Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell @ Syracuse lax - Syr13-12 - 11 years ago
A tough loss, I thought if Cornell won >50% at the faceoff they would win Three concerns... first being that Cornell hasnt shown the killer instinct to put away quality teams. Up 9-6 I felt they had a chance to push the lead and they didnt get it done. AJ had at best an average game, he again struggled with shots from 25-30feet out (I think he has really improved in assisting with the clearby Cornell95 - Other Sports
Re: Kyle Dake and other dominant Cornell athletes - 11 years ago
I can see both sides to this, but am inclined to consider the 'over time' element It is one thing for you to be an All-American a couple years, or dominate the Ivy League competition But I think when you are trying to develop a short list, it sometimes takes a few years to recognize not only that an athlete was dominant for 2-3 years in college, but also see that 5years after they have left tby Cornell95 - Other Sports

a very frustrating game, continued problems at faceoff and no answer for the 10man zone ride on clears (admittedly a short turn around Tuesday game probably left them little time to prepare) AJ played a very good game I dont watch enough games to understand the application of the stall warning... but to have zero stalls called in this game cant be right My guess is the coach will have a fby Cornell95 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell - Virginia lax - 11 years ago
well could be worse UVA 6 - 5 Cornell at halftime RP with just 1 point (1g) a lot of early turnovers (at least 2 passes thrown very wide of AJ when clearing) The UVA announcing team makes me want to punch a wall at times and the officiating has been... interesting (I would still say some home field advantage being given, but there were a few that went Cornel's way in the 2nd Q )by Cornell95 - Other Sports
Re: Brown blog - 11 years ago
I have no intent to get in to a pissing match over colleges and admissions The team has a large number of players in CALS, but you cant really tell what majors they are in, and someone mentioned there are a bunch of programs there that are top notch (Dyson being one of them) The only college not represented as far as I can tell is Architecture, Art and Planning (there are ~3 players that dont hby Cornell95 - Hockey

I am willing to give AJ a few games (particularly if we keep winning) There has certainly been an issue in the past with him picking up the ball on shots from 15+ feet out That said, it is my understanding that The Dome is challenging for goalies I think after the next two games in more regular conditions, we will know a lot more about how he has improved at handling outside shooters and wheby Cornell95 - Other Sports

looks like audio/video is a bit buried in all the advertsiements try this $8 for a single event, no idea what the quality has been and it looks like you cant 'buy' it till 10minutes before broadcast begins (I am preparing for the inevitable server crash when a dozen Cornell fans actually log on to watch an event)by Cornell95 - Hockey

Re: Hahvahd @ Cornell - 11 years ago
If you are going to watch your kid lose a few games, probably better to come to the BeanPot 1st round and consolation games That way the losing is spread out over a couple weeks and is at a neutral site. Not back to back nights (Cornell and our travel partner) and in Lynah Eastby Cornell95 - Hockey

Greater Boston area There is a strong likelihood I will be catching the game at Firefly's in Framingham Very average BBQ and draft beer list, and the bartenders are non-attentive and dont know anything about the channel packages they have But they have 4 large screens over the bar area and seem willing to put on the games if I know the channel Last week there was a live band starting up dby Cornell95 - Hockey

Dutch Elm disease indeed was the downfall of a lot of the trees that were so prominent in historic images of the campus The American Elm in particular is susceptible, I assume there is still that big Scotch Elm in the park between Day hall and the Business school. The branch structure of the american elm was a major reason why they were frequently planted along walks and roads... they have a vby Cornell95 - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: Cornell-Yale football - 12 years ago
The ACC is weak at present for football... but based on the moves so far I think they will be one of the conferences left standing and at the table when the 64 BCS really solidifies (likely Pac-10, Big 10, SEC and ACC each with 16 teams). It seems the SEC is way ahead in football right now, I dont think the ACC is that far behind the Big10 and Pac10 presently and depending on where the rest ofby Cornell95 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell-Yale football - 12 years ago
wont disagree with that Bill but if you look at the programs that are really driving the decision making in NCAA Football, most if not all of them are profit generating enterprises, even with the large amount of support required. Outside of whether this a cultural shift we want to make, I dont think the demographics are in place for Cornell to structure themselves to be balance sheet neutralby Cornell95 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell-Yale football - 12 years ago
The current state of affairs certainly is depressing It seems that change should be a priority, but if we are moving away from the several decades of the status quo, I dont know as if shifting investing the resources for a competitive I-A program is the correct direction. While I know it might upset alumni (and maybe more importantly donors) from the 1970s and earlier and former players, therby Cornell95 - Other Sports
Syracuse to the ACC - 12 years ago
I gather that SU has accepted an invitation to join the ACC Implications abound in several sports, our interest is most tightly bound to lacrosse Good or bad for Syracuse lacrosse Good for our strength of schedule assuming non-conf games don't dry up? Can the ACC handle an increase in ugly uniforms?by Cornell95 - Other Sports

That shot off the post would have been a timely goal At the X uva seems to be improving as well I would expect some fo variety in the 2nd and the big question is whether coach goes to West in goal (more to wake up D than a statement on AJ's play)by Cornell95 - Other Sports
