Re: Dryden in US politics - 7 years ago
Trotsky The Flyers were goons. They may have been a very smart organization, but I watched those teams, and they were goons. The only team even on the same sheet at the time was the Bruins, and it wasn't very close. There were individual cementheads on every team, but only the Flyers went out with the strategy, "beat them up, then beat them." They were a throwback team to the daysby css228 - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Dryden in US politics - 7 years ago
No offense to Dryden, but this article is mostly a collection of bullshit tropes about the 70s Flyers that are demonstrably untrue. They beat people because they were better than everyone else. The team under Shero had tons of future hall of famers, and when they were swept by the Canadians in the finals, it was without their reigning Vezina trophy goalie, and one of their previous season's leadiby css228 - John Spencer Is Dead

Swampy Jim Hyla Jenny Scrivens retires; opting for family over 'dream job' Great article! Now watch. Ben gets a contract with the Islanders, and Jenny and he move back to Brooklyn. So she gets her old job back. But who ever heard of a pregnant goalie? I've never met either of them, but the sound like a lovely (in every sense of the word) couple. Good luck to both of them. Taking away one player from each team would make overtime much more exciting and probably decrease the number of ties. Not ready for 3-on-3 yet, but 4-on-4 should be a no-brainer. BearLover You might be right--I interpreted the post more literally to mean just relentless/scrappy effort for the full 60 minutes--something Schafer preaches in every press conference. For the record, the Royals are poorly managed and make tons of in-game mistakes. Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
BearLover Trotsky So, I know exactly how I want Cornell to play hockey, having now watched the Royals take the Mets apart last night, again, just like they did in the WS. That constant pressure and intensity and keeping your head in every second of the game and scrapping for every tiny advantage and not letting up for an instant; good god, it just shatters lesser teams mentally. billhoward First games of the tournament, two of the four No. 1 seeds are gone: Providence (the 4th 1-seed) goes down 2-1 to Minnesota-Duluth. As long as Providence was in the tournament, Cornell could point to a victory over a really good team back at holiday week. St Cloud State (2nd 1-seed) makes up a 4-2 deficit to Ferris State entering the third, ties at 4, loses 18 seconds into OT.by css228 - Hockey
