Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Quinnipiac 5 Cornell 4, ot - 8 years ago
WE'll know soon enough, but my biggest worry after a game like this is that Somebody is going to decide, "See what happens when you try to open it up?" and by early January we'll be back to the 2-1 games, with the occasional 0-0 tie thrown in.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Highlights? - 8 years ago
Swampy andyw2100 Swampy What's with the names on the jerseys? Was this a Halloween thing or did we actually put in a bunch of ringers? Thanks. But really, #19 gets unlegendary Chris Abbott (choose Players > Legends)? Talk among yourselves. I see they also didn't have #39, only worn by the legendary Eddy Skazyk.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: Upcoming Season '15-16 - 8 years ago
Jim Hyla Not with us, but I guess everywhere but the Ivies, coaches can supervise practices starting yesterday. Definitely a disadvantage compared to what we can do. Will the Ivies ever change? Hey now, let's not unfairly portray the Ivy League as inflexible. Why, over the last 30 years or so, they've gone from 26 regular-season games all the way up to 29!by Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: Frozen Four - 9 years ago
Providence wins their first NCAA championship, the third first-time winner in a row after Yale in 2013 and Union last year. This is the first time there have been three consecutive first-time championship winners since Michigan, Boston College, and Colorado College turned the trick in 1948-50, which were the first three NCAA championships played.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: 2015-16 - 9 years ago
Trotsky Don't share this, but I never believe the season has been "legitimate" unless Cornell, Harvard, or a North County school wins. The rest are sort of "bye" years. Which has made recent history uneventful. Legit years by decade: 80s, 5: 80, 83, 87, 88, 89 Um... 86?by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: How many more goals will Buckles (currently with 4), Freschi (2), Tschantz (1), Weidner (1), Yates (1), P. McCarron (1) and Bliss (1) score over games 16-30? - 9 years ago
dbilmes Buckles' goal against Brown Friday night gave this group of non-goal scorers a total of 8 in the final 15 games of the regular season. Congratulations to the two people who voted in the poll for 8 as being the number they would score. This finishes my updates on this fascinating topic! Hold on, the poll was for games 16-30. They've got one more game.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: ECAC 2014-15 - 9 years ago
Trotsky Ordinarily I'm a big fan of regression as an explanation, but Harvard had so many serious injuries to so many key personnel happen within such a short amount of time that I really do think that's what is the major factor. I admit I haven't been paying much attention to the Crimson's injury situation. I just thought that the team woke up on New Year's Day and collectively realized, &quoby Give My Regards - Hockey

RichH Give My Regards And now the too-much-time-on-my-hands version: Cornell: THIS WEEKEND: At Brown, at Yale. ON THEIR OWN: One point will give Cornell seventh place. BEST CASE: Would finish third with a sweep if Harvard and Dartmouth get no more than two points each and Colgate also beats Yale but loses to Brown. WORST CASE: Falls to eighth if they loseby Give My Regards - Hockey

And now the too-much-time-on-my-hands version: Back and... well, at least not much worse than ever, it’s the ECAC Playoff Permutation Spectacular! Let’s get the easy ones out of the way first; no matter what happens, Quinnipiac, St. Lawrence, and Princeton are guaranteed to finish first, second, and twelfth respectively. However, plenty of intrigue is still left over for positions threby Give My Regards - Hockey
2015 ECAC Playoff Permutations - 9 years ago
Short version first: Possible ECAC tournament seedings (the number in parentheses is the best seed the team can get with no help): Quinnipiac 1 (1) St. Lawrence 2 (2) Yale 3-7 (3) Harvard 3-7 (4) Colgate 3-7 (5) Dartmouth 3-8 (6) Cornell 3-8 (7) Clarkson 6-9 (8) Rensselaer 8-11 (9) Union 9by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: ECAC Playoff Possibilities Stuff - 9 years ago
As long as we're playing pie-in-the-sky, how about this: Quinnipiac, Clarkson, and Cornell all win out. St. Lawrence goes 0-4. Yale beats Colgate. This would set up a tie for second at 26 points among Cornell, Clarkson, and possibly Yale. Cornell would take second based on a head-to-head sweep against the other two.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Union- cornell - 9 years ago
I turned on the game late in the third period and actually thought something was wrong with my eyes. Was that really a 5? As of 10 PM, collegehockeystats.net has not updated the result of this game; the 0-0 score they're showing is entirely too believable.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: Polls 2014-15 - 9 years ago
Boy, that Red-White game was killer for the men; it dropped them three places. Fortunately, the women came out of it all right. As for Princeton getting 17, maybe their own coach/AD/whoever voted them fourth.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Towerroad Swampy Towerroad Josh '99 Jeff Hopkins '82 Trotsky Harvard USCHO thread now reporting that another top Harvard prospect, Jeremy Bracco, has decommitted. If the other reports are correct that means four of their best have now split. I suppose there is a hypothetical number where we start feeling bad for them. Nope.I think I'd feel bad if it got to the point where they lost so many plby Give My Regards - Hockey

Josh '99 dag14 I believe that Craig Brush '72 son played elsewhere -- maybe Princeton? And Jim Gibson's son was a star lax player at Yale. There's a Matt Brush who played for Princeton and subsequently for the Florida Everblades. Which reminds me -- I keep meaning to ask, is this for real? I have yet to find a confirmation. (Just to be clear, I'm not talking about the outdated scoring syby Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: Andy Iles by the numbers - 10 years ago
Trotsky rdez79 What are the final results? Here. Some settling may occur, but these are derived from my records. And 117 games started, also a Cornell record for goaltenders. The only game Andy appeared in but didn't start was his first game in a Cornell uniform, against New Hampshire on 10/29/2010, a 7-4 loss in which he played the last 13 minutes.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: Lake Placid Attendance - 10 years ago
jtwcornell91 Trotsky the other cities anyway near the geographic center of the conference (Syracuse, Worcester, Bridgeport, New Haven, Hartford) are even worse shit holes. I presume you've left out Rochester because it's outside the geographic footprint of the conference, and not because it's not a shit hole. Re: Andy Iles by the numbers - 10 years ago
Trotsky Corrie d'Alessio gets an honorable mention for his total goals series-clinching 0-0 shutout at Clarkson in the 1989 QF. Only because I believe the two-game-total-goals series to be the stupidest format ever, I have to point out that that wasn't what the ECAC quarterfinals were back then -- they were a best-of-two-with-a-dumbass-minigame-if-needed series, the second-stupidest format eveby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Annual Awards - 10 years ago
cbuckser I'm much less charitable to Eddy Skazyk than Greg. Mike Schafer yanking Eddy at Harvard and handing the reins to Jason Elliott may have been as much of a turning point to the 1995-96 season as the infamous fetid bus ride home from West Point. Eddy did play one more game that year, the following weekend against Union, and he did pretty well in a 5-1 win. It wasn't until Elliott playedby Give My Regards - Hockey
