Milo signs with Yankees - 14 years ago
Pretty cool story as Milo will sign with the Yankees (since his UVM baseball career has been prematurely ended, whether he likes it or not) but will play out his senior hockey season and presumably join the Yankees system after. I'll update this as more information is released about the arrangement. Good for him and the Yankees for figuring out this arrangement. Now if only they canby BCrespi - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82vance0?Jeff Hopkins '82I posted to the blog: Football: Pop Warner (alt. Marinaro) Wildcards: Dryden, Nieuwendyk, Bruce Arena, Schaap, Robert Trent Jones. While Robert Trent Jones was certainly a great golf course architect, and the RTJ Trail in Alabama is a fun set of courses, he's not notable as a player. Joe Posnanski, one of the greatest sports writers in the country, is undertaking an interesting exercise on his blog. In it, he's looking to pick out the greatest athlete for a university in the "Big 3" sports (football, basketball, baseball) as well as any sports-related wildcards. These usually would include the other sports, as well as sports-related alums (e.g. writers, coaches,by BCrespi - Other Sports

Luke 05Clearly Tom Hicks loves Cornell grads...Jon Daniels '99 is the GM of the first place Texas Rangers. I thought of this too. However, is Joe N. technically a grad? I believe he left after his junior year. Did he finish up at any point?by BCrespi - Hockey
Re: Final Four Tickets - 15 years ago
KillerDamn, with all these fees they're charging, I think I'll drive down there tomorrow and buy directly from the box office. Even if gas were still $4/gal, I'd come out way ahead. Ticketmaster: Contributing to global climate change one service charge at a time.by BCrespi - Other Sports
Re: Fond retirement wishes to Dave Nulle - 15 years ago
upperdeckjust a thought but what does retiring have to do with continuing to drive the zamboni? i would do it for free if it got me into the games. Unfortunately the ice needs to be resurfaced MANY more times than just the 3 times in an average men's game. I anticipate that aspect of the job had a bit more to do with easing towards retirement (aside: I assume he also drove the resurfacer muchby BCrespi - Hockey

pfibigerBeeeej...and now CHN follows with their predictions as well, with Cornell at #4 (pending other information, obviously): This article: makes it sound like the Oilers (and the author of the article) expect Riley to play his junior year at Cornell. ajc69two years ago I ended up 2 rows in front of the band, I don't think my hearing has ever come back hopefully that doesn't happen again We stood directly in front of the band for two years at Lynah. Best seats I ever had! The 400s are fine, though it's tough to see the near end if you're behind the goal because of the severe overhang. I'd try to avoid those, unless you're in the front roby BCrespi - Hockey

KeithKBCrespiRatushnyFanYou need to be able to beat the Ducks if you expect to win the Cup. The Ducks are better with Jonas Hiller in net and the late season tinkering seems to have worked. I like Getzlaf and Bobby Ryan a lot, they both skate hard all the time. Defensively they've improved as well, even though they dumped Montador (I thought he was a solid contributor). tretiaki like how they casually ignore the most infamous place the cup has gone...a nyc strip club. mark messier is an absolute dinkbag More infamous than Dunbars? (note: I love Dunbars) I have to think it's been through worse than hanging out at a strip club.by BCrespi - Hockey
Re: MLax: Princeton 7 @ Cornell 10 (Final) - 15 years ago
semsoxThis whole argument reminds me of the Eagles game this past season (or maybe it was the year before?) where the Eagles were up late in the 4th, and Westbrook caught a ball with a wide open field in front of him, and he got down to the goal line and took a knee, thus essentially sealing the win. The Eagles could just take a knee to run out the clock. The alternative was to take the 7 pointby BCrespi - Other Sports
Re: NHL favorite team straw poll - 15 years ago
reilly83Current favorite NHL team: Sabres. Before that in reverse chronoloical order: Panthers, Leafs, Devils, Stars, and Flames. By this logic, shouldn't you be rooting for the Leafs now that Joe N. is back with them?by BCrespi - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: NHL favorite team straw poll - 15 years ago
Big Rangers fan and feel odd that we seem outnumbered by Caps fans on this board! Psyched for the playoffs, though I'll hate rooting against Ovechkin (though I'm sure that'll go away very quickly on Wednesday).by BCrespi - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: The Abbotts - 15 years ago
KeithKRitaI have gotten used to the ad-filled jerseys, but not the face-off dots. Gee, I wonder if European futbol will go that route; ads in the penalty area and in the midfield circle. Might be a way to raise more $$ in this economy. Are those actual ads on the ice? (Looks like it to me.) You could certainly superimpose ads on the TV image ala the down indicators and first down line in NFL tby BCrespi - Hockey

Al DeFloriolynah80Will Cornell by the ECAC favorite for next year? One can only wonder what the "key role" was the injured Devins played in "Cornell's NCAA regional final run." I think their key role was being from New England.by BCrespi - Hockey

Rich Ssah67Rich S Or is it just another example of the feeling that you dislike posters from another school on your board? I like Bemidji...unlike other schools in frozen wastelands, Bemidji has at least risen all the way to second-rate status. Still drinking the Al D Kool Aid I see. Re: Speed Game - 15 years ago
minsrg1The Cornell team overall is a poor skating team and pretty short on talent. Is poor skating one of the team's problems? Doesn't Cornell own one of those few skating treadmills in the country? (I seem to remember watching a video about it). In any case, I'm not disagreeing with you, but was just wondering. If I bought a skating treadmill, I doubt it would make me and twenty of my frienby BCrespi - Hockey
Re: I hate to say this, but... - 15 years ago
I understand what you're saying but I think the most important point of my argument is: who has done better? We all agree that we can't recruit on a year-to-year basis with the mega-powers, so maybe, for sustained success and several chances at the frozen four we're doing a pretty good job on that front. Of course you try to add some finishers to the mix as much as possible, but I'd be much hapby BCrespi - Hockey
Re: I hate to say this, but... - 15 years ago
HockeyMan No one is saying you need a run-and-gun style, but you do need some offensive flair. The game has changed, and you can no longer win merely by recruiting tree trunks and grinders. If Yale can build a team with considerable speed and skill, surely we can too. All season long, the lack of finishing was painful to observe. Lauren '06ugarteKillerHow is it that Dick Cheney isn't among the candidates? Or is he just the de facto Grand Pubah of All Things Evil? You could fill a bracket with people who go by the name "Dick". Re: Cornell-Yale ECAC championship postgame - 15 years ago
lynah80ugarteJim HylaKeithKJim HylaOne thing I was very surprised about were that some of the boarding calls were not 5 min hitting from behind. Yale got 2 in second period. By the time Riley's came in the third I was glad none were called. His was quite blatant. Maybe they didn't want to eject anyone, but some were not so subtle.
