Re: Cornell at RPI - 9 years ago
ajh258 Mike Schafer has done a good job and no one disputes his contributions to the team, but it has been more evident year after year that he should start thinking about passing the torch. Maybe there will be a good season here and there, but bigger picture, fans have lowered their expectations over time and the program has reached a plateau. dag14 Using clickers to take attendance where attendance is part of student grades is idiotic, IMO. Grading attendance in the first place is the clearest sign of a pointless curriculum, a useless or boring professor, or poor standards. BearLover Jim Hyla So after watching last night's game, I have to say, Harvard looks like the real thing. Their offense is very good, their defense is so-so, but if Michalek plays the rest the season like he has started, they will be very difficult to beat. Didn't watch the game, but they were outshot 42-24. Great teams don't get outshot almost 2-to-1. Yale and Union winning the past two yearsby Kyle Rose - Hockey
Re: Attendance at Lynah - 9 years ago
Johnny 5 Not difficult to understand at all. Sorry if I confused you. That wasn't my point. I'm not the one crying about students not showing up. Show up, don't show up...I don't give a rat. Especially if in order for them to show up they have to be allowed to act like a-holes. Ok, then we're agreed. IMO, it makes sense for people to complain about the crowd shouting raunchy things, or abby Kyle Rose - Hockey
Re: Attendance at Lynah - 9 years ago
Johnny 5 So, you're saying the students won't go to games unless they can be obscene, loud or obnoxious?? Well, wah, wah, wah, cry me a river. If you don't give the students the opportunity to have fun the way they want, don't complain when they don't show up. Simple as that. I'll add you to my list of "STFU about students not showing up" and call you out on it next time. Agreed? I lby Kyle Rose - Hockey

KeithK Dafatone Just to do a young old man whine, I actually find just about all the coordinated chants (remote control goalie, you're not a ___, you're a ___, etc) to be kind of lame. Not TOO lame, and the more basic ones (___ university... sucks!, it's all your fault, most variations of a sieve chant) are fun. But I've always been more partial to single witty comments from the crowd, and thosby Kyle Rose - Hockey

Dafatone Same here, except I didn't even make it to a game until Sophomore year. Went with a friend, and we both looked at each other and kinda went "we've been missing THIS?" Got tickets the next two years. That's the same thing that happened to me. Cornell hockey won me over in one game my sophomore year after a friend said, "I can't go tonight: here's my ticket." andyw2100 I'm not disagreeing, but historically that hasn't been much of a problem with the Cowbell cheer at Lynah. I take it you have never been in section G. Ever since my first stint there (probably ca. 2005) the cowbell cheer was in pointless speed-up mode after the first 2 or 3 seconds.by Kyle Rose - Hockey

MattS Attendance is taken from USCHO box scores and I assume the numbers are for "paid" and not "turnstile". Making this almost useless for purposes of judging crowd enthusiasm.by Kyle Rose - Hockey

ithacat Jenner and Saulnier are at another level. Recruiting has slid the past few years and I'm realizing how fortunate we have been with all the talent that came through Cornell. Shame the team couldn't have won that final, the future looks much more like good but not great. Hope I'm wrong. Between that and the Lacrosse finals in 2009 and the Frozen Four in 2003, I'm pretty sure Cornell is prevby Kyle Rose - Hockey
Re: Friday: Princeton 2 Cornell 1 - 9 years ago
Scersk '97 The Princeton goalie played well; we also made him look good. With regard to what other people have said about Hilbrich: the problem is—and this could be said about so many of the other players—that he has some great moves to get free with the puck, but then he makes one too many moves and either ends up behind the net, at a bad angle, or loses the puck completely. BMac They changed the rule due to Leggio anyways: Yeah, that will probably put a stop to it, but so would simply awarding a goal. I feel like that's the more appropriate rule change, especially since there's not even a chance of stopping an awarded goal.by Kyle Rose - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2014 - 9 years ago
Jeff Hopkins '82 CAS Cornell has 2 played drafted this year who are expected to play for the Red next fall - Beau Starrett and Anthony Angello. And Sucks has how many draftees every year? I'll give Schafer a little more credit for utilizing talent than Donato, but the proof is in the pudding. Yeah, I made a similar point last year. Trotsky Lalor was AJHL ROY in 2012-13. He missed almost all of 2013-14 with an injury. He also appears to be a vampire. This season he has moved over to Green Bay in the USHL.Seems more like a child of the corn.by Kyle Rose - Hockey
Re: Throw in the towel? - 9 years ago
KeithK Roy 82 BTW, My 2 cents: Losing itself is no reason tothorw in the towel. Econmics and other priorities maybe. But football is iconic. Especially so for college athletics, at least at schools that aren't masquerading as semi-pro teams. If the program is graduating its student athletes and there aren't significant off field issues then I see no reason that the win-loss record should be impoby Kyle Rose - Other Sports

TimV She probably won't mind the music as much as she'll mind the football. Maybe she can get Pete Carroll after he decides he's had enough of the NFL. Of course, we're more likely to end up with Rich Kotite, who would still probably improve Cornell's program.by Kyle Rose - John Spencer Is Dead

ftyuvThe purists might cry fowl on this argument Ba-COCK! After a bunch of thought, you're probably right that I'm making too much of this.
