Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: 2007 update - 21 years ago
There are still several months for the coaches to snag another couple of defensemen for the class of 2007. I think it would be safe to guess that recruiting defensemen is extraordinarily high on the priority list.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: LeNeveu and World Juniors - 21 years ago
The teams that play for the bronze and gold medal play on January 5. The other six teams finish on January 4. After the tournament ends, it's up to the player, plus the available travel arrangements, to determine how quickly to return to his college team. I remember that a few years ago a BU player (Tom Poti?) pulled an all nighter to play for BU merely hours after playing in the WJC in Europeby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: WJC on tv - 21 years ago
YES will televise the USA's playoff games. There will be audio broadcasts of all of the USA's games on usahockey.com. * * * Source: Listen in to all the action from the U.S. games at the World Junior Championship right here at USAHockey.com! WJC on tv - 21 years ago
TSN will broadcast all of Team Canada's games. I am trying to figure out how I can watch the games in Northern California. If I can acquire that information (big dish coordinates?), I will post it. Likewise, if somebody else learns how to get a satellite feed in the US (other than by watching near the Canadian border), I would appreciate having that information. Thank you.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: two days down, one to go - 21 years ago
Thanks, Arthur. I had completely forgotten about Hughes's WJC appearance. I think the Cornell hockey media guide should include a list of Cornellians who have played at the World Junior Championship.by cbuckser - Hockey
International Games - 21 years ago
Every four years (approx.), a college hockey team can play games outside the USA without having the games count against NCAA, ECAC, or Ivy game-quantity limits. For example, Princeton plays four exhibition games in England this week. In 1994-95, Cornell participated in the Cross/Border Challenge in Toronto. In 1997-98, Cornell competed in the Guelph Tournament. Does anyone know if Cornell isby cbuckser - Hockey
two days down, one to go - 21 years ago
All three remaining goaltenders survived this morning's cuts. If he makes the team, Dave LeNeveu will be the first Cornellian to earn a roster spot at the WJC since Kent Manderville played for Canada in 1989-90 & 1990-91, if I recall correctly.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: First round of cuts... - 21 years ago
Wow, beating out Cam Ward was an impressive task. For what it's worth, John Davidson two weeks ago effusively praised Ward, last season's Hurricanes' first-round pick, after watching him play a recent game for Red Deer.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: LeNeveu and World Juniors - 21 years ago
True, John. Although I realized Jordan's comments were tounge in cheek, I figured I might as well take advantage of one of the very few insights I have regarding the academic lives of student athletes. Plus, I wanted to re-live game 5 of the 1996 world series.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: LeNeveu and World Juniors - 21 years ago
I have a feeling Lenny will be busy taking exams during early to mid January. While I was in law school, I spent a semester as a teaching assistant and proctored a makeup midterm exam the night of game 5 of the 1996 World Series. Besides listening to the 1-0 Yankee victory, what I remember most of proctoring the exam was that the overwhelming majority of the students taking the make-up test wby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Question about the Everblades tournament - 21 years ago
I don't have the answer, but I'll ask another question: Is Cornell the nominal home team throughout the tournament? It would be nice to have the last line change.by cbuckser - Hockey
Will the Cornell vs. BU series become an annual tradition? - 21 years ago
If I recall correctly, this weekend's games comprise the second half of a two-year home-and-home series with BU. Has anyone heard if the contract to play BU will be renewed? It would be wonderful if we could play BU every year.by cbuckser - Hockey

