought it was good hustle, a good hockey play on Greening's part. I think the term garbage goal is appropriate, but also doesn't necessarily mean it's ugly. If you look aby ftyuv - Hockey
Re: Cu - 0 Yale - 6 after two - 13 years ago
Jim Hyla Kyle Rose ftyuv I'd just like to say that I think there's a middle ground. There are teams for whom a championship is often a (reasonable) hope, a frozen four is a reasonable reach/goal, a win in the tourney is the bar, and not making the tourney is a disappointment. There are teams for whom making the tournament would be great, and a frozen four would be the highlight of the program.by ftyuv - Hockey

Rita DisplacedCornellian RatushnyFan What did Dougie do to draw 17 PIM from Steve Ott? Atta boy! Looks like a tough night on paper for Greening (-3), I didn't see the game though. Ott was upset about this hit by Murray, so he decided he wanted to try to fight Douglas. Ott really is a punk. BigRedHockeyFan Cactus12 NHL players are aware of the dangerous areas around the benches... especially a veteran defenseman like Chara. In my opinion, rule changes or redesign don't prevent this sort of thing (plenty of players get hurt on dangerous hits without involvement of the turnbuckle). Chara is generally not a dirty player, but he was riding Pacioretty into the boards after the puck was gby ftyuv - Hockey

Re: The least disciplined team in the ECAC - 13 years ago
Robb Towerroad I got the PIM number off each of the teams web sites. I may have misinterpreted the numbers but if I did please show me the errors of my way. The point is that PIMs include 10-minute misconducts, which don't actually put your team down a man. Of course, they hurt you in the sense that the player is not available during those 10 minutes, but you don't necessarily play shorthanded.by ftyuv - Hockey

ftyuv I'm pretty out of the loop on this team, but I did see the @Sucks game, and it did occur to me that we're pretty undisciplined. billhoward ftyuv Interestingly enough, the "was Paille's suspension justified?" poll on Boston.com's Bruins blog is pretty evenly divided. Personally I think 4 games is good. Paille isn't a dirty player, but the hit was dirty. Hopefully the NHL is sending the message that dirty without intent is 4 games, so if you throw in intent (ahem, Matt Cooke) you better be prepared to sit for a goby ftyuv - Hockey
