Re: CU vs. Denver - 11 years ago
Jim Hyla marty Article concerning this weekend. And the Big Red will of course do so without McCarron, whose controversial game disqualification handed out at the end of Saturday’s game against Denver carries an automatic one-game suspension. As mentioned before, this was his second DQ of the year, first was leaving the bench in Clarkson game, so now 2 game sit-down. I don't know if he canby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Bardreau to U.S. National Junior Team - 11 years ago
Jeff Hopkins '82 I'm watching the replay of the Canada - Russia bronze medal game and heard a reference to Parris Duffus! Something about the Canadian National team having to wear the uniforms of a local team for one of their tune-up games. I have vague recollections of hearing that story on a TSN broadcast a couple of years ago. This Democrat and Chronicle article on Cole Bardreau winningby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Sucks rival shows how not to suck - free ECAC streaming now at three - 11 years ago
JasonN95I've skimmed parts of this thread, so maybe someone has already pointed this out, but it looks like the user controls the quality setting. I'm just noticing this now as I watch the replay of the St. Lawrence game that there's a slider on the control panel right below the volume slider. I had assumed that quality would be self adjusting and optimize based on my download speed, but it looksby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Mouth @ Cornell - 11 years ago
When the team combines last weekend's intense 125-minute effort with superior execution, it will go on a long second-half winning streak.by cbuckser - Hockey

Re: Red Cast Really Sucks - 11 years ago
Kyle Rose Video quality is WAAAAAAAY better now. This is HD. Someone must have found the good video/bad video switch. (It's inside the doll next to the good/evil switch.) Crystal-clear 360p at 1400 Kbps tonight. This is RPItv-quality video.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Cornell 6 USMNTU-18 2 (FINAL) - 11 years ago
slh10 No, Craig did not play this past weekend as he was golfing with the golf team in its final tournament. I would be very surprised if he sees much ice time this season. But if the injury bug happens, you never know. Kevin Marvin McLeod played 8 games as a last-resort 8th defenseman in 2006-07. He even got power-play time on the North Country road trip. (For those who don't remember, McLeoby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Cornell Hockey on TV - 11 years ago
ursusminor FWIW, RPI-TV will be live streaming all RPI home games for free this season. That's worth at least $7 for the fans who will watch. More importantly, the gold standard in ncaa hockey streaming gets to broadcast games live again.by cbuckser - Hockey

Marty Brodeur's son, Anthony, a senior goalie, wants to play in college. Which schools interest him? "All of them," his HS coach told me.— Matt Slovin (@MattSlovin) July 9, 2012 For those who don't know, Matt Slovin is at the center of a controversy regarding OHL player poaching. He reported an anonymous source's statement that the Kitchener Rangers have offered Michigan blue-chip recruiby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: New recruit - 11 years ago
Weder Trotsky AFAIK, Hudson will be the first black player in Cornell hockey history. I was wondering about that, too. Not exactly. Damian Rocke, who holds the Cornell record for PIM-to-TOI ratio, was the last black player to suit up for the Big Red. He was a soccer player who, along with Ryan Kirwan, spent the 1996-97 season on the varsity hockey team. There have been black players onby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Milo sues UVM - 11 years ago
Dafatone I thought a decent part of Milo's transferring was that he wanted to play baseball as well, and Schafer didn't want him to. That was an inaccurate rumor or assumption.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Cornell Alumni in the Pros: June 2012 - 11 years ago
ugarteFlyers in 2010? STOP DIGGING. The Blackhawks won that series. though it took most of us a couple seconds to realize that the puck was in the Flyers' net.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Michigan game seems confirmed - 11 years ago
Michigan's rivals.com site is reporting it, too. That article notes that the contract still hasn't been signed. But all indications over the last four months point toward this game being played in Madison Square Garden. It's great that Cornell can take advantage of the obsolescence of the College Hockey Showcase. For many years, Michigan (and Michigan State) played Minnesota and Wisconsinby cbuckser - Hockey

