Re: Everblades Tourney - 19 years ago
You might try sending an email to someone on the sports information staff and note that it has caused confusion in the past. Or contact / email the ticket office, since they ought to know what they're selling. The best solution and the one I may have copped to last year in a moment of desperation was contacting Sue Detzer, who I think is general manager of the hockey program despite her not havinby billhoward - Hockey
Re: Everblades Tourney - 19 years ago
Same thing as last year: USCHO, individual schools, CSTV all seemed to list different times. That was a concern when we went last year b/c it's one thing to take in-laws to a 4pm faceoff and another to a 7pm faceoff. I think if you check each college's individual web site and if 3 of the 4 agree as to who's first and who's second, that's the likely starting time.by billhoward - Hockey
Re: Everblades Tourney - 19 years ago
If you look for tickets online it might indicate a sellout (and it was announced as such last year) but last year there seemed to be ~1,000 seats available the first day (nobody sitting in them) and a bit more the second b/c of the fans who didn't come for the consolation.by billhoward - Hockey

Harvard bursts Vermont's bubble - 19 years ago
3-1 home win for the Cantabs over Vermont Tuesday (12/7), ending Vermont's unbeate1n streak at 11. A goal apiece in the second period, second Harvard goal seven minutes into the third, plus an empty-net goal. Announced attendance 1798. Harvard moves into first in the ECAC with 13 points, but that's in 10 games. (Cornell has 9 points in six games.) Now it's time for Colgate to cool off, tooby billhoward - Hockey

2004-05 men's hockey media guide - 19 years ago
Looking for a link to the 2004-05 hockey media guide from Cornell. There's the basketball media guide and last year's ice hockey media guide, but not this year's that comes up in searches. And if it's like the others, it appears if you want to save it locally, you have to save and merge about six PDFs.by billhoward - Hockey
Re: Did McKee just have a bad weekend? - 19 years ago
We need access to a captured video feed, higher res than the Webcast (or what comes out the other end of the pipe), accessible to eLynah and the world at large so we can decide if it's Cook or Downs or Vart or who that turned the puck over in front of McKee, or whose skate it was deflected off of or kicked in. And maybe to give credit to the missing second assists when Cornell scores. Some day.by billhoward - Hockey
Re: Polls 12/6 - 19 years ago
You want Harvard to beat Vermont. a) Root for Ivy over ECACHL, NYS ECACHL over New England ECACHL (not an issue here), ECACHL over Hockey East, East over West. b) Root against the team that has fewer league losses. We're still expecting Cornell to win both the regular season title and the playoffs, right? Vermont is due to come crashing down at some point, but by then they may enough poinby billhoward - Hockey
Re: USCHO article on rink design - 19 years ago
The author nailed the story on the head. Ingall (do people still call it the Yale Whale?) continues to look contemporary from outside and have significant creature comfort issues inside. I hate that in architecture: the designer did a great building except for the fact that people have to use it. Dartmouth's Thompson I always recall as being physically cold (brrrr cold) and somewhat sterile,by billhoward - Hockey
Re: Did McKee just have a bad weekend? - 19 years ago
McKee gotten beaten on a breakaway in the third period against Princeton but he stopped others before in other games. What does a good goalie do against breakaways - save half of them? 40%? 70%? Maybe this is just random tjat McKee let in an SHG. We weren't going to hold every opponent to 0, 1 or 2 goals. At least we have the distinction of having the season open with a nice round number of gby billhoward - Hockey

Sports and sex are easy to sell and they're cheap programming (outside of key pro sports). The satellite companies may as well use all their available bandwidth. Good point about wondering why no Turner South outside the south. Satellite (and to some extent cable) makes it possible to be a Seahawks fan in Miami, or a Florida State fan in Nebraska. And we've got, at least for home games, tby billhoward - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. Princeton (5-3 FINAL) - 19 years ago
Based on these weekend results of the top 15, doesn't look like a whole lot of change. Maybe the top spots shuffle, except #1 Minnesota and #3 Colorado College splitting a series is not an improbable outcome. In the 10 to 15 bracket, all winners except a T-W for #10 Maine and an L-L for #14 Minn-Duluth (but to #4 Wisconsin). Looks like Cornell heads into exams around #12 and that seems about righby billhoward - Hockey

I think Cornell may find the number of people curious for a video only, no audio feed of a woman's basketball game is finite. But I'm curious, too, about the quality of the video.by billhoward - Hockey

Re: Lynah Rink Refurbishment - 19 years ago
Read the story in the Wall Street Journal this past week (11/30/04 P1) about how small the payouts really are. Often both sides agree to settle for no less than $1 million and no more than $5-6 million regardless of the outcome. That guarantees the plaintiff gets some money (as does, ahem, the lawyer) but the defendant doesn't really get soaked. Often the cap both sides agree to is by incredibleby billhoward - Hockey
Re: i2 sports or XMI whatever problems? - 19 years ago
From NJ the webcast was pretty good, maybe a dozen hiccups and 4-5 freezes of 10 seconds but nothing like Friday when it was unwatchable. The closeups (compared to the normal shots) say of Mckee as he hands the puck to the ref after a stop, did anyone sending the feed out to a TV notice the image was so soft it looked as if the camera was out of focus? I'm sure it was more the effect of tryinby billhoward - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. Princeton - 19 years ago
5-3 win, first time Cornell gives up > 2 goals this season; had to happen some time. The outcome could have been better say 6-2 but it could have also been a 4-4 tie. This was not the Princeton that was blown out by Yale.by billhoward - Hockey

Re: Lynah Rink Refurbishment - 19 years ago
The back of the ticket is Cornell's attempt to limit or exclude liability. The state of the law now is that you (Cornell, a homeowner, a motorist) should give thought to what are potential dangers and consequences. Cornell couldn't take railings off the bridge to allow for easier snow-plowing and post signs, "Caution - hazardous pedestrian crossing." Cornell had a hockey fatality ciby billhoward - Hockey
Re: Power play percentage - how important? - 19 years ago
Indeed, there's a lot you can do with statistics, although for hockey and even more for soccer, there's less than you can do for baseball, football, or golf, where there are individual plays and situations. For the goalie you could break out stats for man-down goals vs. even-up. Maybe you could compare how the goalie does period by period. Or how he fares when he makes fewer than 15 saves inby billhoward - Hockey

Re: cornell v yale 6-1 - 19 years ago
That was exciting: Watching the video feed freeze on a 53" TV while playing the audio-only feed on a second system and paying a second five bucks for the audio. About the game's outcome: Maybe we're spoiled. It feels as if we fell apart, allowing two goals in the third period and two goals total, hurting the team's defensive standing overall and McKee's goals against average, now needingby billhoward - Hockey
