Re: Cornell at Clarkson (pregame) - 12 years ago
upprdeck if we can get a first round bye he could get almost 4 weeks off.. worth it if it will help According to USCHO's live scores widget, Harvard and Brown played to a draw. If that's true, Cornell clinched a top 4 finish with the tie tonight.by Tom Lento - Hockey

Jim Hyla Scersk '97 Trotsky Al DeFlorio Specifics on the Espo injury in today's Ithaca Journal: |topnews|text|SportsAnybody who's had a severe high ankle sprain can sympathize. They are annoyingly painful and seem to take forever to heal. All the more important that we seem to be zeroing in on a first-round bye. We're 6 ahead of Clarkson and 7 on Q. Re: ECAC Playoff Possibilities Time - 12 years ago
Scersk '97 Ah, the Nutshell calms the nerves. Given that we have four of our next six at home, that Clarkson and Harvard still have one more game to play with each other, that the trailing group of Harvard, Clarkson, Quinnipiac, Yale, and Dartmouth have quite a few games left against each other, and that two of those teams, Clarkson and Dartmouth, are not all that good, I feel pretty secure thby Tom Lento - Hockey

Trotsky Kyle Rose KeithK The "it's the system" line has been an ongoing joke here for years and years. It's a safe bet that anytime you see "it's the system" on this forum without any further explanation it's sarcastic. Typical. Jerk. For the record: 1) I was being sarcastic 2) Kyle really is a jerkby Tom Lento - Hockey

Kyle Rose Robb Hmmmm....Being in Architectural Digest, I'm guessing this list was devised by surveying the same retards who produce these ugly-ass buildings. When decisions about the campus are made by people who didn't go to Cornell, don't teach there, or are so far removed that they have forgotten what it's like to live there, inviting some self-important douchebag to design a striking buildingby Tom Lento - John Spencer Is Dead

cbuckser Since Parris Duffus twenty years ago, when has a Cornell goalie established himself as The Answer by October of his sophomore year? I come up with one: David LeNeveu. Besides LeNeveu, David McKee comes the closest; he became an elite goaltender in the first semester of his sophomore season. Jason Elliott did so in the second semester of his sophomore year. Re: CU Women's Hockey-Preseason - 12 years ago
Trotsky This is "The Year," right? I know they dominated last year before being upset in the NCAAs, but IIRC all the talk was about "and this is one year early." The year they went to the finals was one year early. I expected 2 deep NCAA runs from the women, last year and this year (barring players leaving early, which isn't usually a major concern in non-olympic years). Soby Tom Lento - Hockey

Re: Cu - 0 Yale - ECAC finals (postgame) - 13 years ago
Trotsky JDeafvThe systems put in place by the coaches and the player talent is intricately linked and the Cornell/Yale coaching staffs put in place systems that suit their teams. Cornell does not play a tape-to-tape transition game through the neutral zone. Cornell uses tips and quick dump-ins through the neutral zone to get the puck deep below the goal line, executes puck retrieval (aka foreby Tom Lento - Hockey

ACM tretiak Doesn't mean it hasn't happened, and it doesn't even mean I've never seen one before last weekend, but I can't think of an example from college hockey. Sawada got a 5 minute boarding penalty without a game misconduct in the second game of the ECAC QFs against Quinnipiac on March 10, 2007. Couldn't find a box score. Hopefully someone else can. David Harding WillCMJr Tom LentoBut I'm with Jeff - I think of majors as "5 and a game" when I watch college hockey. Interesting that Nicholls didn't get a misconduct for this one. I'm not sure if this was an old rule, or where you two get that thinking from, but it's just not accurate. There are both 5 and 10 minute majors, without automatic game disqualifications. Towerroad Looks like the winning streak ends at 18. Great run! Hope we finish strong. Indeed. Great run, and still unbeaten in the last 19. I think the schedule alignment might be a real blessing for Cornell. They get the best teams in the ECAC at the end of the RS, which should provide better preparation for the playoffs.by Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Women's Season Stuff - 13 years ago
Towerroad For most of the decade, the Women were a mediocre to middling team. Even last year the first half of the season was so so. Something clicked about a year ago and the have been a serious force since then. (Anyone care to speculate?). This years hockey schedule was probably largely set in stone before this team transformed itself and was reflective of the status quo. I would hope thatby Tom Lento - Hockey

billhoward Having nothing better to argue about, this thread devolves to arguments of the meaning of wording rather than intent. I think I know how to divert the discussion quickly (in the manner of Cleavon Little in Blazing Saddles asking "where the white women at?" ): Have I mentioned lately how nice RPI's web feed is ... ? Re: Cornell 3 Clarkson 0 (w) - 13 years ago
Towerroad Clarkson played tougher than expected in the first and 3rd. Big second period with 3 goals including a very nice PP goal. Crowd is definitely growing. Clarkson had a very good team last year, and even though they've fallen off this season I still thought this might be a trap game for the women. Sounds like it was a good win for Cornell, and it's great to hear they're drawing more fansby Tom Lento - Hockey

Re: Cornell 4 Colgate 3 @ Newark postgame - 13 years ago
Towerroad A win is a win and I bleed as Red and anybody but the reality is that it required 3rd period heroics to beat a team that was 1 8 1 coming into the game last night. I think this is more than the result of "rebuilding" and "learning to play together". Perhaps as some have suggested the ECAC is getting better but our fall is petty precipitous given that 3/4 of the teby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Cornell 6 Niagara 0 -- Saturday's women's result - 13 years ago
Towerroad ithacat I love watching the women play. I know it's a different game without contact, but they're a joy to watch. They really know how to maximize odd-man rushes, work 2-on-1s, work breakaways, get the puck into areas that increase the pressure on the goalie and defensemen, go to the far post...just a blast to watch. Of course, it helps when your team has a wealth of talent and speed.by Tom Lento - Hockey

Trotsky heykb Bill, Just gotta point out that CU not only has Ultimate Frisbee, but they are ranked in the top 10 in the country and have advanced to the Nationals the past two years. Trotsky Jim HylaFrankly, I didn't know that standard, as lower body injury could mean a torn quad or hamstring, couldn't it?I always assumed it had to do with hiding injuries that opponents could target.
