jtwcornell91 ETA: Wow, what a bunch of assholes on that board. Whew! If they have such little respect for Cornell, it makes you wonder what triggered this diatribe. Why would they even bother whining about a pushover? Good locker room wall stuff, if they meet again in a few weeks.by ninian '72 - Hockey
Re: OT - New CU Prez - 18 years ago
JerseygirlCornell doesn't give out honorary degrees, therefore, the keynote commencement speaker is always the president. The fancy/famous person traditionally given the honorary degree at most other colleges and universities gives Cornell's convocation speech. That's the one of which you're thinking. And it was Bill, not Hillary. Also, the graduation speaker hasn't always been the President.by ninian '72 - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Cleary Cup - 18 years ago
jtwcornell91Trotskyjmh30Unfortunately, if ties were broken this way, we'd lose the two Ivy titles we shared with Dartmouth (in 1971 and 1990) by virtue of having lost to the Green those two years. We'd still have the one we shared with Penn in 1988, since we beat them that year. So the question is, would you rather have 3 (or 1.5) shared titles, or 1 Unabashed Championship. I guess it won'tby ninian '72 - Hockey

billhowardIf Ned Harkness were still here, he'd probably have the steps to the visitor locker room have 6 inches of rise. And then every third step would be 8 inches or 4-1/2 inches, masked by extra padding under the rubber that collapsed when you stepped on it. And the visitor locker room thermostat would have two settings: 40 and 40, centigrade and fahrenheit. Paint the walls pink, and add a loby ninian '72 - Hockey

TrotskyLots of blather all day on the sports radio circuit about the supposed grand gesture of Kwan stepping aside. I thought the whole operetta across as a cynical effort to pump up NBC's ratings and that quitting rather than embarrass yourself is hardly worthy of the accolades of sportsmanship (it would have been truly sporting to just accept that you weren't going in the first place rather thby ninian '72 - Hockey

Beanpot win bumps BU up into 4th place PWR tie with Cornell. BC right behind in 6th. No matter what happens tomorrow night, looks like we can kiss top four good-bye for now.by ninian '72 - Hockey

Chris '03Jeff Hopkins '82As of 11:30, with a 3,2,1 Cornell is tied with Miami at #3. Based on the comparison Miami gets 3 and we get 4, but I'll take that Cornell ends the night at .5524. An hour later, make that .5514, tied for third with Miami, bonus or no bonus.by ninian '72 - Hockey

Re: St. Lawrence at Cornell postgame thread (1/20/06) - 18 years ago
Agreed! To amplify on redGrinch's comments, the Caps have already retooled and have a number of project players on board already. Not as if they're looking to unload a lot of expensive contracts and make wholesale roster changes. Did that two years ago. There's a lot of young, raw talent already in the organization, and Sasha's at the end of the queue.by ninian '72 - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Princeton postgame thread 1/14/06 - 18 years ago
Almost sounds as if Gadowsky is taking a page from the Princeton style of basketball - lots of perimeter shooting, no offensive rebounding, and getting back on defense quickly. Seems to be working better for the hockey team than their basketball team this year.by ninian '72 - Hockey

Tub(a) He was indeed amazing until hurt. Sometimes it takes players a long time to recover from an injury like that, and sometimes they never do. I've been through this one. You can't set a collarbone. You have to immobilize the arm while the broken halves grow some tissue across the gap that eventually calcifies. Usually this means at least 4 months without the kind of physical jolting thby ninian '72 - Hockey

Re: [OT] a whiney Tulane student rant - 18 years ago
Can't find the link now, but I remember reading that architecture studio classes had been fully enrolled at the time Tulane students arrived and that this option wasn't open to them. However, the link below makes it seem as if architecture tried mightily to remedy this with "fill-in" faculty: I can understand some homesickness for Tulane and NO and the whining about Ithaca. This goes for the cowbell, too. At a home game with Brown back when Neil was the maestro, supposedly someone from the Brown team complained and tried to have the bell silenced. Had something to do with the syncopations interfering with their footwork. Probably apochryphal, but nice to believe the bell could have this kind of effect.by ninian '72 - Hockey
