Re: Root for small colleges that do well, annoy the NCAA - 16 years ago
billhowardI believe the NCAA has clamped down on other schools being allowed in the future to go D1 in just a single sport. I think it's more that D-III schools won't be allowed to go D-I in a single sport and award scholarships in that sport, save for the few that have been grandfathered in. In hockey, this includes RPI, St. Lawrence, Clarkson, and Colorado College.by Will - Hockey

Peter Natyshak-Sam Paolini Award; Career Improvement - Chris Fontas, I guess. Not a lot of options here, and it's still hard to stick Fontas in here. Randy MacFarlane Award; Transcendent Beauty and Skating Prowess - Riley Nash. Dave Shippel-Greg Hornby Award; Scrappiness and Effort - Tyler Mugford. Larry72Ithaca Journal Article on Topher Scott joining the Elmira Jackal's. I went to the game last night. Topher had an assist on the first Jackals goal (PPG) but was -1 for the night. Too bad Elmira's goalie couldn't stop a puck to save his life in the third period. I saw a few Cornell shirts (besides my own) in the stands as well. Also playing in the game (for the Trenton Devils) waby Will - Hockey

billhowardTShenKeithKJosh '99Riley got pushed around by bigger players some this weekend, in my opinion. If that's a concern for Edmonton, he's not going to put on weight anywhere else any faster than he would here. I suspect most players would bulk up faster on a professional weight training program than they would in school. Nothing against Cornell's training program but not having a prelim tby Will - Hockey

French RageHow will Colgate going instead of Clarkson affect Albany attendance? How much free pizza will the Colgate administration have to give out to get the students to go all the way to Albany? So much so that the Colgate students will be unable to lift that pizza.by Will - Hockey

ugartedbilmesJordan 04Doug '08Hopefully we will have a large fan contingent (as always), because I don't think the band will be there. Last I heard there may be, it just might not be comprised of current undergraduates. why wont the band be there? transportation issue or what? Re: The Athletic Department and Cornell Hockey - 16 years ago
As I see it, the reasoning behind why hockey tickets prices are so exorbitant goes beyond "because they can" into "because they need to". Money taken in from hockey has to pay not just for hockey but for the 35 other varsity sports offered by the university. Most of those sports aren't bringing in any money at all by way of ticket prices. Lacrosse, football, and basketballby Will - Hockey

LaJollaRedBUT here's the catch (and advice to any fans from now on) You can be as loud as you want, but as long as you're not vulgar, there's very little reason to throw you out. If you've overheard us in A, you'll notice that we never cuss, we never shout racist / sexist / bawdy things...We try to be ironic and complicated...I think it gets in the goalie's head better that way! Re: Hahvahd 3 @ Cornell 1 Postgame - 16 years ago
I've been saying for a few weeks now that maybe this team needs to play a series on the road in the postseason, just to see how much it can suck, and hopefully the non-seniors will do everything in their power to make sure it doesn't happen again, win or lose. The presumed series at Union in two weeks would fit the bill exactly. (Of course, this scenario assumes Cornell gets past Dartmouth nextby Will - Hockey
Re: We really need a Brown win - 16 years ago
Chris 02DeltaOne81TimVWe haveta beat Harvard, of course, but if union wins, then we get the #4 seed and have to beat Harvard 2x more to get to Albany. Makes me nervous. Assuming Harvard would get passed Dartmouth in that scenario... heh. Last time we played Harvard at Lynah in the playoffs was my freshman year, and that turned out pretty well. Was your freshman year 1999-2000? Good timeby Will - Hockey
Re: Forget the Fish - 16 years ago
lynah80 Missing in your list of things to bring to a hockey rink are the words stick, helmet, shoulder pads, and, oh, skates, amongst others. Ever tried that? They make for good story telling too. I think this post is totally lame. Let's throw fish and play hockey.by Will - Hockey

Re: O'Byrne Arrested - 16 years ago
RitaIf it was part of a rookie hazing ritual, there are other ways that you can promote team bonding and unity without walking off with someone else's property. Yeah, but sometimes that leads to the cancellation of the rest of the season after taking a certain type of walk. *coughvermontcough*by Will - Hockey
Re: Does anyone understand USCHO Rankings? - 16 years ago
I imagine what you're referring to is the USCHO.com/CSTV Division I Men's Poll, which is precisely that: a poll. 50 people who know their stuff about D-I hockey (largely coaches and reporters, I believe) give their top 20 lists each week, and what you see is the compilation of those results. Collectively, these 50 people mostly think that Cornell is not a top 20 team. I can't say I disagree atby Will - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 at Colgate 1 postgame thread - 16 years ago
BMacBTW, are ALL colgate cheers just Lynah copies? From the TV, it sounded like all they have is "let's go gate" and "and they still suck." Somehow, I doubt that the Lynah Faithful invented either "Let's Go !" or " returns to full strength...AND THEY STILL SUCK!" This still doesn't take away from the fact that Colgate student fans are among the worst fanby Will - Hockey
Re: Soccer Chant - 16 years ago
Interesting. This could potentially work well if one could get all of sections A and B to sing the song at the start of the game. (Of course, that's predicated on the students actually getting to the game on time.)by Will - Hockey
