Re: Harvard @ Cornell Saturday - 6 weeks ago
Schafer’s brief comments on game 1: “We had a good first 30 minutes and did a pretty good job in the second period, and by the third period, we didn't start poorly, but the goal they got to make it 4-2, they got some push. We handled it okay at times and we didn't handle it okay, but the guys know we can be better than we were tonight," said Mike Schafer '86, the Jay R. Bloom '77 Head Coaby sah67 - Hockey

Re: ECAC Playoffs 2024 - 6 weeks ago
arugula Biggest takeaway:will Jimmy Rayhill get through four years without ever playing? Has that ever happened? Will coach find a game to get him in? Misha Song comes to mind, although I don't think he was "officially" on the team roster his senior year. I also believe he did "dress" for 1 or 2 games, but never actually got on the ice.by sah67 - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs RPI, 2 March 2024 - 8 weeks ago
VIEWfromK I’m guessing that Bancroft learned a pretty important lesson today. Luckily all that it cost them was a shutout. I saw him storm off down the tunnel after the RPI goal…I thought it was an injury situation, but I’m guessing he was the one responsible for the giveaway that led to the goal?by sah67 - Hockey

marty I couldn't catch the radio broadcast. Who was benched on Saturday because of Friday's poor play? Fegaras, apparently. Mosko looked really solid (again) in his place on the blue line, and Schafer gave him some of Fegaras’s PP time as well. O’Brien was in the “7th D” role with Donaldson out.by sah67 - Hockey

pjd8 Am surprised to hear the Clarkson band was badly outnumbered. They were really strong in the 80s. I believe Clarkson was on a “February break” that weekend, hence the weak student showing overall (not just the band).by sah67 - Hockey

Re: Cornell @ St. Lawrence, 2/24 - 2 months ago
chimpfood The announcers seemed adamant that it should be a suspension but they were wrong about a lot of things… One of the two clowns seemed eager to suspend our shootout participants for “slowing down too much.”by sah67 - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ St. Lawrence, 2/24 - 2 months ago
Dafatone If Schafer does get suspended for banging a stick against the boards, that could be a problem next week. I’ve seen him do it at Lynah a couple of other times this season when he was hot about something and couldn’t get the refs’ attention (and I’ve seen opposing coaches do it too with no apparent consequences.) Definitely just another in a long list of nothing burgers that the SLU drunby sah67 - Hockey

Re: Cornell @ St. Lawrence, 2/24 - 2 months ago
Dafatone My sanity versus these announcers is the battle now. You can absolutely lift a stick and keep it tied up for the half a second that a guy is trying to shoot. The audible sneeze into the mic was the last straw for me.by sah67 - Hockey

The ultimate homer announcer move: yelling “YES!!” when your team ties it late.by sah67 - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the pros 23-24 - 2 months ago
Trotsky I think Rego does it more traditionally, rotating up on a particular set play, while Robertson is continually at the ready to join the play as a fourth forward, like Ray Bourque, Denis Potvin, and Larry Robinson played. I've seen Kempf jump in on the play pretty often too, although he definitely lacks the offensive abilities of Robertson (or Rego - who I still feel is getting more powerby sah67 - Hockey

Jacob MacDonald was profiled by a San Jose fan site as a model for the future of "position-less hockey" due to his versatility in shifting back and forth between forward and defenseman, even during a single game. Lots of good quotes from his coach (David Quinn) on that role as well:by sah67 - Hockey
Re: Brown vs. Cornell 2/16 - 2 months ago
dbilmes Was it a prayer circle? Has it happened at other games this season? Definitely haven’t seen it during this season. The Brown goalie initiated it and was clearly looking for O’Leary.by sah67 - Hockey
Re: Brown vs. Cornell 2/16 - 2 months ago
Anyone know what the weird little center ice prayer circle thing between O’Leary, Fegaras, and a couple of Brown players right after the handshakes was about?by sah67 - Hockey

BearLover Do you guys watch much NHL? 3x3 OT is still really fast paced and exciting in the NHL. In college it’s a little slower, but there are still many more great scoring chances per minute than in regulation. Frankly, it’s very exciting for the casual fan, and it’s still exciting for the jaded enfranchised fan like me as well. The same goes for shootouts, though to a lesser degree. I'veby sah67 - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Harvard, 1/26 - 3 months ago
Iceberg I think the nearby ref there straight up missed it. He was focused on the puck and didn't catch the high stick in his line of vision. One of the Harvard announcers posited that Schafer might have asked for the review just to get the refs to realize they missed an obvious call and might "owe us" one later, rather than hoping they would actually call it a major.by sah67 - Hockey

LGR14 sah67 Malinski got sent back down to the AHL to make room for Zach Parise, who just signed with the Avs as a free agent. It wasn't to make room for Parise. He was sent down because Jack Johnson and Bo Byram returned and because the Avs are entering the All Star break. Jared Bednar plans to use Malinski in a rotation the rest of the season. He has firmly established himself as the #7.by sah67 - Hockey

Re: Cornell 3 Quinnipiac 2 (ot) - 3 months ago
VIEWfromK Big Red finally wore them down around the midway point of the third. Penney and Devlin both had some crushing hits. There hadn’t been much physicality early on so it was nice to get that part of their game going in time to turn the tide. That opened up the ice for them to find their offensive game. I was wondering if Schafer emphasized the hitting during the second intermission, beby sah67 - Hockey

scoop85 sah67 Malinski had the GWG (on a power play) in Colorado’s 7-4 win over Ottawa. Video: By all accounts he’s adapting well to the NHL, and is making a case to become a regular in the lineup. From a small amount of time spent browsing Avs fan message boards, the Colorado fan base seems very high on Sam as well.by sah67 - Hockey
