Re: road trip of a lifetime - 19 years ago
Ben Rocky 04 Wrote: My feeling on the Minnesota fans is that they see gopher hockey as representing their entire state, and the "Minnesota" "SUCKS" cheer was taken much too personally by them. They were silent through most of the game against us, most of their cheering coming when there was an icing call. Re: post-road trip of a lifetime - 19 years ago
Despite the outcome, it was a great trip. I wish more of the faithful could have made it to Minneapolis. I'm guessing there were between 200-300 (closer to 200) and, with the exception of the OT goal, I'm not sure the Red ones weren't louder than the other ones. The band was great. Those leading the chants were great (pretty ballsy absuing one's hosts when one's outnumbered about 30:1). I don'by ithacat - Hockey

Al DeFlorio Wrote: ithacat Wrote: The game can be dissected many ways by both teams, in the end they made 2 more plays than Cornell made. Right--except maybe it was one more play, not two. The ironic thing is that their "two plays" were seemingly out of the Cornell hockey textbook, and our "one play"--a perfectly-executed odd-man transition rush--was exactly what yoby ithacat - Hockey

ugarte Wrote: Well, we were skating a man down for a lot of the game, so it was something of a big deal (Carefoot's goal notwithstanding). It wasn't the officials' fault, though. Cornell committed a lot of penalties to keep the buzzing Minnesota skaters in check. By the way, I thought the linesmen were horrible. A lot of very questionable offsides calls. abmarks Wrote: And for you guys screaming for more games, it ain't gonna happen. First off, there's an advantage to playing fewer games - a lot less wear and tear. And then the obvious: you went to an Ivy league school. And Cornell isn't going to go changing things just because all of a sudden we have some sustained success. Those games do nothing to get us ready for the NCAA's, putting aside whether it's good/bad from a PWR perspective. ugarte Wrote: Almost certainly not. The team in 1st is way ahead of us and more likely to widen the gap than to see us narrow it. I'm not sure that we'll hold on to 2d. To put it in perspective, the team expressed a desire to finish in the top 10, so this is outstanding. What were we ranked going in? 11th? lgr...by ithacat - Hockey

FWIW... Based on GAA, DiLeo ranks 14th in the NAHL. The top two goalies are Jason Kearney (?) and Ben Bishop (UMaine). Here's how Dan compares in some categories: GAA: Kearney, 1.80 Bishop, 1.90 DiLeo, 2.98 SV%: Kearney, .924 Bishop, .922 DiLeo, .913 SVs: DiLeo, 1009 Bishop, 904 Kearney, 705 SOs: Kearney, 6 Bishop, 5 DiLeo, 1by ithacat - Hockey

Otherwise the place is sold out so the fans will have to look to the scalpers. With that scenario, I doubt that the hoops game will pull many people away from Albany.
