Re: Next Cornell 30-goal scorer - 20 years ago
There have been no 25-goal seasons in the past 10 years, although Brad Chartrand had 24 in 1995-6. The last 25-goal and 30-goal season was Doug Derraugh in 1990-91 (the "HAD-a-goal" line of Ryan Hughes, Trent Andison and Derraugh). The last "goal-a-game" season was Joe Nieuwendyk in 1986-87. FWIW, I would be surprised if Moulson, or anyone on the team, posted 30 goals nexby CUlater 89 - Hockey
Re: LeNeveu's GAA record in jeopardy? - 20 years ago
A pet peeve of mine is references here and in the media to .400 being a record that will/will not be broken. "Batting .400" is not a record; "the highest batting average in a season" is a record.by CUlater 89 - Hockey
Re: Mark McCutcheon - 20 years ago
has another Cornell forawrd ever played an entire season without scoring? A quick review of TBRW? indicates that it happened twice previously: 1976 John Stornick 29 games 1962 Harvey Edson 18 games More recently, Shane Palahicky was held without a goal in 2001, playing 27 of 33 games.by CUlater 89 - Hockey

Re: Goaltending Recruit - 20 years ago
I assume part of the thought that the goalies were not at their best in the postseason (or at least the NCAAs) relates to the types of goals given up, rather than the stats (particularly because the stats are in large part due to the team defensive system employed). For my part, I agree that LeNeveu could have played better against UNH last year, although I wouldn't blame him for the loss (althoby CUlater 89 - Hockey

Re: Key Injuries, in a Number - 20 years ago
I think Knoepfli could only be considered a disappointment if one thought he would have a major breakout year this season (I think he does have the talent to be a top all-around player in the league). But as others have mentioned, the inconsistent lineups and the inconsistent PP-time he got didn't help his cause. Not to mention that scoring for the team was down overall (compare his season to sby CUlater 89 - Hockey
Re: Mulling over the TBRW Awards - 20 years ago
I guess I don't see Vesce as a possible Natyshak winner. He was already the team's best forward as a junior and one of the 2 or 3 best since he arrived on campus. Although his scoring increased over time, so did the team's offense, perhaps reflecting an opening up of the offense as better supporting players blossomed. I thought of him as a dominant player even as a sophomore -- I'm not sure hoby CUlater 89 - Hockey

Re: Cornells last offensive player - 20 years ago
You also need more than just one player who can play that style. Most of the successful snipers in the ECAC have had linemates able to play that game. One example for Cornell was when McCutcheon moved Ryan Hughes to center the first line with Doug Derraugh and Trent Andison in '90-'91 -- despite the overall defensive style of the team, Derraugh had a 30-36-66 year.by CUlater 89 - Hockey

Re: Miracle on Ice - 20 years ago
Any one care to compare it to the TV movie from '81 starring Karl Malden, Andrew Stevens, Steve Guttenberg and others? In that one, they made a point of showing Brooks telling Eruzione that as captain, it was his job to bear the brunt of Brooks' histrionics. Also, they included Cornellian and super agent Art Kaminsky in the story.by CUlater 89 - Hockey
Re: Are you guys ready to discuss this yet? - 20 years ago
Well, two of those ECAC titles were with players recruited by the previous coach and after that the program nosedived, rebounded to great heights thanks to one class (plus a couple of other players) and is now again in the doldrums. I can see where Facetimer is coming fromby CUlater 89 - Hockey
Re: What is right with us this season - 20 years ago
I can't recall -- and it may never have happened -- a Cornell goalie playing so many of the team's consecutive minutes from the start of his freshman season. 1988? All of the games were started by a freshman (since there were two). In any case, CDA quickly became the only goalie playing and while his numbers on an absolute level may not compare to McKee's, given where the team goaltending aby CUlater 89 - Hockey

Re: What is wrong with us this season? - 20 years ago
Quite frankly, during the off-season, weren't we all discussing our (relatively) low expectations for the team? I thought getting home ice for the playoffs was our realistic goal, and anything else would be gravy. The problem is that the team started off winning, and playing offensively better than expected, thus raising expectations, almost to where they were the last two seasons. Darren is exactly right. WITCHYWOMAN's problem is with the policy in place from Athletics (or with the name "Student section". As a practical matter, however, any alum (or anyone else) can just hire someone to wait on line to buy only one set of tickets anyway, so changing the policy won't necessarily eliminate non-students from the "student sections." At 517 goals, he ranks 27th in NHL history, 1 behind Dale Hawerchuck. Here's an amzing stat, to me at least. He's just 7 behind Bryan Trottier, and he has played about 150 *fewer* games than Trots. Of course, Trottier is about 390 assists ahead of him...by CUlater 89 - Hockey

...some of us don't like either of those cheers, unless they're directed at someone like Harvard (otherwise it seems whiny to me). To me, it seems silly to direct them at someone like Harvard (sort of like the band playing "Underdog" when we're playing against a lousy team), except in the context of trying to be funny, in which case it's only funny if you also perform those cheers agaby CUlater 89 - Hockey
