Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell v. Columbia (Hoops) This Sat in NYC - 17 years ago
My $0.50: I went to the game a couple of years ago, and I'd suggest buying your tickets ahead of time to be safe. Being the former sports info brat that I am, I had some comps set aside (read: misplaced by Columbia's ticket office, who made Gene Nighman look like a god among men). When they couldn't find them, I was going to just suck it up and pay, but the game was sold out. I did make itby Jerseygirl - Other Sports

Have we seen the team trotting off to Friedman in their warmups for some post-game conditioning? Maybe it's time to bring that back...by Jerseygirl - Hockey
Re: Ivy Recruiting - 17 years ago
I can offer a little bit of insight...I don't know exact ratios or all the different categories going into computing the index number, but it takes measurements like SAT scores, high school GPA, any junior college/other college classes, etc. Apparently there was an outstanding basketball recruit a few years ago who couldn't get into Cornell because even though he had awesome juco grades and aby Jerseygirl - Hockey
Re: Little Win for Men's Basketball (ok, Beeej?) - 17 years ago
Chris '03They can't shoot 33% for a half and expect to compete in the 14 games that count. Oh sure they can. This is Ivy league basketball, remember? My friends and I used to make bets on whether or not one of the teams would score 20 points by halftime. In all seriousness however, it's good to see the team off to a 2-0 start against teams other than like, Ithaca College.by Jerseygirl - Other Sports
Re: 2007 recruit: Patrick Kennedy - 17 years ago
Well, considering it says he wants to raise money for learning disability-oriented charities, it's quite possible that he wanted it included. You know, like how Dave McKee made his ADHD diagnosis public to help raise awareness.by Jerseygirl - Hockey

Brawling outside of a place called "Gourmet Heaven." Way to be edgy, guys. Good to see they didn't violate the mincing, uppercrust Ivy League stereotype with this scrap.by Jerseygirl - Hockey

Ahem. We celebrate Christmas, obviously. Mommy and Daddy buy me gifts. awwww...like an adorable Swedish toddler. An adorable Swedish toddler who could kill you by smooshing you up against a wall, laughing in your ear as he did so.by Jerseygirl - Hockey

jtwcornell91jkahnpfibiger On Moulson joining the Monarchs: Matt from the article "It's been unbelievable," Moulson said. "It's a little different than college: the professional atmosphere; the way you're treated. I've never had a 50-percent discount at a restaurant before." I wonder if 50% is a lesser discount than some guys got in college. Only at the dining hallsby Jerseygirl - Hockey

Trotsky As a long-suffering Islander fan who doesn't allow his children piercings and doesn't care what other parents let theirs do... There is no Plan. There is no Aim. There is only The Moment. Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Good. They can wait until they're 18 and pay for it themselves. Your last line would make a great ad campaign. If the Isles were into self parody.by Jerseygirl - Hockey
Re: BU outlaws swearing in stands - 17 years ago
martyJerseygirlWhat does getting pierced have to do with being an idiot? Hepatitis C! Not if you do your research and go to a reputable piercer. Sure, some people get infected or have complications, but those are vastly due to ignorance in selecting your piercer and/or poor aftercare. It's like getting knocked up: really easy to get pregnant, but also really easy to not get pregnant. I kby Jerseygirl - Hockey
Re: BU outlaws swearing in stands - 17 years ago
Some of the smartest people I know are pierced... I swear, my kids can do whatever the hell they want, just as long as it isn't illegal or rooting for the Red Sox. I'd rather have the works of Ann Coulter '84 foisted on me at Christmas. Ok, dropping it... Speaking of BU: andby Jerseygirl - Hockey

Re: price of tickets keep going up !!!!! - 17 years ago
A quick look at www.jackalshockey.com reveals that the Elmira Jackals, the home team at the team's alternate home site, has games scheduled at 7:35 p.m. on both Friday Oct. 27 and Saturday Oct. 28 at the First Arena. One could therefore conclude that the thought process causing Athletics to dream up 1 p.m. game times is the one that leads them to accommodate the games of the host arena's homeby Jerseygirl - Hockey

Can you really get "decked" by a foam finger? Yeah. Colgate. Thugs. I know others on eLF have had less than pleasant experiences with other schools, but Colgate fans are the only ones I've ever encountered who really take the taunting way too far -- as in, they don't drop the nonsense when you're like, "hey guys, I just hate you because you're cheering for the other team. NYC Tech Nerd(s) Needed - 17 years ago
Hi everyone. My boyfriend's company, a small web development firm, is looking for one or two developers to start immediately. The boyfriend asked if I knew anyone qualified, and I don't, really. But I *do* know that there are a lot of smarty-pants technical types who frequent eLynah. I've reposted the job description below. It's a legit company that takes on really interesting projects for intereby Jerseygirl - John Spencer Is Dead

You haven't been to Alphabet City in a while, have you? The most violence I've ever seen over there is a shih tzu getting attacked by a miniature pinscher in the Tompkins Park dog run. Although I did once run into a co-worker on 5th and B at around 2 a.m. on a Sunday morning. He was wearing leather shorts. Just leather shorts. That was pretty awesome.by Jerseygirl - Hockey
Re: Nickerson in Best College Action Shots of the Year - 18 years ago
Yes, although I learned to be amused by Gene and Andy. Although in defense of wrestlers, Clint Wattenberg was one of the nicest guys, athlete or non-athlete, I knew at school. Awesome dude. As far as that other Nickerson goes, didn't the Cornell trip work out well for Clarkson, since they could just cart him up Tower Road for his vaccinations after the skatearound? Very convenient...by Jerseygirl - Other Sports
Re: Nickerson in Best College Action Shots of the Year - 18 years ago
I'm always psyched to have Cornell sports get more exposure, but I wish he'd chill with the strutting and flexing and posing. The guy who beat him in the finals did the same thing, and it just seems unsportsmanlike and ugly. What's wrong with a triumphant fist pump or something? Sorry to be Ms. Negative...by Jerseygirl - Other Sports

Re: the loss of the cha inevitable? - 18 years ago
Oh for Pete's sake can we drop it already? My original comment was meant to poke lighthearted fun at an original perception I had without considering the source. Like maybe "cha" was some sort of New Age visualization technique McKee had picked up on a sojourn to New Mexico and was now taking with him to the big leagues, leaving the Big Red without spiritual grounding. Re: NY Times article on Cornell's image committee - 18 years ago
I've actually noticed that many of the more "acedemic" colleges and universities don't include a link to their athletics website from the front page. I choose to believe based on this totally anecdotal evidence that these schools are subtly de-emphasizing the focus on sports with this maneuver.by Jerseygirl - John Spencer Is Dead

Trotsky It just sure as shit won't come from Ithaca. Nothing will, but another consist of MBAs, PhDs, and JDs. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I disagree. There's some pretty interesting talent coming from Goldwin Smith, that is, if the people with whom I went to class keep at it and get published. Re: the loss of the cha inevitable? - 18 years ago
Silly me, I read that thread title before seeing who started it, and thought the "cha" was something like "chi" or energy flow. I should have realized that a) that poster doesn't believe in caps and b) this crowd ain't that new-agey.by Jerseygirl - Hockey

cornelldavyJerseygirl(See: Lauren Weisberger and the borderline unreadable Devil Wears Prada. Ok, dishing on Anna Wintour helped too.) Also, Lauren Weisberger didn't use an entirely original name for the main character's boyfriend in that book. Now when you Google me, you get a bunch of hits for The Devil Wears Prada.
