Re: Cornell 2008-2009 Ivy League Men's Basketball Champions - 15 years ago
At the very least, at least we shouldn't have to play a team with two (2!) starting seven-footers. I generally root for Duke, but that wouldn't be the worst matchup for us. I'd love to see us in a matchup with another shooting team.by BCrespi - Other Sports
Re: Alumni in the Pros - March 2009 - 15 years ago
Yes, and Chara was clearly giving him a lot of the credit for the goal. He definitely pointed at Bitz and rubbed his helmet when they came together to celebrate. There aren't too many guys in the league that can make Bitz look small.by BCrespi - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2008-2009 Ivy League Men's Basketball Champions - 15 years ago
Well, good to hear he's coming back. I guess I was confused by all of the eligibility implications of his transfers. Looks like we should have a very deep team next year.by BCrespi - Other Sports

GermDon't know if it's been said or not but we're the first Ivy League school other than Penn or Princeton to repeat as champs since Dartmouth in '58-'59. And assuming nobody goes pro we'll have the nucleus of our team back next year. Yes, this ran on "The Bottom Line" for some of the Ivy League champ's annual 24-hour news cycle relevance. I'll be very interested to see what theby BCrespi - Other Sports

sah67I was at MSG this afternoon (practically morning with the time change), and Bitz played a very solid game in Boston's 4-3 loss. Interestingly, he played center for most of the game on a line with PJ Axelsson and Shawn Thornton, and did decently on draws. He was also given a lot more responsibility than in the past, seeing significant time on the PK and in a 4x4. Despite his time on theby BCrespi - Hockey
Re: Union 2, Cornell 5 - Senior Night (final) - 15 years ago
KeithKTom ToneA shame we don't play Brown on Friday since they had 3 players DQ'd for fighting against QU. I guess. But this team really shouldn't need that kind of help to beat the last place team in the league. (Not taking anything for granted but...) Of course, it would be nice to have some of Brown's brawlers not out there to cause problems.by BCrespi - Hockey
Re: Shane Hynes? - 15 years ago
RobbJDeafvShane Hynes is back at Cornell finishing his degree, his professional hockey career is over.Bummer for him, but good for him. Hope he does well in his regular career. Agreed. That's really too bad. I really think he would have added the physical presence and offensive talent that could have put the 05-06 team over the top. That said, it's always good to hear that guys come back toby BCrespi - Hockey

Re: Cornell 2 Quinnipiac 1 (Postgame Thread) - 15 years ago
Chris '03ebilmes Riley Nash needs to pass more. Looks to me like he's almost always looking to pass. He's just being very selective and possibly giving the other team's defense too much credit. He may be better off just shooting more than holding holding holding waiting for the perfect passing lane to materialize. I completely agree. Re: Cornell-Princeton Post-game - 15 years ago
gonyrThis felt like a real gut-punch. The game seemed well in hand, if a bit tight. Cornell was definitely carrying play for the first 50 minutes. Even after the first Princeton goal, it seemed like OT, and probably a tie, was fairly well assured. Then, instant flashback to the undergrad years and that horrible empty feeling in the pit of my stomach. This ends my personal four year winning strby BCrespi - Hockey

Thanks guys. I promise, my Google's not broken, I just looked up Armand, not Armond, as the earlier post stated, and it was certainly not a searched enough query to help me out, in that regard.by BCrespi - Hockey

Re: Interesting Goalie Pad Concept - 15 years ago
ftyuvTrotskyftyuvI think someone should design goalie pads in conjunction with Japanese scientists. That might be the worst place to wear your invisibility cloak. Not if done correctly. Make the front of the blocker invisible-enabled, but not the back or side... that way the shooter won't be able to see where your blocker is as easily, but when you're down scurrying for the rebound it's just likeby BCrespi - Other Sports
Re: Revenues from Div I Hockey Teams - 15 years ago
Chris '03CowbellGuyAll teams do. I definitely echo your sentiments about ND. This is something I've wondered about. In the past I'm pretty sure Schafer has been quoted in the press saying that the athletic department needs him to have X home games for revenue purposes. Wouldn't two games at satisfy the need for revenue (even less the expenses of travel) of two home games vs. Army and SHU if alby BCrespi - Hockey

cbuckserJeff Hopkins '828 goals, 10 assists and 47 PIM in 45 games so far this season. Hmm. I think you are being unfair, Jeff. He is the youngest guy on the team (excluding two players who have played five games between them). I expect he'll put up much better numbers in his age-18 season. In addition, he has the skill set to help execute the puck-possession game. As I mentioned last moby BCrespi - Hockey

Re: Polls 1/12 - 15 years ago
Flyers1037finchphilIf I read the poll correctly, the IVY League has as many teams (4) in the top 20 as the Big 10! If there was a Big 10 in hockey, I would agree. Yes, but same can be said for the Ivy League. I think that's the point.by BCrespi - Hockey

Jim HyladbilmesJim Hyla Guess who has the best +/- for CU. Seminoff and our own B. Nash with +9. They are followed closely by Mugford and R. Nash with +7. Wonder why they get PK? Yes I know +/- doesn't pertain to PK and I'm mixing stats, but since coach sees fit to put him in PK and he doesn't seem to hurt us in +/-, I think we could say he's a big help to the team. Re: Cornell Hockey To Hold Jersey Auction - 15 years ago
TimVMy guess is the numbers have no significance - they were just the numbers that came with those awful jersies. Wanting to get rid of these dogs, some clever person thought that by adding nameplates of The Heroes they could foist them off on the likes of us. And they're probably right. I'm sorry, I definitely meant the names were picked by the players the first time as well. At least, thaby BCrespi - Hockey
Re: Cornell Hockey To Hold Jersey Auction - 15 years ago
RichHGive My RegardsGlad I'm not the only one who remembers Dan Ratushny. I feel younger now This auction seems like it might have had its roots in something Coach Schafer had his players do in his first year as head coach; research and write up a blurb on the best Cornell player ever to wear their number. (I don't know if Coach Schafer had his later teams do this) I mention it in part becaby BCrespi - Hockey
Re: Ithaca eating suggestions, pre-game? - 15 years ago
fullofgasThe Plantation on rte. 366 has great bar food and is just up the road from Lynah. Strongly recommended. And don't forget to do a couple of shots for good luck! I'm as big a proponent of walking (rather than driving) as the next guy, but you might want to temper those rounds of shots! CowbellGuyTrotskyCowbellGuyandyw2100Thoughts? WHCU sucks.Be nice. Well, maybe you were being nice. IMHO, Jason's perfectly adequate. Re: Cornell 2 UMass 0 period 1 - 15 years ago
You know, I usually save my criticism of announcers for Joe Morgan and Tim McCarver, and I usually find Jason serviceable enough. However, would it be too much to ask for the occasional description of a save/shot? Especially when there is a stoppage following said save. It's relatively infuriating to hear him go nuts about a save, and say nothing about its particulars. Anyway, back to your reby BCrespi - Hockey
