Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams

Re: Wallowing - 11 years ago
Ben Tom LentoBC is the only one of those three teams to take home the national title since NoDak last won it in 2000. As the son of a Badger, I'm obligated to remind you of Wisconsin's 2006 national title. I'm totally confused by this, since a) I mentioned Wisconsin's national title in the post and b) the "three teams" in question here are BC, NoDak, and Michigan. Trotsky TimVBut you should know somebody used your name and password to start this thread with an awful list of stuff! Ironic reference to the "fans" who immediately re-jumped back on the holocaust wagon the second we lost to Yale. If they are going to whine, I would at least like them to whine informedly. Also, the point of a chart like this isn't that we finished 9th. It's thatby Tom Lento - Hockey

billhoward andyw2100 billhoward Also nice with the one line summary about how a win at Brown and tie/better at Yale is good for seventh (at least, I think). That was easy to understand. I think you think wrong there, Bill. Josh said: "One more hypothetical situation: if Cornell beats Brown and doesn't lose to Yale, and every other game is won by the team higher in the standings, Cornby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: ECAC Playoff Possibilities and Race in a Nutshell Thread - 11 years ago
Scersk '97 Whelp, great weekend. Unfortunately, our outside chance at a first-round bye has slipped away with Yale's victory, given that wins are the first tiebreak past head-to-head now. I'm hoping Cornell (4 points) and Princeton (4 points) win out, Dartmouth (0 points) loses to QC, Union ties SLU, Clarkson (2 points) beats Union (1 point) and loses to RPI, and Colgate beats Yale (0 points).by Tom Lento - Hockey

Weder Tom Lento underskill MattS underskill but if there's some behind the scenes stuff going on, I wouldn't be shocked if we see some early departures either next year (Ferlin, Lowry, etc.) I have wondered about this also. Re: 2012-13 Polls Men & Women - 11 years ago
Towerroad Tom Lento Has any Schafer team had meaningful success - in league or out - without being able to play the eternal cycle puck possession game we (ok, fine, I) love to watch? I think you know the answer already. The Schafer offense is a one trick pony. When it works it is a good trick, when it does not it is pretty poor. Re: CU vs. Denver - 11 years ago
Redscore stop it.... we are a crappy team. so disappointing. Does this mean the Fire Schafer party is going to start early this year? Looks like Yale might have a good team again, maybe we can even start the "Schafer's system doesn't work" threads before the bulk of the ECAC RS gets going.by Tom Lento - Hockey

Beeeej (Granted, those who actually remember what happened in game 6 in 1986 also know that Bill Buckner making that play merely would've ended the inning with the score tied, not ended the game with a Red Sox win - and that before Kevin Mitchell tied the score on Bob Stanley's wild pitch, there were about a dozen separate pitches on which the Sox could have won the World Series outright - so Bucby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: 2012-13 Schedule - 12 years ago
CowbellGuy Well, some of those filler games tend to be booked late. Sacred Heart or Niagara on a Tuesday certainly aren't planned years in advance, so until the schedule's done, it can't really be announced. I still don't think how good the team is has any bearing on the quality of schedule. It doesn't matter how bad the team might be, if Schafer could schedule a home-and-home with a Denver or Miby Tom Lento - Hockey

Re: Cornell-Ferris State In Progress - 12 years ago
Kyle Rose scoop85 It just seemed to me that this year we just didn't move the puck quickly enough on the PP, therefore rarely getting an unimpeded look at the net. Watch the BC and Minnesota PP to see the difference. I think it's just that simple I agree. One of the things that I notice about better teams' power plays is that players never sit there with the puck: it's passed or shot *immediatelby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Ferris State In Progress - 12 years ago
TimV I certainly agree with the optimism for next year, and the feeling that we got a lot more this year Than we had a right to expect. That said, after 46 years of living and dying with Cornell Hockey, there are two major chronic problems that frustrate me no end. First is the power play. Re: Thank you, seniors! - 12 years ago
Weder I started following the women's team in 1997, and it's been a great pleasure to see the program transform itself into a national power. It will be tough to see this group of seniors go, but they should be proud of the role they've played. Thank you, ladies. This. Same exact timeframe, too. Johnny 5 However, again they squandered a lead in period 3 & were left with a (program record?) tie. Given their play of late, plus the number of bumps & bruises (is Ferlin hurt now?) do they have any reasonable chance of advancing this season? KeithK Tom Lento upprdeck if we can get a first round bye he could get almost 4 weeks off.. worth it if it will help According to USCHO's live scores widget, Harvard and Brown played to a draw.
