Re: 2020 Takeaways - 2 years ago
upprdeck the ivies took it more serious than most schools, thats not a bad thing.. it hurt the team for sure.. given what people knew at the time it was probably the best decision. Had more serious things happened to kids I dont anyone would be questioning what they did.. And kids did get sick around the country and some were seriously sick even if its not widely publicized and and small number.by Jim Hyla - Hockey

BearLover scoop85 BearLover I just hope the townie side fills up next year. I wonder if most of the empty seats formerly belonged to antivaxxers. I’d be surprised if there’s a big antivaxxer contingent in Ithaca. More likely it’s that the townies are taking a more cautious approach to attending large events.Ithaca, no. Re: ECAC playoffs 2022 - 2 years ago
BearLover Cornell looked like it had so much more energy than Colgate towards the end of tonight’s game. Seeing what happened at Clarkson and Harvard (both winning in OT with Harvard staging a huge comeback in the final minutes), I wouldn’t be surprised if the same thing was true for those teams. Having a bye is such a massive advantage. I agree that playoff inflation is a bad thing. IMO theby Jim Hyla - Hockey

BearLover Jim Hyla Big win with 6 goals and where is Bearlover? Not loving Bears anymore? I didn’t realize how anxiously everyone was awaiting my thoughts on last night’s game! Sorry to keep everyone waiting. Without further ado…(drumroll, please)… Last night’s effort was probably the most complete performance by Cornell in any game I’ve watched this season. Scersk '97 ice Scersk '97 Looks like, in beating Quinnipiac, Clarkson did what we haven't been able to do for some time—pop a two-goal lead and then play defense, defense, defense. ice Swampy osorojo I attended my first Cornell Men's Varsity hockey game over 60 years ago - still follow and still hope . . . I can't remember a single C.U.M.V.H team which evinced such wildly different efforts and results as this year's team. Have you? Isn't being erratic a common characteristic of a young team? The 1979-1980 season was very up and down and the team ended up at the FF. Bby Jim Hyla - Hockey

BearLover Al DeFlorio BearLover Couldn’t it just as easily be argued cancelling athletics amounted to treating athletes worse than members of other clubs that were allowed to hold events last year? Cornell Glee Club? Year and a half of no live performances. Cornell Orchestra? The 10/3/21 concert was the first in over a year. Do your homework. Well, those restrictions were questionable also. Roy 82 BearLover If you want to get angry at someone for not caring, I’d suggest you direct your anger at the Ivy League. They’re the ones who decided to cancel last season while 51 other schools played because they thought obliterating all of their athletic teams was worth making it appear like they were doing something about COVID. And then the Ivy League waited until most of the upperclassmeby Jim Hyla - Hockey

Must have been interesting at Union. At 18:30 in the third it's 4-3 Union and Colgate pulls their goalie. From then till 19:41 Colgate scores an EAG, even strength and then an EN, to win 6-4.by Jim Hyla - Hockey

Trotsky No joy or energy all night. We have looked like a beaten dog. I've seen us suck plenty of times. But other than 93 I've never seen us not care. Give me a break. We out shot them 41-19 and 2 of their 19 were the empty net goals. We certainly looked like a beaten dog when we out shot them 21-5 in the third period, again with 2 EN shots. Re: Harvard Game Thread - 2 years ago
blackwidow Harvard has so much individual talent.. sheesh... so many draft picks That is what is so bad about 3 skater OT and shootout. It may work in the pros where the player strength is so much more uniform than in college. Harvard has all those draft picks, who can obviously be better in a shootout, compared to us, say nothing of teams with no picks. Gives advantage to the teams with hot plby Jim Hyla - Hockey

marty Al DeFlorio marty Al DeFlorio Trotsky Just end in a tie after 60. I prefer a traditional overtime, but your suggestion beats what we now have. I remember stories repeated in the early 70's that in games which OT expired without a score that opposing coaches occasionally agreed to an additional OT. Trotsky dbilmes Some nasty stuff going on with Michigan program, which was heavily criticized for pulling out of the second game of the Great Lakes Tournament earlier this year. billhoward As of Saturday, Cornell is the one ECAC top-four team with 0 shootout wins. The top four in the standings and the only four with ECAC winning records are 1. Quinnipiac 2. Clarkson 3. Cornell 4. Harvard We can beat Quinnipiac but it's not easy and the same goes with Harvard. Scersk '97 TrotskyThank you for that informative post, Scersk. It's worrisome because we have no additional information about whether he's isolating (nor are we entitled to any obviously) so people tend to fear the worst. Scersk '97 Trotsky Is 3x3 just for Covid or is this going to be The New Stupid even afterwards, like the NL DH? Seems like a lot of leagues (not necessarily NC$$) are using the emergency to push through a lot of garbage. Dafatone Jim Hyla Trotsky Shane bobbles saves and leaves a metric shit ton of rebounds. I keep expecting him to be absolutely lit up but the only time it's happened was Princeton. It's like he has such great positioning it makes up for having bad hands, which you'd think would be pretty suboptimal for a goalie. Funny, I was thinking that Howe left a ton of rebounds, metric or not. I'll gby Jim Hyla - Hockey
