Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2022 - 2 years ago
mike1960 dag14 Howie lives and works in NYC so if his color commentary is missing at a game, it means he couldn't make the trip. Tom Lafalce -- a Cornell employee who also does a great job -- is the other regular color guy. He was at Colgate I believe. Did LaFalce play at Colgate? Tom was once head manager of the Big Red Marching Band. He's from Long Island, so I've always assumed he playedby Scersk '97 - Other Sports

George64 Scersk '97One of my many concerns regarding the Roosevelt Island project is whether it will cause a brain drain in science and engineering from the Ithaca campus to the great detriment of the University. Frankly, a Cornell without engineers rubbing shoulders with hotelies, architects (even the misled ones), etc., etc. is not Cornell. To the contrary, Cornell is making a huge capital iby Scersk '97 - John Spencer Is Dead

I know you're being flippant, but I'll take it up to say that I very much hope that isn't the case. jtwcornell91 FWIW, my beef with Q is not that they're trying to be a jock factory, but most decisions the school has made in the last couple of decades, including moving up the hockey program to D1, have been marketing ploys. (E.g., they have a polling center because they realized that every time someone says "Quinnipiac poll", the school's name is mentioned in the media.) Quinnipiacby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Trotsky Too bad Harvard lost, but they are consistent, I'll say that. ALLSTON'S PRIDE ON THE LINKS! We distinctly disagree on the first part of your comment. I made my peace with Union and Yale winning championships; that peace is unavailable in the event that QU wins or Harvard wins another. When, hopefully soon, both of them are gone from the national tournament, my mind can be at ease. Anby Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid roll call - 2 years ago
BearLover You may well be right about all of the above. But my point is less about Harvard’s current roster and more about the direction the program has trended. Yes, Harvard has always gotten the best talent in the ECAC. But this year’s 12 draft picks is the most in Harvard history. They would have had even more if not for COVID. Cornell, meanwhile, has 4. And judging from the recruits in the piby Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid roll call - 2 years ago
Swampy BearLover Scersk '97 And, after next year, I predict we will be discussing the significant and immediate diaspora from Cambridge. Our current sophomores and freshmen, however talented, will not be leaving. The thing about Harvard is that even the elite players tend to stay in school 3 or 4 years. The players already self-selected to care about their education when they chose the school,by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid roll call - 2 years ago
scoop85 BearLover Harvard lapping the ECAC in recruiting has come home to roost. Frankly, had last season not been canceled, the 2020-21 Harvard team may been the most talented team in ECAC history post-split with Hockey East. Players who went pro when last season was canceled included Jack Drury, Jack Badini, Jack Rathbone (yes, triple Jack), and Reilly Walsh. Matty Beniers decommitted and wentby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Greenberg '97 Scersk '97 Rooting for the Meteor. Thought long and hard about this one. I will root for Sucks, albeit silently, for the two bids. Still going tonight. Go hockey. Son is in championship game tomorrow, which is all that really matters. I can't. I may hate QU, but eventually they'll leave. One can only hope. Re: 2022 Takeaways - Root for any ECAC-in-NCAAs team - 2 years ago
scoop85 ursusminor Nate McDonald has entered the transfer portal. No surprise he’s want to use that extra year of eligibility. We're likely to see quite a few of next year's seniors doing the same (after next year's season) because of the Ivy League's idiotic treatment of those robbed of a season by COVID, never mind the typical prohibition against grad athletes. Just a mess.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: 2022 Takeaways - longest ECAC drought - 2 years ago
gored Agree. Harvard's team in 1989 was outstanding and they still needed some luck to win it. Yale was incredibly lucky to win in 2013 (yes, they were good, but def not the best team in the nation or even the ECAC that year). We just haven't had the lucky breaks. Indeed, I think we recently had the unluckiest break of all. I am not overwhelmingly superstitious; I don’t believe in karma, whatby Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid roll call - 2 years ago
Word in LP today was that public skating on the Oval is on for (Tuesday) tomorrow, but the rest of the week is up in the air due to weather. The new refrigeration system should allow them to extend the season, and I think the urge is there to have it open during ECACs, unlike in years past when it seemed no one could be bothered.by Scersk '97 - Hockey

upprdeck especially as they are really just a a bubble team anyway. Yeah, I just noticed that I was reading their KRACH standing instead of PWR. My bad. A couple of championship AQs will knock them out, so they're pretty unlikely to make it. Yet, they shouldn't still be under consideration.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others, 2021-22 - 2 years ago
So now OSU will get an unplanned two-week rest while other teams compete for league honors. This "feature" of the system sucks, every year. If you can't make it through a best 2-of-3 quarterfinal, you shouldn't be in the national tournament. I don't care who it is: it sucks.by Scersk '97 - Hockey

Trotsky Scersk '97The gradual "crackdown" on pinning people to the boards with one's lower body absolutely changed the game, and I think it remains a legitimate skill and is penalized improperly. It should be "2 minutes for boring as fuck." I am so glad that is called now. There were times when guys could burn 50 seconds off a penalty pinning a puck carrier like that. Iby Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others, 2021-22 - 2 years ago
nshapiro Unless you did it like John Parry. when an attacking opponent would try to get by him with the puck entering the zone, he would just lower his shoulder into the attacker's chest, and slowly coast him to the boards, pinning him there. Sounds legal to me! Of course, also seems like the check was initiated far from the boards and Parry didn't "explode through" the check or any nby Scersk '97 - Hockey

RichH Trotsky JFC it's 6 degrees in Placid right now. Play the ECACs in Vegas. Of course I argue winter weather for winter sports, but what do I know? I guess I’m the weirdo who can actually exist without complaining in cold climates. Yeah, how hard is it to wear a hat, coat, and scarf?