Kris Mayotte is leaving Cornell to become an assistant coach at St. Lawrence. And, yet again, Cornell has no goalie coach.by cbuckser - Hockey

cbuckser flyersgolf Lets hope Gavin Stoick can get Seth Jones from that hockey hotbed of Plano, Texas to take a look at Cornell Don't hold your breath. As college hockey fans, we'd be lucky if Seth Jones takes a single ncaa hockey shift. To follow up, the Portland Winterhawks (WHL) will announce its signing of Jones at 5 pm EDT today. I expect he'll play only one year in the WHL. He's very closby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Full Shields closer to being eliminated - 12 years ago
Jim Hyla I'd don't understand how the full sheild impairs peripheral vision, however. I have never played ice hockey without a cage, and I am happy to have my teeth, jaw, nose, and facial bones intact. I think it doesn't take very long to get used to wearing a birdcage or full shield. I am highly skeptical that moving from cages to 3/4 shields would reduce injuries. I have not perceivby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Final Central Scouting Rankings for 2012 Draft - 12 years ago
Luke 05 adamw FYI - it's not really a prediction to go in the 3rd round - since the numerical ranking only reflects North American skaters. <Embeded Don Cherry video praising players from Quebec and Ontario> Quebec?by cbuckser - Hockey

Re: 2012-13 Schedule - 12 years ago
Aaron M. GriffinExpectations were exceedingly high my senior year (notwithstanding the horrible Bemidji State loss in the 2009 NCAA Regional Final). The 2010 NCAA Regional Semifinal loss to UNH epitomizes falling short of expectations. So, it seems to follow the Schaferian trend to which Jim and you allude. Schafer must think that this team is capable of something special next season. And he'sby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: 2012-13 Schedule - 12 years ago
Jim Hyla French Rage Tom Lento It might be that top teams are more willing to play Cornell if they expect the team to be good, but it does seem like Schafer loads up the NC slate in seasons where expectations are higher for Cornell. I can't imagine that's easy to do, so if this is by design good for him. Yeah that's what I want to know, is it just good coincidence or is it planned that the ourby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: 2012-13 Schedule - 12 years ago
Aaron M. GriffinI find it interesting that no one on here as noted the effect that losing Casey Jones might have on Cornell recruiting. Who has replaced him in his role as the primary recruiter at Cornell? Ben Syer is the primary recruiter, and he has done well so far. He was a highly regarded recruiter at Quinnipiac before Mike Schafer hired him.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: 2012-13 Schedule - 12 years ago
css228 So basically we're likely to play the entire 2012 Midwest Regional next season? That's exactly what I was thinking when the NCAA Tournament field was announced. I hope Cornell and Ferris State play each other in the first round of the Florida College Classic. That would set up an NCAA Tournament rematch for Maine and Minnesota-Duluth, too.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Ferris State In Progress - 12 years ago
KeithK Trotsky It's all about what's best for Cornell, and that's why I'll be rooting hard for Union. When the neighborhood improves, your property value goes up. Exactly. I should add that I've had very positive interactions with #UnionHockey fans in the Twitterverse. We were rooting hard for each other's schools last weekend.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: NCAA Regional Comprehensive TV Schedule - 12 years ago
ESPNU should be easier to find on the home tv than the regional sports networks. Hopefully, people won't be at the mercy of hockey-hating bartenders. Having ESPN3 as a backup is great for those of us who have access to it. I remember most of the first period of the 2005 first-round game against Ohio State was radio only for fans not in Minneapolis because Harvard didn't have the good mannersby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Harvard 6 Cornell 1 ECAC post-game - attendance - 12 years ago
adamw I know it's not a central location, per se ... but this was my main argument in favor of Lake Placid, and I wrote about it a lot when they moved to Albany. And JTW alluded to this as well, that Lake Placid may be the only actual "destination" that has any marketability. If you're not going to be the best, and you're not going to compete in a major city - then why not take advanby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Harvard 6 Cornell 1 ECAC post-game (post-mortem?) - 12 years ago
Dafatone Kyle Rose dbilmeswhen it showed us with 5 shots on goal and Harvard with 4 goals. That's not a winning combination! I am reminded of the Wayne Gretzky quote, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." Too much dicking around with the puck looking for the perfect shot; not enough throwing it on net and working for good things on rebounds. To be fair, every time we did just tby cbuckser - Hockey

Rita The WCHA tourney "finals" gets underway this afternoon with Michigan Tech v. Denver at 3 pm EDT followed by St. Cloud State v. N. Dakota at 8 pm. The first game could have significant ramifications to Cornell's PWR. If Michigan Tech beats Denver & Cornell goes 1-1 this weekend, Denver & Cornell will have very close RPIs. Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 12 years ago
Friday's ECAC semifinal will mark Harvard and Cornell's 11th ECAC Tournament encounter in the 17 years of the Schafer Era, Harvard won three of them (2002, 2006, & 2008). Cornell prevailed in the other seven (1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, & 2010).by cbuckser - Hockey
