Hi everyone. My boyfriend's company, a small web development firm, is looking for one or two developers to start immediately. The boyfriend asked if I knew anyone qualified, and I don't, really. But I *do* know that there are a lot of smarty-pants technical types who frequent eLynah. I've reposted the job description below. It's a legit company that takes on really interesting projects for interesting clients and seems to have a good culture (hey, the boyfriend likes it...).

I hope no one minds me posting this here -- I parked it in JSID so as not to ruffle any feathers -- but I want to help out my boyfriend as well as my fellow eLynah folks.

If this ad piques your interest, send me a private message and we can talk about it more. I can't promise I will vouch for you if I don't know you personally, but I will forward along everyone who would like to be forwarded along.

Thanks!

We are looking to hire 1-2 web developers as soon as possible for work on projects this fall. The developer(s) would work directly for me, full time, and need to be located somewhere in/around NYC. There will be a combination of work from home days, work from client site days, meetings with me around the city, possible travel to Boston (infrequent), etc. We're more interested in finding someone who is smart and can manage themselves and do good work than we are in someone with a fancy resume printed on fancy paper. In fact, I'm not going to read anyone's resume. I can't stand resumes. I want to find someone I can meet, talk to for 30 minutes, trust to get things done, and then get those things done.

We're pretty flexible with experience level. The position is really for a mid-level (3-5 years out of school) developer, but we'd be comfortable hiring someone right out of college as long as they had that weird attitude of thinking they can do anything and everything in half the time anyone else can.

Technology-wise, the minimum requirement is "you need to have built a database-backed web application that someone besides you actually
uses." Ideally, they should have familiarity with Ruby on Rails (and understand unit testing and the MVC pattern), mySQL (basic queries, understanding of indexing/optimization, and search), HTML (produce clean markup and understand markup produced by our design team) and CSS (understand the basics of how stylesheets work and how css selectors relate to HTML markup). What we expect is someone who is interested in learning about the technology we're using and who will commit the time necessary towards becoming an expert in that technology. The applications they build will be well promoted and used by thousands of people right away once they launch.
