ugarte Jeff Hopkins '82 Update on Bardreau Here What is an ATO (not "what does it stand for" - I can read) in the context of having signed an entry-level contract with the Flyers? I believe an ATO is a way to let him play for the Phantoms for the remainder of the year without burning the first year of his entry-level contract. So ATO+contract really means a 2.2 year contract.by pfibiger - Hockey

So here's the same graph, comparing Cornell to ECAC average scoring. So we're closer to comparing scoring performance against common opponents. It was fascinating to watch ECAC teams pingpong from the top to the bottom of the list. Other than a run of 5 or so years where Yale was always at the top, one year Dartmouth would be #4 in the country, the next year they were #55. Pretty much everyone otby pfibiger - Hockey

RichH pfibiger 2002-2015 scoring offense, cornell vs. d-1 average Thanks very much for doing this, pfibiger. That's the exact data I've craved this week, but didn't have the time/patience to find myself. Be interesting to look at 1) scoring differential vs. just scoring and 2) redoing the graph above with only tourney teams included in the average set. If anyone wants the set of exceby pfibiger - Hockey

KeithK BearLover KeithK There is a downward trend, but it's not that strong. The slope is -0.053 goals per year with a R2 of 0.3351. If I start the data set in 2008 (where visually I might see a little change in the trend) the slope goes to -0.11 with a R2 of 0.5024. (Excel "statistics".) You mean goals per game per year, right? Assuming the rest of the NCAA is constant, even the firsby pfibiger - Hockey

Scersk '97 KGR11 Plus given Trotsky's table, I'd be happy Brent Brekke. It looked like he lined up well with Cornell's success. Both Brekke's and Russell's bios indicate that they worked mostly with the defense; Garrow's indicates that he worked mostly with the offense. The interesting point of inflection happens between the 2007 and 2008 seasons, when Brekke leaves. We go from generally (by pfibiger - Hockey

Re: Should He Stay or Shoul He Go Part 2 - 9 years ago
Trotsky A point I heard brought up on a recent trip to Ithaca was that the staff may be leaning towards adding a couple slots to the roster to cover injuries. Cornell has been running with a fairly short roster (15 F, 8 D) recently. By comparison, Harvard's roster has 17 F, 11 D. Perhaps this has been due to fears that it is harder to recruit to a larger team because prospects fear fighting forby pfibiger - Hockey

BearLover Topher may have been a skilled offensive player, but having a 5'4 guy instruct 6'5 guys hasn't worked so well. And why did Schafer make Syer, another defensive specialist, his head assistant? Why not a real offensive guy? It is my understanding that Schafer coaches the forwards and the PP. Regardless of the assistants (Casey Jones was an offensive guy), the assistants coach the defeby pfibiger - Hockey

Chris '03 Jim Hyla Boxcast will be streaming the games. I assume they'll have archived games as well, but it doesn't look like there is an all tournament games price. $9.95/game Looks like the league pays $300 and earns $5/per person per game: So it looks like the league decided that it was $9.95/game, not the provider. Re: Recruits 2014 - 9 years ago
Trotsky So, sounds like a strong D3 player. Like "AAAA" players in baseball, who can dominate AAA but are blown away by MLB. Has any Cornell player ever tranferred to D3 and done well there? Only guy who comes to mind is the Utavian... whose name doesn't come to mind. Levi something? Matt McKeown left Cornell and went to Fredonia and had a solid three year career there. Cop at Lynah Whatever happend to our pipeline to the Nanaimo Clippers ? We had a great run of getting top end talent from that organization 5-10 years ago. Was it the assistant coaches, Brekke & Garrow. who had that area on the radar ? Bill Bestwick was the coach and GM of the Clippers for like 15 years. His daughter was a CU hockey player. There was some weirdness around the time Braby pfibiger - Hockey

Re: Bob Prier out at Princeton - 9 years ago
Josh '99 billhoward Cornell had a graduating senior in Dick Bertrand who replaced Ned Harkness the next fall. He was a 29-year-old at the time with a stint as a Toronto policeman before Cornell. That must be the first time I've ever heard those facts about Dick Bertrand on this forum. Did you know that he was the goalie on the 1970 team, not Ken Dryden!by pfibiger - Hockey

Leaving after 3 years. Wonder what this means for Scott Garrow? Will he get a shot at the HC position? I imagine a new head coach will bring in his own assistants.by pfibiger - Hockey

Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 9 years ago
Jeff Hopkins '82 Towerroad J Whittington was in fact the last student at Harvard to receive a B. Born in 1903 and after barely leaving the Andover Academy he matriculated in 1924 at the age of 21. It is rumored that during his tenure there is no reported sighting of his ever entering an academic building. The Brothels and Bars of Cambridge were another story. Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 9 years ago
Trotsky Harvard USCHO thread now reporting that another top Harvard prospect, Jeremy Bracco, has decommitted. If the other reports are correct that means four of their best have now split. I suppose there is a hypothetical number where we start feeling bad for them. Assistant Coach also split, he is now at BU.by pfibiger - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2014 - 10 years ago
Trotsky Neither of those were top prospects. When a legacy goes somewhere else because we didn't offer, that's fine. When we offer but he still goes somewhere else, that means we lost the competition for a player who started out with every reason to come to Cornell. That's bad. Obviously there could be a million reasons to not choose your star father's school -- establish your own identitby pfibiger - Hockey
Re: Let's talk about ILDN - 10 years ago
Totally agree. The mobile streaming has been excellent, you can airplay it easily to a tv and can stream it reasonably over 3G. AND we get ivy road games for free. Sure there are some minor production issues but it is an enormous improvement over what came before.by pfibiger - Hockey
Re: Should He Stay or Should He Go 2014 - 10 years ago
Kyle Rose I said "unsure", mainly because that was the closest option of the three to how I actually feel. If it wasn't obvious from the other thread, I think Schafer is doing a (mostly) bang-up job on defense, and a lousy job on offense. I would be satisfied if he brought in a talented assistant to take control of the offense, because the last 10 years have made it abundantly clear thaby pfibiger - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2014 - 10 years ago
Trotsky Interesting. In addition to Gillam and Coon we'll now have Hackett (6/1/96) and Stewart (9/22/94). With four years in the USHL and turning 20 in September, maybe this means Stewart will come in this fall and Hackett will delay. This is my guess too. Hackett seems to have struggled with injury and the transition to the USHL, so a year as the clear-cut #1 in the USHL probably will be aby pfibiger - Hockey

Re: Recruits 2014 - 10 years ago
Trotsky Something very nasty has happened to the old Recruits thread (don't go there, it immediately crashes you out of eLynah), so what the hey, why not a new one? Looking at BRPH's still-maintained recruit stat table, a few things jump out: The one that jumps out at me is Dwyer Tschantz: Playing in the USHL, #2 on his teams in goals scored, and 6'5".
