This is a long shot, but after weeks of somewhat unenthused cheering, I think we need a sustained "Let's Go Red" on Saturday night. Ideally, if we could get enough people on board, we could keep it going the whole game, breaking only for other cheers. It might get a little rough on the voice, but it could be worth it. Imagine the atmosphere that would create. We'd begin at puck drop, and keep it going at all times during play. Maybe Ari (or anybody else) can get it going every time they drop the puck? Post if you're in. If enough people do it, others will catch on.

Wish I was going to be there to join you, I don't know whether it'd work but it'd sure be fun to try. Give it your best shot, and good luck!

That would require Lynah to figure out that "Let's Go Red" doesn't have a tempo change in the cheer. For the past 2 years (at least), the faithful have been speeding up the cheer which makes it unsustainable. If you want a sustained cheer, go on a road game with the alumni in the stands. They know the proper tempo to cheer at.

At this point, I'll put in a plug for the eLynah Cheers Page. If you've got the energy to cheer the entire game, why stick with the same cheer the entire time? Change it up a bit and go for some variety!

I like the idea, maybe if we can alternate sections or sides of the rink so that it would be a bit more feasible for all of the fans.

and here I was trying to give Lynah a little credit...
Many a time I kept cheering at a steady beat while the rest of the crowd went racing away, clapping so fast that you could barely make the words "Let's" and "Red" out. I knew it wouldn't make a difference but I got to feel superior. Plus, it annoyed some of my friends. .

Speaking as one of the two or three students who consistently try to start the cheer in section B, I've found this year to be especially difficult to sustain a "let's go red" cheer for various reasons. First, the more exciting, hard hitting, and offensively explosive a game is, the more the fans are going to be in the game. Our team this year does not dominate, nor produce nearly enough exciting offensive chances to get the crowd going. For those of us who like to think we really know the game well (and say Cornell tends to do a good job in the corners and on board battles), bear in mind that 95% of students don't give a shit about hockey and don't know the difference between a blue line and a clothes line (yeah, Al Michaels).
Secondly, I usually try to get it going as Cornell starts a rush up the ice or has just produced some exciting plays...the biggest problem, however, is that we have a tendency to turn the puck over on breakout plays, or frequently dump the puck and cannot forecheck well enough to retain possession once the zone has been taken. In addition, it's not often that Cornell scores and then continues to dominate play. We generally only score 1 or 2 goals a game and give up about the same amount.
Fans just don't have as much to get excited about, plus crowds have definitely been thiner in B this year than in years past, and winning just makes everyone happier.
Nevertheless, I think the Harvard game will see fans really excited and we'll be able to sustain the cheer. Not so against Dartmouth though, because I think fringe fans will go to the basketball game instead. We don't need Cornell to play well to fire the crowd up for Harvard, it'll just happen.
That and Cornell is going to sweep this weekend and walk away with a first round bye. I say Red 2, Sucks 1.

It's the kids these days. At Stanford basketball games out here it's impossible for the "De-fense" cheers to last more than 15 seconds because it becomes a competition to see who can cheer it the fastest.
I blame rap music and the Myspace.

I think I'm one of the people who is most angry about the whole "speeding up" thing. They can't do "shorthanded" or "frustrated" properly anymore because they do it too fast and don't use the proper, dare I say traditional, tonality. It's frus-traaaaaa-ted and short-haaaaan-ded. Not just frustrated and shorthanded. Don't get me started.

As long as we're having a bitch session. Can we return to the "Go Start The Bus" chant? The currently used "Warm Up The Bus" chant is common in many rinks. I've always perceived Lynah to be uncommonly good. Part of the "goodness" is tradition. Get back to the tradition: "Go Start The Bus".

Which brings us to the burning question: Is it possible that somewhere in the multiverse, a contingent of the Faithful have developed the ability to sustain the cheers, even as they approach infinite speed?

On the other hand, the Doppler red shift would be completely appropriate.
