Re: Cornell - Brown - 5 years ago
I was at that Army game, and waited outside by the bus afterward to give a care package to the player who lived with my family. Needless to say, the care package did not get on the bus. The guys didn't look at any of the waiting fans, let alone stop to talk, as they went to the bus.by dag14 - Hockey

Ithaca native Matt Hedge was called up from the club team. Can't remember the year. Before 2009, though.by dag14 - Hockey

Re: Women's Hockey 2018-19 - 5 years ago
RPI takes a penalty, they should expect to see Cornell's standard power play, even late in the game. Had they been skating 5 on 5 in the closing minutes, the lines might have been different. I watched the game but wasn't paying that close attention to the ice time.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: Women's Hockey 2018-19 - 5 years ago
The women also cruise past RPI 5-0. They have outscored their last three opponents 17-0. Clarkson in Potsdam next weekend will be a closer contest I suspect.by dag14 - Hockey

Apparently The Sun has trouble attracting reporters in the digital era and to keep people on staff, they get to do pretty much whatever they want. Which I guess means they don't have to cover sports on the weekend unless they feel like it. The men's hockey staff is very dedicated, which is why there was coverage during break, blogging during games and stories on the website immediately afterby dag14 - Other Sports

Re: Opponent News 18-19 - UMass payroll - 5 years ago
Cornell absolutely does distinguish between tuition and fees....When my first child entered CALS in 2000, fees constituted about half of the non-housing/dining bill we had to pay. Which took us by surprise and therefore required loans since we had only budgeted to pay room and board thinking "tuition" was free. I started at Cornell in the 70's so my kids went to school tuition free.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: Opponent News 18-19 - UMass payroll - 5 years ago
Cornell does give a tuition benefit to the children of its employees, at least it did when my kids were in college in the early 2000's. It is not 100% of the cost of college and the amount of the benefit depends on when the employee started working at Cornell. I believe you currently need to be employed full time for 10 years before the benefit vests and the benefit can be applied to other schoby dag14 - Hockey

My point was by default guys would often play together for an entire year, making it more likely that the "correct" choice would be to leave them together.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: 2019-01-05: Cornell 2 Quinnipiac 2 (ot) - 5 years ago
Remember, too, that freshmen couldn't play varsity when Ned coached so the possible line combinations for each incoming class were more limited. By default a line could be pretty well established when the players moved to varsity.by dag14 - Hockey

For extra credit, just what are the duties of those guys at the table during the game? Announcer/official scorekeeper Timekeeper/person running the clock Someone to help with penalty clock and/or keep track of stats like shots on goal depending on the experience/competence of the scorer and time keeper Friends of the above who can sneak in and take advantage of room at the tableby dag14 - Hockey

Forgot about 4 Nations. Explains a lot. I mute the stream to avoid the annoying announcers but that also means I miss some information worth knowing.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: Women's Hockey 2018-19 - 5 years ago
I just realized that no one posted the women's Harvard/Dartmouth results. They won fairly handily against each opponent. Last night they came from behind to beat Yale 4-3. I am not sure if we were sloppy around our own net or the Yale goals were the result of deflections that we were powerless to control. Hard to tell when watching on a screen. In any event, we looked better at home last weeby dag14 - Hockey

I am pretty sure that Colgate coach Don Vaughn was an assistant while Kent was at Cornell. I suspect that relationship has something to do with Ethan's decision.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2018 - 5 years ago
Knight got a penalty for slashing so he left the game to serve his penalty. The ESPN announcers missed it all; I am not sure they ever acknowledged that fact. With regard to the end-of-game flag, it was a brilliant move to be satisfied just tying up the attackman on the ground -- until Cornell touches the ball, they play on. Someone on Laxpower suggested that penalty was on the attackman fby dag14 - Other Sports

I thought it was worth it at $25 but it is definitely worth it at $10! And I do have an interest -- a couple of my photos from the 1980's made the cut.by dag14 - Hockey

Re: Cornell lacrosse 2018 - 6 years ago
At one point, Knight was behind the goal going after a ground ball and he got hit pretty hard. No penalty, though. I was watching with no sound and wasn't paying close enough attention to see whether/when he left the game.by dag14 - Other Sports

There is apparently no video capability at the field where they are playing, which makes no sense. not sure what that means -- that the neutral venue can't/won't provide a crew?by dag14 - Other Sports
Re: Quinnipiac QF - 6 years ago
I just remember that Brock Tredway '82 and John Olds '81 were on the team at the time which is why I guessed "early 80's." I arrived at Cornell in the fall of 1968, left for a couple of years to go to grad school and have been back in Ithaca since 1976. So I have been watching Cornell hockey games for 50 years. I am just thankful that I can remember any of the details!by dag14 - Hockey
