Re: Cornell lacrosse 2023 - CU recruits rank vs top schools - 1 year ago
I know the Pannell back story well: I was his faculty advisor at Cornell.... I remember serving on a panel during Trustee Council weekend with Dave Petramala in his first or second season in which we discussed the challenges of recruiting in the Ivy League. I didn't know him well at that time but I was particularly impressed with his candor as he noted that Cornell might not be the best fitby dag14 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2023 - CU recruits rank vs top schools - 1 year ago
I don't believe Rob Pannell was even ranked by IL so I take all of the above with a grain of salt. And it is important to remember that lax is a team game. Ten people on the field who are willing and able to support each other is likely to guarantee success more often than having ten selfish AA's on the field.by dag14 - Other Sports

I saw a photo of Jake MacDonald with his dad and the Stanley Cup so the fact that he was rostered but did not play in the Finals apparently was enough for him to be seen as deserving of a day with the Cup. Way to go Jake!by dag14 - Hockey

My kids played high school lacrosse from about 1996-2005 and only the goalies wore chest protectors. I am pretty sure most guys wore shoulder pads but they were dinky compared to those used in hockey.by dag14 - Other Sports
Re: Ertel to OHL - 1 year ago
I don't know anything about Ertel but it also may be that he realized that college was not right for him while trying to prepare for a career playing hockey. Had he transferred elsewhere in the NCAA you might be able to argue it was because of dissatisfaction with the Cornell program. The OHL suggests a different motivation.by dag14 - Hockey

I think Ben DeLuca has just as much right as Connor Buczek or any other Cornell lax player to quote Richie Moran. After all, he played for the guy, he coached at Cornell for several years, including his stint as head coach, and he interacted with Moran on a regular basis during their years at Cornell. In his interviews he has always given Richie credit for shaping his coaching philosophy. Nowby dag14 - Other Sports
Re: 2022 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament Thread of DESTINY - 1 year ago
The article got one fact wrong: Ben DeLuca was a biochem and nutrition major, not a business major. But this demonstrates another benefit of a Cornell education -- access to a vast network of alumni who can help you get a job on Wall St. if you want one.by dag14 - Other Sports

The Sun provides a reasonable explanation. It wasn't that the architect/engineers/geology faculty didn't know the bedrock was there, rather NY State wasn't making enough money available to pay the cost of excavating the extra 3 feet. NYS Dormitory Funds are responsible for a huge number of new/newer Cornell buildings and the grants invariably come with conditions so Cornell may not have had theby dag14 - Other Sports

If you look at the video of Ierlan's goal, Piatelli and the goalie both jump for the ball and it is redirected into the net. Apparently it hit the goalie stick rather than John's; hence the goalie goal.by dag14 - Other Sports

Final exams are underway, including tests scheduled for this past weekend. I suspect this had a lot to do with attendance and Cornell media coverage. And the weather sucked. Why go out in the rain, thunder and lightning when you have ESPN? The Sun barely covers any Cornell athletics team other than men's hockey, especially when they are not "publishing." The Sun only "publisby dag14 - Other Sports
Re: 2022 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament Thread of DESTINY - 1 year ago
The reasons for Ben's departure were not that simple. Andy Noel did not blame it on his handling of the hazing/partying incident. There was something else at issue that has never been publicly disclosed although there has been a tremendous amount of speculation over the years. We may never know what actually prompted his termination since the parties have no reason to share the details with usby dag14 - Other Sports

I didn't watch the game and after just a little of the WHCU broadcast, I decided I couldn't deal with that either. So I had to rely on the updating of the stats. Needless to say, early on I was just as happy that I hadn't paid to see the game but of course the Cardiac Kids did it again, coming from behind to pull it out. Howie lives and works in NYC so if his color commentary is missing at a game, it means he couldn't make the trip. Tom Lafalce -- a Cornell employee who also does a great job -- is the other regular color guy. He was at Colgate I believe.by dag14 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell lacrosse 2022 - 2 years ago
I am not passing judgement on the Cornell coaching staff or the players involved in taking faceoffs because I know they all are working as hard as they can and are doing their best to succeed in both winning faceoffs and in winning games. And the team is consistently good at maximizing their ability to win groundballs, including in a faceoff situation. That is a statistic that the coaching stafby dag14 - Other Sports
