Homewood Suites or Penn State building, you make the call.by Scersk '97 - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Paul Milstein Hall - 12 years ago
Trotsky So basically the whole campus looks like MVR. With those aircon vent "details" and the shitty apologetic greenery, more like a roadside Homewood Suites.by Scersk '97 - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Mercyhurst 5 Cornell 4 - 12 years ago
ScrewBU Big and slow is no way to go. Cornell's slide into obscurity continues. So you didn't watch the game? Neat. The D needs work, missing coverages all night long. The O looks further along than they usually are at this point. So, given that I am very sure that Schafer teams eventually lock down defensively, I'm not too worried.by Scersk '97 - Hockey

I know it's just impotent wailing, but why do we have such a shit production? The long camera is just unfathomably low quality. Why???!!!by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: National Collegiate Hockey Conference - 12 years ago
RichH WCHA would be reduced to the Yoopers, Alaskas, and minor State schools? Man, it does look so marginal. I do suspect, though, that we are about to witness the resurgence of Michigan Tech, which is kind of cool. Their fans must be wetting themselves with glee at being newly "central" to anything.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: National Collegiate Hockey Conference - 12 years ago
And, with Bowling Green departing to the WCHA and Notre Dame to Hockey (L)east(!), the CCHA has ceased to exist. It is defunct. It is an ex-conference. What strikes me like a dead parrot against a shop counter is that Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota are now very fragmented. Whereas a recruit from, say, Birmingham, Michigan could once, if unable to secure a position in Ann Arbor, headby Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: National Collegiate Hockey Conference - 12 years ago
ursusminor BTW, Ken Schott has posted again that there are rumblings that Cornell interested in the HE . Only way that happens is with my ridiculous Superleague or some other crazy idea, because 22 + 10 = 32 > 29. This is not the way I wanted us to pick up RIT. I had always hoped that would come by excommunicating Quinnipiac or Union.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: National Collegiate Hockey Conference - 12 years ago
This. And this^3. When Jeff Jackson croaks, Notre Dame will become the unwanted country cousin of Hockey East. The only way I end up happy is if this motivates a 23- (or 24-) team superleague. You know the drill: 4 divisions of Ivy, ECAC, HE1, and HE2; home-and-home intradivision, one game interdivision = 27 league games (for the Ivies and other participants in 6-team divisions) or 26 leaby Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Schoellkopf Field to get new video scoreboard - 12 years ago
imafrshmn I think some band traditions have arisen from all the years of football mediocrity and needing to make their own fun at games. Ding, ding, ding! Some games are best appreciated from the top of the Biotech Building.by Scersk '97 - Other Sports

CUontheslopes And as for the "bad," well there are some people (read: kids) who like that and if it puts a few more people in the stands, then just avert your eyes when it comes on - simple enough. Actually, if it were just visual pollution, I wouldn't care so much. It's the noise. You have to understand who I am a bit to understand why I'm peeved: 4-year bandie and pep bandie, doby Scersk '97 - Other Sports
Re: Schoellkopf Field to get new video scoreboard - 12 years ago
CornellChris To your point though, they did use the scoreboard to flash "player cards" with student-athlete pictures and pertinent info. I think we can both agree that this, at least, is an appropriate use of the technology. Yes. But to address CUontheslopes, who seems grateful that good (replays) has come along with the bad ("kiss cam" ), one wonders why we have to take thby Scersk '97 - Other Sports
Re: Schoellkopf Field to get new video scoreboard - 12 years ago
Strongly, strongly disagree. The scoreboard, as currently controlled, detracts from the gameday experience by presenting a loud, annoying sideshow of crap, including the "kiss cam," Clarkson-style clapping hands, and everything else that makes me puke. If they could keep it to replays and information on the players, I'd have no problem with it. And commercials? Fuck me. I was mby Scersk '97 - Other Sports

Oh, completely secondly agreed. Travel partnerships generally don't make sense west of Buffalo.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: National Collegiate Hockey Conference - 12 years ago
Robb jtwcornell91LS/FS 4 hours between games is pretty tough for a travel-partner type arrangement, but *just* doable. For reference, Google Maps says it takes 2 hrs 56 mins to travel from Hamden to Princeton, and we all know that can take much longer depending on the traffic. I would say 4 hrs through, well, no traffic to speak of is just fine. Indeed, given the lake effect off of Erie,by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: National Collegiate Hockey Conference - 12 years ago
With the formation of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference ("national"... seriously?) and the departure (return) of Northern Michigan to the WCHA, it seemed a good time to update the map of the 2013 hockey landscape. My apologies on the color for the NCHC, but, while I wanted to emphasize how it was all clearly about money, I had already used "puke" for the BTHC.by Scersk '97 - Hockey

Re: Roll out at Clarkson - Casey Jones a finalist? - 13 years ago
pfibiger I believe he worked with the defense (which is funny given that he was a forward, and Schafer, a defenseman, worked with the offense.) Methinks it would be best if Schafer found someone to take over the offense again...by Scersk '97 - Hockey

Re: Cornell mentioned in NYTimes Title IX article 4/25/11 - 13 years ago
Rather BS article considering how the authors never cited the total numbers at any of the universities they were raking over the coals. I may not particularly like J. Andrew, but I think he runs a pretty tight ship. I'd hazard a guess that our athletic program is rather close to being in compliance.by Scersk '97 - Other Sports
Re: Alumni In The Playoffs - 2011 - 13 years ago
How he broke his stick over the goal after we beat them at Lynah in the fall of '96 made that win oh-so-satisfying. Good ol' Timmie. "Where is your team? Clap-clap-clapclapclap." "No, Cats, no!" --heard at Placid in the spring of '97by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Garman is gone - 13 years ago
You know, one would think that he could stick around and take grad classes while still technically being a "senior" and then matriculate at the end of next year. But that would require (1) that he wants to go to grad school, something I wouldn't wish on anybody; (2) that he wants to go to grad school at Cornell, which may not be the best choice in his particular discipline; (3) that hiby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Re: NCAA title UMD 3, Michigan 2 OT - 13 years ago
First "new" winner since Maine's first championship in 1993. 18 years. Too bad that the team that broke the "spell" was a 4th place team in the regular season that didn't make its conference's semis. Oh well, at least they were playing that weekend instead of sitting home and resting.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference - 13 years ago
To focus our discussion, I rather hastily threw together this, based on the file available in Wikimedia Commons here. I see Northern Michigan looking attractive to the WCHA, a potential three-team Upper Peninsula (the UP) conference (Tech, Northern, and LSSU) or four-team UP plus Alaska divison, and a five-team Michohiana conference or division. I think a smaller-time CCHA would be doableby Scersk '97 - Hockey

KeithK css228 KeithK css228 Scersk '97 Actually, I wasn't joking, I was just being horrendously unclear. I meant that the league (21/6 = 3.5) would receive alternately three or four autobids. Leaving aside my wacko pro/rel angle but incorporating the notions of landing Notre Dame and Miami, decimating Atlantic Hockey, and "saving" Alabama-Hunstville, here's another dream scenario: Ivy East West =============================================== Dartmouth Quinnipiac Miami Harvard RPI Notre Dame Brown Union Robert Morris Yale Colgate Mercyhurst Princeton SLUby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Jim Hyla Scersk '97 One wonders whether we will be presented with a chance to end Princeton's season nice and early on April 30th.I know you were just using an expression, but I wouldn't call that nice.
