Re: Should He Stay or Should He Go 2014 - 10 years ago
It's rather biased to host this poll here. A more accurate barometer would be the amount of attention that the sport gets during the season - I would measure that with a mix of attendance, news coverage, total dollars spent by fans on tickets/gear/away games travel. If I had to guess on this barometer, people still want Schafer around, but it's been on the decline for the past few years.by ajh258 - Hockey
Re: Cornell lax vs. #13 Penn 3/22/14. Win 17-9 - 10 years ago
Giving credit where credit is due for being the only undefeated team left, but our SOS really doesn't look great compared to other top-ranked teams. I guess we'll have a much better idea if they have the chops to go the distance, if they can remain undefeated after playing Syracuse on April 8th. Re: What is your definition of a Successful Season - 10 years ago
BearLover This was not a successful season for the men. Not trying to troll, but I kind of agree. People should have high standards for things they care about, and for the regulars here, Cornell hockey is one of those things. In this context, 2014 was an OK season. Successful to me means an NCAA bid and playing well in the tournament (i.e. not barely getting a bid and get steamrolled duringby ajh258 - Hockey
Re: ECAC Playoffs - quarterfinal pairings - 10 years ago
billhoward kingpin248 The Knights hang on 3-2. Quarterfinal matchups now set: 10 Dartmouth at 1 Union 8 St. Lawrence at 2 Colgate 6 Yale at 3 Quinnipiac 5 Clarkson at 4 Cornell Cornell gets the Clarkson team that had to play 3 games to get to Ithaca. Yale and Quinnipiac will reduce one of two pesky contenders. But if seeds hold to form, we'd be in for a huge battle with Union Friday night inby ajh258 - Hockey

Cop at Lynah As the original creator of this post, I would like to say that Andy has represented Cornell Hockey very well over his 4 years here. Andy provided stability in net, and although not earth shattering numbers in terms of wins and losses, he was steady throughout his career. Andy has one last hurrah in the coming weeks and I wish him and the entire CU hockey team all the best as they sby ajh258 - Hockey

ECAC Playoff Scenario Stats Not sure how scientific/accurate these are, but the odds look good to me as long as Yale gets 5th and we get 4th.by ajh258 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 4 Princeton 1 - 10 years ago
Trotsky dbilmes Too bad we can't play Princeton more often!Careful what you wish for. The 5th place team will play Princeton in the First Round. Match-ups if current standings hold: (12) Princeton at (5) Yale (11) Harvard at (6) Clarkson (10) Dartmouth at (7) RPI (9) St. Lawrence at (8) Brown And if all home teams won the first round: (8) Brown at (1) Union (7) RPI at (2) Colgateby ajh258 - Hockey

Would be interesting if we get into this tiebreak situation: We tie and lose, CLK sweeps and QPC blanks. Everyone ties on head-to-head but CLK will have more conference wins... On the other hand, 1 win and we'll clinch a bye. Weby ajh258 - Hockey

Not sure if the has been mentioned elsewhere: Link to USHL Release Indiana Ice goaltender Hayden Stewart has committed to play college hockey at Cornell University following his USHL career. The 19-year-old has been stellar for the Ice since being acquired in January, posting a perfect 6-0-0 record which included back-to-back shutouts against the Youngstown Phantoms on February 8th andby ajh258 - Hockey

BMac Rule 73 - Interference on the Goalkeeper 73.1 Interference on the Goalkeeper - A player of the attacking team may stand on the goal crease line or in the goal crease, or skate through the goal crease, unless, in the opinion of the official, the player is physically or visually preventing the goalkeeper from defending the goal. Jim Hyla As long as I'm editing, here's the disputed goal, public I hope. Putting what officials saw/didn't see during the review aside, does that count as a goal when you push the goaltender in with the puck?by ajh258 - Hockey

Re: WTF, is Lynah empty?! - 10 years ago
These are some of the most expensive college hockey tickets, the team isn't really top 10 consistently, and there are more options for late night entertainment nowadays in Ithaca. Simple market solution would be to lower student ticket pricing. Don't think T-shirts is a big driver of ticket sales or attendance so probably can cut those. Most loyal fans buy their own separate gear anyways.by ajh258 - Hockey

Re: ECAC 2013-14 - 10 years ago
It's still early and there might be changes to the calculations that might affect how this is going to pan out, but ECAC has had 5 teams in the top 16 for a few weeks already. If the conference could hold it together through the holiday weeks and not lose too many NC games, we might see 5 ECAC teams in the playoffs, which I'd guess would be the first time in a very long time.by ajh258 - Hockey

SLU65 For those of you traveling to the N.C. I offer this in the expectation that it will make your homeward journey from SLU a little quicker: Appleton Arena is on Miner Street which runs north-south To avoid traffic, do not proceed north which takes you to Main St (Route 11), Canton. Re: Cornell 3 St. Lawrence 1: Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence... - 11 years ago
SLU held their own and the game could have easily went the other way. Lots of good chances and good effort by both teams. We definitely out played them as the game went on. Defense is shaping up a bit although it's a far cry from what we usually see under Schafer.by ajh258 - Hockey

Re: Cornell-Ferris State In Progress - 12 years ago
Jim Hyla So now Union's coach, Bennett, is a finalist for the Spencer Penrose Award, otherwise known as national coach of the year. Since their former coach won it last year, it only seems fair that he gets it this year.As much as I dislike another ECAC team getting the spotlight, I do not dislike Union, and the program has won my respect over the years I've been here.
