Re: two days down, one to go - 21 years ago
If he makes the team, Dave LeNeveu will be the first Cornellian to earn a roster spot at the WJC since Kent Manderville played for Canada in 1989-90 & 1990-91, if I recall correctly. Ryan Hughes played for Canada in the 1991-92 tournament.by ACM - Hockey
Re: Thoughts on CU-UWM - 21 years ago
Ben Wallace impressed a number of us with his solid play in the defensive end, and topped the weekend off with his first career goal to tie the Saturday game at 2. After not getting a whole lot of playing time his first two years, Wallace appears to have developed into a solid defender. Let's get some facts straight here, OK? Ben Wallace played in 32 of 33 games as a freshman in 2000-01, mosby ACM - Hockey

Actually, Ken and I did stand during our student days -- at the top of Section C, on the red line, with our twin cowbells, in the row directly in front of the pressbox, seats for which we would routinely get to the rink and stand in the general admission line for two hours or more before the game. But we were about the only ones who stood, and we didn't block anyone's view of the game.by ACM - Hockey

For those who were wondering (I hope there's at least one) ... Al got the answer to the assistant coach question. Nobody's answered the goalie number question yet.by ACM - Hockey
Re: The Red and White Game - 21 years ago
George Swan was the one sitting next to the assistant coach. Cornell didn't get an assistant coach until 1976, so that couldn't be who Swan was sitting next to. Which brings us to the next trivia question: Who was Cornell's first assistant coach? And what school did he graduate from?by ACM - Hockey

"Non-traditional" goalie numbers that I can recall off the top of my head (there may be others, I'm too lazy to research it right now): 28 - Corrie D'Alessio 29 - Jim Crozier 39 - Eddy Skazyk. For many years (Al, Jim and Ken will remember this), the only number worn by goalies at Cornell was #1. Both the starter and the backup wore it. Trivia question: who was the first Cornellby ACM - Hockey

Re: We were hockey players once, and young - 21 years ago
Here's the Ithaca Journal's report on the game (written by Jerry Langdon, dateline Boston, Mass.): "Who is number one in eastern college hockey? The question wasn't settled here Friday night as unbeaten Cornell and Boston University battled through two overtime periods to a 3-3 tie before a capacity crowd of 5,450 in the climax of a Boston Arena Christmas tournament. Greg, You can assert whatever the hell you want, but it's TWO power play opportunities. It may be three distinct periods of time in which the team plays with a manpower advantage, but it's counted as two power play opportunities. See the NCAA ice hockey statistics manual at and read Section 8, Article 5. (I realize the manual contains its share of idiocy, but the interpretation given inby ACM - Hockey
Re: Cornell Hockey Assn. Banquet and Awards - 22 years ago
More sloppy reporting from the Journal ... Its 25 victories were the second-highest total in program history, surpassed only by the 1969-70 team, which went 29-0 and won the program's second national championship. Which is true if you ignore the three seasons immediately prior to 1969-70, in each of which the team won 27 games. Or if you believe 25 is greater than 27. McMeekin was the onby ACM - Hockey
