Noel also noted that construction is at least a year out and given the pandemic issues he is comfortable with the timing . He also discussed potential locations with 2 central campus locations in the running. He favors putting it where the field hockey turf currently sits; the President et al prefer the spot east of the soccer field where the shot put, discus, et al throwing happens. Re: Wrestling 2019-20 - 4 years ago
It is my understanding that all Cornell student athletes get flu shots because of the danger of illness running through a team. In addition, Cornell has a lot of international students who traveled home for winter break. And the red shirt wrestlers who competed in international tournaments and then returned to Ithaca to train with their Cornell teammates. So Koll's observation may not be that fby dag14 - Other Sports

Before the expansion, there were three locker rooms, a trainers' room, video room and office space downstairs. Trainers, video and all offices other than the rink manager moved upstairs with the team locker rooms, leaving square footage to be allocated elsewhere although I haven't personally toured the area since the reno occurred. Fortunately OSU gave us back the ball almost as many times as we lost the faceoff. But for their 25+ turnovers and poor man-up , it might have been a very different game. In addition, their goaltender found his game in the second half -- maybe as late as the 4th quarter -- when he started making saves on some point blank shots. Chase's stats suggest that he may have had issues seeing the ballby dag14 - Other Sports

I realize that the doc refers to 2008; however, the Trustees, et al were in favor of moving athletics off campus way before that. Coming up with a precise alternative location didn't happen until this millennium.by dag14 - Other Sports

Re: Indoor Practice Facility - 4 years ago
It has been a while since I sat in on athletics advisory council meetings and similar events but I recall that the long-term master plan for campus has new athletics facilities moving away from central campus. This is controversial but the expansion of academic buildings makes it harder to accommodate both kinds of activities there. That is one reason why Gates Hall looms over Hoy Field -- Hoyby dag14 - Other Sports

ENG to make the final 3-0. Posted stats say shots were 39-13 but that doesn't reflect the time of possession. Dartmouth also had 26 blocked shots to Cornell's 7.by dag14 - Hockey

Hey, I am class of '72 and American and I have had similar experiences with medical procedures and doctor's appointments. It is a fact of life once you get to the point where you need bone density tests and colonoscopies to go along with your annual physical, and flu shots. If you need something like knee replacement surgery, you usually aren't in a position to negotiate as to when the procedurby dag14 - Hockey

In my opinion, this is the best team I have seen since I graduated in 1972. I left town to go to grad school but got my grownup season tickets in 1976 so while I haven't seen every team play regularly over the last 51 years, I have seen most of them.by dag14 - Hockey

Sorry, after 40 years of teaching Cornell undergrads I have to disagree. And it isn't the students with poor grades who cause problems these days. It is the students who get a B+ instead of an A. "I worked really hard." "I studied all night." And sometimes "I always go to class." But whatever the lead in, the next question is..."So why didn't I get an A?&qby dag14 - Hockey

The rink will be unfamiliar but it isn't bad from a player's perspective. The women played there last weekend and managed just fine. The issue is spectator seating I think. I have never been there but it clearly doesn't have the capacity of Cheel or Lynah, or even Appleton which is pretty small.by dag14 - Hockey

Re: What a difference in this generation! - 4 years ago
I laughed when I read the article. The cease and desist letter reminded me of the first published lawsuit involving a Tweet. A disgruntled tenant Tweeted “Who said sleeping in a moldy apartment was bad for you? Horizon Realty thinks it’s okay.” The landlord brought a libel action asking for $50,000 in damages and the conflict went viral. Nobody ever heard of Horizon Realty before the lawsuit;by dag14 - John Spencer Is Dead

Speak for yourself. I care about Cornell baseball and have since before I cared about Cornell hockey or lacrosse. The debate about athletics v. academics occupying central campus real estate doesn't really center on any particular sport. It is just easier to move a field than a building to somewhere else. nshapiro I think it is worth pointing out that anyone willing to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to get their kid into 'the right school' is not doing it to set up that kid's future. That kid probably has a trust fund that has him set for life. They are doing it so that they can brag about it to their superficial friends.
