Re: New Forum Features - 17 years ago
Jacob '06is there a good way to shrink an image down to the appropriate size for an avatar on a mac? If you got a system with Graphic Converter bundled that's relatively painless and should get the job done (note it's not the best graphics software out there, but it works). You might be able to save in different resolutions using Grab, but I've never tried it. iPhoto might do it, too. I knby Tom Lento - Hockey

Agreed. Even if several other featuers broke in the upgrade, that "new posts" button in flat view would have made the upgrade a net positive. Since everything has either continued working or been improved, I'd have to say that this upgrade is a major success at this point. Great job, Age! JasonN95I think Athletics does care; they tried different formulations over the past several years that, although in execution may have failed, at least seemed motivated with the intent of rewarding the most fanatical. I think they finally have run out of the strength to try to solve a problem that, frankly, the students bear much of the blame for. While I agree that some of the problems are aby Tom Lento - Hockey

TrotskyJuana's relocated to the Ithaca Commons. Last time I was there it was still good, but all the atmosphere of that tiny little divey shack was gone. Are you referring to Viva? I didn't know they were up the hill originally, but then there's no reason why I would know that. Re: Sasha Pokulok signs with the Capitals - 17 years ago
BeeeejTom LentoI don't think anyone was particularly concerned about any Cornell players leaving early. Those concerns didn't come about during Schafer's tenure until the class of 2004 came in - and even then there weren't any serious concerns about Cornell players leaving early until LeNeveu's amazing sophomore season. LeNeveu was not the first Schafer-era player to leave early for the pros;by Tom Lento - Hockey

BeeeejRichSThat's what I'm talking about, when Clarkson was referred to as a "hockey factory" along with many other schools that have lost players early. Again: When? If it happened at all, I'm guessing it would have happened in 1999 or 2000, when Cole and Mitchell actually left college. Re: NYC viewing? - 18 years ago
Not that I'll be able to go, but you might want to give Ship of Fools a call. There have been gatherings there in the past, and the owners are great people. They may not be able to show the game due to the aforementioned BBall, or they may require a minimum party to put it on, but they've been pretty flexible in the past.by Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. Clarkson, Game 2 POSTGAME - 18 years ago
scannonI don't know the rule but some people around me were saying that if the lineman calls a foul, as happened for the OB penalty, it has to be a 5 min major. Like I said, I don't know but that could explain how a fairly innocuous hit became such a big deal. Linesmen are allowed to call minor penalties in the NCAA - no requirement to make that a major.by Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: clarkson @ cornell, ecachl second round chatter - 18 years ago
RichH Despite the fact that you didn't give any reasons for your dislike, I'll leave it to Drew & company to make their choice. I'm no regular at Ruloff's either, but I suggested it for our Clarkson friends because 1) it's not too deep into Collegetown and convenient to campus 2) it has a good kitchen during the day if they want snacks with their beer, and 3) it feels like a bar, as opposeby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: clarkson @ cornell, ecachl second round chatter - 18 years ago
RichHPregame, I suggest Ruloff's on College Ave. Right near the entrance to campus, and walkable to Lynah...they also have food. The Nines is another block down the road, and has good deep-dish pizza as well as beer...but you have to wait a long time for pizza, usually. Post-game...I love the Chapter House on Stewart Ave. I hate Ruloff's, but maybe that's just me. The burgers are probablby Tom Lento - Hockey
Re: VLC - 18 years ago
kroseThose of you having problems, try VLC. There are versions for both Linux and Windows (and maybe Mac... dunno). I've had better success with this than with anything, including WMP. Kyle VLC rocks, and is available on Mac OS X, but I didn't think to try it on the feed. I haven't seen the video at all tonight. Re: hockey line forming - 18 years ago
In a moving crowd like that, a stampede only takes a handful of people (or buffalo, or whatever) to start. Similarly, pushing and shoving that results in a crush of people at a door when a line would be much more effective also takes just a few people to start. When I was talking about the jackasses above, I was talking about those people specifically. I probably should have made that more cleby Tom Lento - Hockey

Re: OT: DVR-->Computer-->DVD help - 18 years ago
Thanks. I'll check it out - there was something wrong with the cuts out of commercial, and the audio got out of sync. It may not be worth fixing it - the announcers are amusing the first time through, but they're hardly important.by Tom Lento - Hockey

Ok, my roommate has a DVR which she's used to record the World Ultimate (frisbee) Championships and the UPA College National Championships. She wants to transfer them to DVD so she can watch them later and free up space on the DVR. She bought a tuner card, and the video came through fine but the audio was all screwed up.
