Runners at the corners with the tying run on third late in the game. The actual play could be anything - the interesting thing to me is watching the fielders deal with it. Do you go double play depth with your groundball pitcher? Do you bring the infield in to make a play at the plate? Do you play a hybrid (that was all the rage for awhile, but I haven't seen this situation in a game recentby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Iggy Goal - 19 years ago
The stick clearly breaks during the celebration after the goal. Watch the butt end - it breaks off just below where Iggulden's top hand would normally be.by Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Iggy Goal - 19 years ago
Ok, so I must have installed DivX at some point, but I'm probably a version behind since the audio doesn't work right. Jason - I think you need QT Pro, but I could be wrong about that.by Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Iggy Goal - 19 years ago
Actually, QT ran the video without a hitch for me, but the audio cut out after the first second. I MAY have installed a DivX codec for QT, if that's possible, but if I did it was a long while ago - probably when I bought the powerbook. I'll try it in VLC, which should play DivX stuff without a hitch, and see if the sound and video runs properly. Edit - VLC runs it just fine, so I guess QT isby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Philly--Delaware Viewing (good news) - 19 years ago
Thanks for all your efforts Hillel. If I'm free I'll head over, and I'd say invite the OSU folks. The more the merrier.by Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Philly--Delaware Viewing - 19 years ago
Hillel, do you mind posting specifics to this thread if the game gets picked up on TV? I'd like to watch it, and will likely be in Delaware County, so I can get to Chester or Philly pretty easily. Thanks a bunch.by Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Harvard postgame - 19 years ago
I heard Welch retrieved the puck and gave it to Paolini himself, either in the handshake line or immediately afterwards, and it was actually a really classy thing to do. I don't know if they'd played together outside of the NCAAs at some point or if it was just a mark of respect for a rival, but it really doesn't matter. Having said that, people dislike him because he takes a ton of penalty mby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: cornell-uvm pregame - 19 years ago
Ok, every time I get booted (which is fairly often considering it's just the pregame) I have to buffer and stream about 5 minutes of the Cornell-Colgate pregame from Lynah. Anyone else having this experience? Maybe I should download the stream through the website one more time. And the feed is dead on my end, too.by Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: game worn jerseys avail. for sale - 19 years ago
Keep in mind, the Big Red Wings jerseys are worn by a Cornell hockey team. Since Mel Davidson took over as coach the women's hockey team has worn something more or less like the Red Wings prints. So Lehman's jersey is official, just not for the men's side. For all we know, it might've been a game-worn women's jersey, although I highly doubt it. For one thing, men's hockey is the premier sportby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Travel from Philadelphia to Princeton Game - 19 years ago
Depending on time of day and schedules, the connection in Trenton could be as much as a 40 minute wait. I've made the transfer in as little as 5 minutes, but I know people who have had to wait almost the full time between trains (about 30 minutes on a Friday). Driving is faster and easier than the train, but if you don't have a car I think that's pretty much your only way up there. If you caby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: 2/5 cornell v 'gate postgame - 19 years ago
They may look like the Canadian U-18 jerseys, but I saw them as they got off of their bus and piled into the rink. They were wearing their youth team jerseys. I vaguely remember them saying Toronto something or other, and one of the parents said something about being from Toronto. Also, unless I'm older than I thought, those kids were a little young to be on the Canadian U-18, since U-18 is tyby Tom Lento - Hockey

Re: Keep voting For McKee - 19 years ago
McKee was absolutely outplayed by McKenna in the Cornell-SLU game. I don't know if McKenna would be consistently better over the course of a season, but McKee is not nearly as good as his numbers (he's a pretty good goaltender, but his numbers are ridiculous) and McKenna played like he's better than his numbers would indicate. This has nothing to do with the number of shots faced. McKenna stby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Keep voting For McKee - 19 years ago
I don't know about the writers, but the article does say that he's not looking for pity awards. Seems like he specifically mentioned that to the reporter. He's just hoping he can play well enough to help the team - and based on his numbers, he can - and he hopes to get in touch with other people battling the illness. I doubt he'll win the Hobey on the basis of sympathy, but who knows? Theyby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Keep voting For McKee - 19 years ago
I'm assuming you're talking about the Sigalet brothers. Don't know about the skater, but the goalie has posted pretty impressive numbers this year. He's battling MS, recently diagnosed, so he can't play in every game, but he's posted something like a .917 in the games he has played. Pretty impressive for a guy with numbness in both hands. There's an article about him in the latest edition oby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Bertangna on penalties (USCHO) - 19 years ago
Interesting. I saw the obstruction reference re: preceding the call that you quoted when I scanned the rules, but did not find a similar one for contact to the head. The copy of the rules I found just said it was a penalty, major or minor, but I may have just missed it. I have seen obstruction - just plain obstruction - called, and always assumed it was effectively interchangeable with interfeby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Bertangna on penalties (USCHO) - 19 years ago
They've both been in the rules since at least 2002. Although those penalties are typically presented as a prefix (e.g. obstruction-hooking or contact to the head-roughing), the rules don't indicate that they have to be a prefix for a separate infraction. Obstruction does say something about making the call "obstruction-hooking" or something, but maybe Kotyra thought obstruction-interfby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Think students have it tough? - 19 years ago
Thanks for the info. I just remember seeing single game seats available in O, and so assumed there were no season tickets allotted to that section. There may well be season ticket holders in H, too, which would cut down on the single game availability and increase the number of non-student ticket holders. It's something to keep in mind if I either come back to or never leave Ithaca (yikes!) anby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Think students have it tough? - 19 years ago
Based on single-game ticket buying experience: Sections H and O are single game seating (O, of course, is mostly taken up by the visiting team allotment). There are roughly 500 seats in those two sections (give or take 100, I really didn't count carefully, but I think there are 20-25 seats per row and 10-12 rows). Then there are about 1800 student season tickets. The rest of the 3800 seatby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Schafer - 19 years ago
Another factor - it's bleeping expensive for even a single-game ticket. Go watch an AHL or ECHL game, and you'll see a different crowd than you'll find at your average NHL game. On the other hand, it's worth noting that hockey requires a high start-up cost. I'd be a (terrible) goalie if I could afford the pads, but I can't, so instead I'm a (terrible) wing. Re: [OT] CU women's hockey coach to coach Team Canada - 19 years ago
Way to go Coach Davidson! Cornell's been getting better by the day under her watch, and apparently she beat out the likes of Harvard, Dartmouth, and Minnesota for a few of next year's recruits. (Disclaimer: this info is based on comments on the USCHO women's board, and articles posted there) I think the women's team is headed in the right direction - I just hope Davidson's leave of absenceby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: 04-05 recruit Tyler Mugford - 19 years ago
I think the coach has to provide a list of eligible players to the ref before the game. This is separate from the starting lineup, which must be presented by the visiting team by a certain time so the home team has a chance to match lines. I suspect if a player is on this list, he would be eligible to play even if he doesn't actually skate in the warmups. I could go look up the rule for the exby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: [LAX] Princeton-Maryland on FSNY NOW - 19 years ago
That would be since 1992, right? Princeton lost to Towson in OT in 1991. I was looking that up because one of my friends endured a whole lot of woofing from a Maryland fan last week, and wants to rub it in a little. I also found out - Princeton has taken 5 straight from Maryland in the NCAAs. Something tells me Princeton's streak will come to an end this year, but it's still a pretty riby Tom Lento - Hockey
