Re: Interesting article in today's NYT - 13 years ago
I'm going to chime in here, too. I loved my time on the Hill and don't think my college experience could have been any better than what it was. As well, I've made many friends and connections of all ages through our connections as Cornellians - my god father is '87, I go to trivia with Kyle regularly '98, I tailgate with Mark '89, and so forth. That's something that I love about Cornell and itby munchkin - Hockey

Are we surprised? The people doing the bidding and knowing to go on the Cornell Athletics page are people who have been watching, for the most part, only the last 7-10 years of the team.by munchkin - Hockey
Getting to Dartmouth + Roll Call - 13 years ago
Are there any Boston area people driving up to Hanover on Friday? Rather than having a car traveling from NYC make a detour here, I figured I'd see if anyone is going up. To start the roll call: me and Hockeychick470 +1.by munchkin - Hockey
Re: Lynah East roll call - 13 years ago
Jim Hyla I'm alone in Section 13, Row H, Seat 11, but I'll probably stand a lot. You've got Hockeychick470, myself, and one other. We won't let you feel lonely.by munchkin - Hockey

KeithK Stan Baxter The State of Michigan is a unique place, 1 million people came out for the Detroit Red Wings Stanley Cup victory parade a few years ago. Detroit is probably the only major market in North America where hockey is the biggest sport, bigger than even the NFL. Hockey would be bigger than the NFL in other places too if there were more teams like the Lions. The Capitals are the hottby munchkin - Hockey

You're right. I lived with a bunch of the Buds in the 07-08 school year when they were sophomores and last year as seniors, they did very well at the national tournament.by munchkin - Hockey
What your iPhone thinks about Harvard - 13 years ago
Harvard? Wait no, that's not right. If you use an iPhone it seems to think there's a better word than Harvard even if that's what you want to write.by munchkin - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Literature Fans - 13 years ago
Bringing this back into play. I just finished a fantastic memoir: In the Sanctuary of Outcasts. It's about the last Leprosarium in the country and the story of one of the inmates from when the Bureau of Prisons was using half the facility as a minimum security prison after most of the leprosy patients had left. Also then watched the PBS Special about Carville, the leprosarium, on Netflix to leby munchkin - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: The Jersey - 13 years ago
Josh '99 munchkin Brian and I were talking about they jerseys last Saturday at the BU game. We decided this season's jersey would be a collector's item that no one would want to have. And I don't believe for a second that it was intentional,Can something be a collector's item if nobody wants it? Good Question. And, Age, why do you say it was intentional? Re: Shaming students into donating - 13 years ago
Josh '99 munchkin A side note separate from academics: can you measure the financial benefit of meeting your best friends?Judging by the cost of attending a few weddings a year for most of one's 20s and early 30s, I'm not sure "benefit" is the word I would use. Once you get married all those couples get to give you presents, it balances out (kind of..?, maybe..?, no not really). I'by munchkin - John Spencer Is Dead

Josh '99 Kyle Rose FWIW, anyone feeling grateful about receiving financial aid should do some more research on price discrimination, market segmentation, and yield management. The financial aid system is designed specifically to maximize revenue within the constraints of maintaining academic reputation, one element of which is being perceived as egalitarian (e.g., through need-blind policies: juby munchkin - John Spencer Is Dead

A lot of it has to do with rankings in terms of numbers of alums participating. They key thing to recognize is that it doesn't matter how much you give. Even if you only give a single dollar or five dollars or the now common class year amount (ie $19.53 is what my grandma would give) it shows up for percentage of living alums donating. Josh '99 TimV Tim Wilkins column yesterday in the Albany Times Union It's kind of cool, especially at Cornell. It's an atmosphere you don't get at any other level of hockey. Re: Can Paul Rabil Make Lacrosse Sexy? - 13 years ago
He's a lot more confident when he's talking now, and that commercial is really cool. When we were in Freshman Writing Seminar, he wasn't too confident about himself, or maybe he just wasn't too confident about his writing. I wonder if he'll become a household name for Lacrosse the way some soccer players (Beckham, Adu, Donovan) carried their sport to higher popularity.by munchkin - Other Sports

jaywbigred Lastly, I have to say, as an alum, I am disheartened by the lack of die hard spirit I see in this thread, with the complaints about the opponent and the ticket prices. Events like this, regardless of opponent or ticket price, represent a terrific opportunity for us to show our support for the university, the athletic program, and the hockey team. Re: CU's 2010-2011 Schedule - 13 years ago
I'm in the same boat as Hockeychick470. I booked my flights the day before they announced that it really was happening. Only giving 7 weeks notice doesn't really help travel plans when it's over Thanksgiving weekend. As it is I have to fly back to Manchester, NH instead of Logan due to crowded flights. A pit stop is Newark is definitely not worth changing flights.by munchkin - Hockey