Re: How We Stack Up Against Harvard/Brown - 21 years ago
It will be interesting to see if Cornell changes its forechecking strategy for tonight's game. Last March, after Harvard defensemen in their defensive zone passed the puck, the Cornell forecheckers quickly turned around rather than finish their checks. That strategy avoided having Cornell forecheckers get out of position against a fast team, but it sacrificed an opportunity to physically wear dby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: How We Stack Up Against Harvard/Brown - 21 years ago
If the Harvard game is wide open, that would play into Harvard's hands. Hopefully, Cornell will control the tempo. Will Harvard roll four lines tomorrow? In the ECAC Championship in Lake Placid, Harvard's fourth line played for only one shift that lasted for about twelve seconds.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: 8 Goal Scorers - 21 years ago
The eight who have lit the lamp tonight are Jeremy Downs, Greg Hornby, Mark McRae, Stephen Bâby (PP), Daniel Pegoraro, Matt McRae, Sam Paolini (PP), and Cam Abbott.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Vermont 11/15/02*updates* 8-0 Cornell 3rdP - 21 years ago
Paul Varteressian's two assists tonight were his first points of the season. Daniel Pegoraro's goal and assist and Matt Moulson's assist were the first points of their respective college careers.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Vermont 11/15/02*updates* 8-0 Cornell 3rdP - 21 years ago
Cam got the 8th goal. Chris is scratched.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Vermont 11/15/02 - updates - 6-0 Cornell 2nd Period - 21 years ago
From what I can tell, Cornell's lines tonight are: Matt Moulson-Ryan Vesce-Stephen Bâby Sam Paolini-Matt McRae-Shane Hynes Shane Palahicky-Daniel Pegoraro-Mike Knoepfli Cam Abbott-Paul Varteressian-Greg Hornby The defense pairings are: Jeremy Downs-Doug Murray Ben Wallace-Mark McRae Travis Bell-Charlie Cookby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Vermont 11/15/02 - updates - 5-0 Cornell 1stP - 21 years ago
Daniel Pegoraro got his first NCAA goal for the fifth Big Red goal. Vermont needs some of that white out to erase the memories of tonight's game.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: NEW - 21 years ago
A large drawback of our common-law legal tradition is that it leaves a lot of gray areas for which there is no clear answer. You can argue that HA+RVA+RD is a fair-use parody and you'll be able to site some legal precedents in your favor. Harvard will argue that printing HA+RVA+RD violates its trademark and will cite precedents in its favor. Only litigation or an out-of-court settlement will pby cbuckser - Hockey

I'll boldly state on this forum that I agree with you, Big Red Apple.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Yale/Princeton thoughts - 21 years ago
For those who watched tonight's game: Did we dress and play seven defensemen and eleven forwards? As Al mentioned, Travis Bell was listed as the fourth-line center on the box score on the cornellbigred.oscn.com site. Was this merely a quirk of the box score software assuming teams dress the standard six defensemen and twelve forwards?by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Yale v. Cornell 11.8.02 - 21 years ago
Isn't there a limit on the number of players who can travel with the team? I thought that some of the suspended four will have to stay in New Haven in order to dress 18 skaters in tonight's game. But, the Yale Daily News and the New Haven Register report that the four players will play at Colgate. Will Yale dress fewer than 18 skaters tonight? (Cornell dressed only 16 skaters at St. Lawrenceby cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Score updates - Cornell @ Ohio St. - 21 years ago
Tonight's scratches: Jan Pajerski, Jon Gleed, Cam Abbott, Mike Iggulden, Matt Moulson, and Scott Krahn.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: Score updates - Cornell @ Ohio St. - 21 years ago
I've heard Wallace's name tonight. So, Gleed is scratched. At forward, I've heard the following ten names: Hynes, Vesce, Bâby, Matt McRae, Hornby, Palahicky, Chris Abbott, Hughes, Paolini, and Varteressian. I doubt Paul Varteressian played on the first power-play unit. The OSU announcer probably confused his #9 with Vesce's #8. Yes, Pajerski was a defenseman last year.by cbuckser - Hockey

Exhibition DQ's - 21 years ago
Unless the rule has recently changed (which I doubt), DQs in exhibition games carry over into the regular season. Three years ago, David Francis got DQ'd in the exhibition game against Western Ontario and had to sit out the season opener at RPI.by cbuckser - Hockey
Re: InsideCollegeHockey.com - 21 years ago
After initially being perplexed at the comment about Doug Murray, I more charitably interpreted "best skater" to mean best non-goaltender, rather than most proficient power skater.by cbuckser - Hockey
